DUCKETT TO DETROIT

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that running back T.J. Duckett has agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions.

Duckett will sign a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Lions.

The maneuver gives the Lions three starting-caliber tailbacks -- Duckett, Tatum Bell, and Kevin Jones. We've previously heard that Bell, who was acquired recently from the Broncos as part of the Dre' Bly trade, is a candidate to be traded again.

Duckett did the deal with Detroit after visiting the Seahawks.

Yes, I KNOW it's from PFT, but it was "reported from Adam Schefter of NFL Network".

(Update: It's official. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2793638.)

I'm glad this happened.

(Side note: they also re-signed Aveion Cason... what the HELL will the roster look like this year?!)

I think it is a pretty good move... but the lions still suck ;)

Goodbye Bryson and Calhoun . . . (one of you may go on IR though).

Does this rule the Chris Brown signing out? God I hope so.

Yes, I think it's safe to rule out Brown. And Adrian Peterson.

It's a good signing. 1 year for 1.5 mil is pretty nice (if this is in fact true)

I like Duckett a lot just couldn't find a spot behind Portis, Betts, and Rock but he is a still a solid player but he really needs to loose weight. From what he showed on the skins he doesn't have the explosion to break the run, he is rather slow, runs rather upright and isn't really good in the redzone, but if he could be rejuvenated in Detroit so I am pulling for him, but IMO he isn't starting material anymore.

Detroit will be a good fit for him then. We're looking for that 3rd and 2 back... the short-yard specialist. We've got the speed... now we've got the power.

Lets hope Marinelli works him into top shape.

I like the fact that it's a one-year deal. Guys always seem to play better when it's a contract year. I'm gonnna say Bryson and Calhoun both start on the PUP list and go IR at week 9 or whatever the rule is. I'd like a mulligan on the Calhoun pick.

i would think this means that calhoun and jones' rehabs arent going as good as they should be.

i think this is a great signing for you guys though, thunder and lightning with bell and duckett.

I, to be honest, think it's an upgrade over just KJones.

I love Duckett, always have. Bell and Duckett would be great. Bell getting about 1000-1200 yards 5-8 tds, Duckett 400 yds 4-6 tds. if things fall right rushing wise.

Lets hope we sign one of the WRs.

I think the line's gonna have to come together before we have much of a running attack. Aside from LT and C, it's a total crapshoot as to who could start.
LG: Foster/Rookie/Sapia
RG: Woody/Foster/Davis
RT: Tucker/Scott/ ?J. Thomas?

And don't expect it to get fixed in the draft. All I've heard is that Millen isn't that concerned with it.

completely disagree if KJ's rehab wasnt going well they wouldnt make the positive reports theyd actually say he wasn't healthy and it wasnt going well to add the chance that they may take AD. There would be no reason for them to say it was going great if it really wasn't

Also in no way is bell or duckett an upgrade to KJ put KJ in denver and he'd tear it up he just never had a line and rarely had a positive passing attack to take some attention from him

I wonder how he did so well in his rookie season.

If Tucker starts over Scott I will hunt down Rod Marinelli.

And with this move, I'd expect Bryson to move to FB and Calhoun to be put on IR. Or Tatum Bell to be traded. Something of that sort.

nice signing that allows them to be aggressive in moving Tatum Bell knowing that there is a potential backup on hand already.

I think we'll see Tatum Bell moved on Draft Day.

Why would they move Bell. He is a classic Martz RB as long as he is a decent pass receiver. Jones is done for the year and may never be the same player he was before his injury. Football's a tough game and Jones just got unlucky.
Duckett isn't a Marz type RB except in short yardage situations, so if we trade Bell, we won't have a starting RB unless Calhoun is the guy.
Neither guy is going to rip the league apart, they are solid stopgap measures until it is finally known whether or not Jones can return and play well in 2008.

We aren't saying we agree with the move, but there are rumors everywhere that he is gonna be traded . . . to the Giants, to the Packers, etc.

so i gotta ask, with the lions in a potential 8-8 or better, what are the outside odds at Sanders taking a gander back, and playing 1-2 more years? since the reason he left was cause of no winning attitude, hes gotta be asking himself about this marinelli rush, dontcha think?
