I agree drowe. This makes two hears in a row opening vs rival division opponents, I'd rather wait. Oh well.

I just need to remember that our defense it made of butter so I shouldn't get my expectations too high...

Haha, nice.

Don't worry, you and BF51 will see soon enough when Woodson picks off cutler twice. ;)

i'll take two woodson picks, and then have cutler go for 6 Tds (hopefully all of them to Forte/Olsen)... unfortunately I don't see this happening.

Really though, they scheduled us early because they knew Favre was going to the vikings. Bastards.

No worries. It won't. Hopefully this is a repeat of last year at Lambeau.

I like our chances in this game a lot. Our defense is going to confuse the Bears who are used to playing against 4-3s in the division all the time and our offense will have a very low turnover number while being able to get first downs fairly consistently.

I can't wait for our season to finally begin!

This game should be a good indication on how our season will go. We had a good preseason and advoided major injury to key players. The offense looks good and hopefully our offensive line stays heathly. The defense suprisingly looks good although I'm a little concerned with our abilty to generate sacks and I'm still a little worried about our secondary because of the switch to more zone coverage.

really?
seriously?

it's not like the bears are full of nubs who have NEVER seen a 3-4 defense. besides, from what i've seen, you run 4-2-5 nearly as much as 3-4... and if you're on a 3-4, who's covering the tight ends? yah, y'know des clark and greg olsen? if you run 4-2-5, it'll be your nickelback on greg olson most of the night.

who is your nickelback anyway?

either way, it really revolves around how good Olin Kreutz is at reading the D-Line scheme and gap coordination to determine proper blocking schemes and shifts.

Wait. Olin Kreutz is not only good but smart? OH MY.

Now, i respect dom capers... but, the first point remains true. who's going to cover olsen? i bet you you'll see olsen going to kamp's side most of the night. now, matt forte probably won't look amazing seeing as you'll have poppinga and thompson teeing off on him the entire night if you get some penetration.

Our nickelback is Tramon Williams. You knew that, though.

I don't think any of us has really seen all of what Dom has planned for the regular season with this defense( obviously). Heck, in pre season I can't remember seeing the safeties really play anything aside from basic deep coverage, they're going to play a bigger role in the defense for sure. ( bigby)

I don't mind the nickelback on olsen. Tramon is a good nickelback

You says pops and Thompson but...Don't forget Matthews, he'll likely get some action as well.

Who's going to cover Olsen? I ask you this question in response. Who's going to cover Jennings, Driver, Jones, Nelson, Lee and Finley? :)

But, you're right. I did know about Tramon... But I didn't see him behind Olsen. MAI BAD.

seriously though. Tramons... 5'11? 190? Olsen is 6'5 and 260. I'd technically call that a mismatch.

I did forget Matthews, the linebackers four are all going to get an opportunity stuffing their faces into forte's gut... y'all will probably try to toss the ball because ryan grant still sucks. and that's a good thing, because, maybe if you have 6 receivers on the field, the bears might actually be able to get some pressure :p

We should be a hell of a lot more prepared for the 2 TE offense than last year. Last year, you could line up Olsen inside and you knew what linebacker would be covering him or move him outside and you knew what safety/CB would be covering him. This year wherever you put him you're not going to know who's covering him until the play starts.

Also stop talking up Olsen like he's a Gonzalez or Gates because he is NOT the dangerous weapon you make him out to be. Pretty good player but he's not even close to a game changer.

When will he turn the corner?
The 500 some yards and 5 tds last year was just a stepping stone... i mean...

How much did gates do last year?
700 some yards and 8 tds? and he had Rivers throwing to him? Well then. I expect Olsen to at least match that this year.

Predictions. What does Rodgers toss for?

Pacific
09-12-2009, 10:57 PM
Rodgers: 22/31, 322 yards, 2 TD, INT
Cutler: 17/29 224 yards, 1 TD, INT

Packers 24
Bears 13

umphrey
09-13-2009, 03:57 PM
Rodgers: 21/32, 278 yards, 2 TD
Grant: 19 att, 64 yards, 1 RuTD, 1 rec, 7 yards, 1 fumble
Wynn: 4 att, 32 yards
Jennings: 4 rec, 56 yards, 1 TD
Driver: 5 rec, 55 yards
Finley: 2 rec, 44 yards, 1 TD

Packers win 31-17

I wouldn't be surprised to see Charles Woodson on Olsen. Especially if he is split out or in the slot. I'd put Williams on Hester, Woodson on Olsen, and Harris on whoever the hell your #2 WR is.

Well Donald Lee had 575 yards and 6 TDs in 2007, so if we're going to put Olsen in that group I guess Lee is there too.
Rodgers: 21/32, 278 yards, 2 TD
Grant: 19 att, 64 yards, 1 RuTD, 1 rec, 7 yards, 1 fumble
Wynn: 4 att, 32 yards
Jennings: 4 rec, 56 yards, 1 TD
Driver: 5 rec, 55 yards
Finley: 2 rec, 44 yards, 1 TD

Packers win 31-17
You have to explain how that 4th TD is going to happen. INT, kick return, fumble recovery? Or maybe you're predicting 3 TDs, 2 FGs, and 2 safeties.

We are playing so much better than the scoreboard says, I think

I started out not liking the play calling, but I don't really blame him now. It's hard to call plays when you have to worry that much about your RT. He had to give up a potential receiver to help Barbre or call plays that got away from that side. I'm not going to blame McCarthy because he was very limited in what he could do.

That's what I'm talking about. Hated rival gets beat in the last minute or so. A-Rod gets rid of the under four point loss curse that he was 0-7 or whatever last year. Game winning drive for game one and the old man in the secondary salts it away. Even that gunslinger looks like the Favre I remember giving away Super Bowl shots to the Gints and Iggles. Sad that a guy that tosses 4 picks is still the best QB Da Bears have had since 1985.

I'd have liked to have seen Tramon keep those picks in his hands, but I guess that's why he's a CB and not a WR... Aaron also missed DD deep, I don't like the drops, and wtf with giving up a safety, but the joy of winning is that it's all good now! Go Pack Go!

I was kind of iffy about the switch to the 3-4 but throughout the pre-season and tonight the aggressive attacking D is alot better. F Bob Sanders and his blah defense. Okay, good story...

My neighbors have Packer season tickets. The guy is a bit on the old side, and he can't make it to as many games as he used to. He sells off his tickets at times. I bought the pair from him for tonight's opener.

Bears v Packers, Sunday night, prime-time, perfect weather... NO WAY AM I MISSING THIS. Well, I changed my mind. WHAT?!

Instead of going to Lambeau field and witnessing one of the best Bears Pack finishes since I've been alive (1987), I gave (yes gave) the tickets to my friend who is home on leave from the Air Force and about to be deployed oversees next week.

So I drove across WI, about 4 hours from college, to watch the game at home with my pops feeling completely depressed I even considered giving up Packer tickets. That was until....

I got a call from my buddy right after the Al Harris INT to end the game. It was all worth it at that moment. I answered the phone and couldn't hear a single coherent word except for a massive amount of cheering from the Lambeau fans and my (tough guy) friend screaming in a high pitched voice that sounded like my 9 year old sister. Completely worth it.

I got to enjoy a win, while someone who will be far away fighting for our country in just a few days was able to soak up his first ever Packer game with his father.

Go Pack!

I answered the phone and couldn't hear a single coherent word except for a massive amount of cheering from the Labeau fans and my (tough guy) friend screaming in a high pitched voice that sounded like my 9 year old sister. Completely worth it.

I got to enjoy a win, while someone who will be far away fighting for our country in just a few days was able to soak up his first ever Packer game with his father.

Go Pack!

Well done, sir. Well done.

I'm not totally innocent..I was able to wrestle the Seattle home game tickets in December from the neighbor as well. It's not the bears on a Sunday night, but a game in Lambeau in December, is well a game in Lambeau in December! Win-win.

But thanks guys.

Great win. This game was huge.

The Good:

-The defense. This is far to broad, but, just overall, the defense looked great. with the exception of the TD pass to Hester, everyone was just always where they were supposed to be. I saw multiple players constantly swarming around the ball..same way it looks when the Steelers and Ravens play D.
-Cullen Jenkins was just great. This might be a bold thing to say and there's no way to back it up...but, i'm gonna say it. If Cullen Jenkins didn't get hurt last year, the Packers would've made the playoffs.
-Didn't Matt Forte used to play for the Bears?

-Special teams. overshadowed by the last minute drama and the play of the defense, but, the coverage units played really well. seems ever week last year, the opposing team would have a short field due to bad coverage at least once. and, heads up play be Swain wrapping up Wolfe on the fake punt. he earned his roster spot if he does nothing else all year.

-Greg Jennings. he's a beast wrapped in a stud, covered with freak sauce.

The Bad
-Allen Barbre. holy crap. he looked lost. I'm not gonna call for his head yet. maybe Oguqlwrng[oq34rn just had a really good game. but, one more chance.

-Passing game-might be due to the aforementioned Allen Barbre, but, if the offense is gonna live up to the hype, we need to get the #3 and #4 WRs involved..as well as our young TE. but, Nelson, Jones and Finley were almost invisible. might be just because Rodgers never had time to go through the progressions, but it seems like when the rush is coming like that, a dump off to a TE or RB should happen more.

But, really. no matter how it happened, getting a division win to start the year is huge. putting an end to all the Jay Cutler hype was pretty fun too. Really can't wait to see what happens to the D-Line when Raji is a part of it.

And, the best part about this game, was it perfectly fit into the template of almost every game the Packers lost in 2008. leading late, in a back and forth game, but a late score happens and our offense falters at the wrong time. not this time though. good, back and forth game....with a late score to give the Bears a lead. And, now, Rodgers took the team down and scored.

Yep!!!

Can someone answer me why I didn't see Nick Barnett do anything last night even though he was announced in the starting lineup? Was it his injury?

I'v been saying it since last season before he went down. He's the overall best defensive lineman and second best defensive player, giving Woodson a run for his money.

that game went the complete opposite direction i thought.

Although having des clark pretty much give up was NOT helpful.

Of course it's only week one, but that one sucks for the Bears big time. Not only a loss to the rival divisional Packers Tough to come Back vs the steelers after losing two starters. One for the season. If they don't turn around quickly it may become to two horse race for the division.

I'd agree with that. His absence last season proved how important he is, and he might've been the MVP of last night's game.

I'm eating some delicious crow when it comes to the defense. Once the offense starts clicking, this team should be scary. The game should not have been that close yesterday, but the good news is that we won that game, unlike last season's team would have.

I was really impressed with how Chillar looked last night also. He seemed to make the most of his playing time and was the most memorable LB of the night. Hopping over that guy to get the sack was unbelievable.
