Surprising to see Ogletree on the inactive list.

I agree we should dominate.

Surprising to see Ogletree on the inactive list.

With 3 TEs on the gameday roster...it just doesn't make any sense. Baring 2 injuries he wouldn't have seen the field. I don't expect it to change throughout the year.

M.O.T.H.

I'd rather dress a 5th WR in a receiving core with three guys just off of injury, than a 3rd QB who is still banged up.

The thing that confuses me is that the DL will blow them off the line...but then we open up cutback lanes and don't make tackles in the holes...

Then our DL will get pushed back the next play....we better bring up a 8th man...because we need it.

Wow, We look absolutely confused on offense and our defense cant stop my 1a football team. I don't know how we aren't down 21-6 right now. To top it off Romo can't hit a receiver in the chest for anything.

Nice. Nifty moves by Austin

LonghornsLegend
09-13-2009, 01:23 PM
Did anyone else just know we were going to score there? When we go to the 2 minute offense or hurry up before the half we always seem to move the ball better then we have the past 2 quarters combined. The hurry up needs to be brought into the game before that point.

Nice move by Miles, but their still running right at us.

M.O.T.H.

Everything was bad. Rush defense was horrible. 7.5 yards per carry for Williams and 5.2 yards per carry for Ward. We gave up over 100 yards rushing in the 1st half, I believe. Pass rush was pretty poor...Ware was held in check all game long. Leftwich was hitting wide open receivers all day...especially down the middle of the field. The defense played a horrible game. We only had 12 more net yards than they did. And we had 462. :0

edit...Newman had 9 tackles...not a good sign, either.

Glad we won despite the terrible defense then. That said, Tampa has a very good OL. So give them credit for that. Besides, this has been talked about ad nauseum but I really don't think stuffing the run will be a forte of ours as long as Ratliff is playing NT anyways.

Were Newman's tackles all on Wrs? That would be terrible.

If we bring that defense to Arlington next week we lose 68-24. If we played a better team today we lose by 21. Emmitt might not be that far off really.

For those that only see the highlights and get hard ons for the big plays on offense I'd tap the brakes on that as they were mostly the result of horrible busted coverage by Tampa's seconday specifically Sabby.

The wierd thing is...we were in positions to make plays all day against the run...we just didn't. We didn't tackle or fill in the hole...and thats what cost us....only a couple of runs were truly plays where we were out of position or got out played.

The scary thing was our pass defense. I don't remember a single incompletion that our corners caused. That is really scary.

Pass rush wise...we had one...we were just a half step late....Leftwich was on his back most of the game...we just didn't have the coverage to get it done.

Jenkins looked awful today. I hope that was just nerves...because he thought he had inside help all day and didn't.

Haha yeah the rest of the team was really good. Our Pass D let us down big time in this game. If we hadn't given up at least 2/3 big TD plays it would have been interesting to see how the game played out.

True Dat. I'm trying not to be mr overreact to every flaw but Jenkins and the entire secondary basically looked terrible and the pass rash just wasn't there most of the time. Zero sacks and Zero interceptions against Fat Albert can't be a good sign for future success.

Well, I'll take a win any way I can get it, just as long as were working to change some of the mistakes week to week and they aren't reoccuring.

Special Teams plays overall was a very big boost in how this game went, touchbacks, made FG's, blocked FG's, long punts, I would like to see us carry that week to week. We won't make it far if we keep letting teams run right at us, it's been a problem for some time now. Still sometimes you just need to do enough to win, the Steelers look ugly in plenty of wins, I just want to see an improvement up front.

I don't know what was up with Tony's accuracy early on either, glad it changed, but had he been hitting some of those early throws we could of got comfortable and some momentum alot more early. Leftwich wasn't the only one who missed out on a couple TD's.

Raheem is going to have the Bucs playing at a high level all year I believe, their a tough team and will play most everyone tough this year, but their was some obvious confusion in the secondary, but SOME of that should be credited to Garrett mixing things up and moving Martellus around.

I know you're trying to be cool and everything, but being down 3 TDs with 3 minutes to go does not qualify as being close, no matter how you spin it. I was impressed with the Bucs, especially the road graders you have up front (Davin Joseph: best RG in the NFL?), but the score was not an accident. The Cowboys made quite a few more plays than you did, and thus we were in a position to coast at the end of the game. You guys showed a lot of moxie and were much better than expected, but let's not go overboard here.

ANyone know the condition of Sensabaugh

He's A-OK. He'll start next week.

I'm surprised that the dmn blog didnt pick up on the fact that Romo needs to get his ankle x-rayed tomorrow. But I'd imagine it's nothing serious. He hurt it pretty early in the 3rd and ended the game real strong despite limping a bit.

M.O.T.H.
09-13-2009, 08:42 PM
As for the defense...I saw a lof tired faces early. I'm hoping this performance was just a combination of things. The crazy humidty, opening day gitters, not exactly ready for that full contact, whatever. As Thule said, we were in position to make plays. Carnel Williams reversed field a few times on us. :/ Ratliff was blowing up plays only for Caddy to break 3 or 4 tackles to pick up 10+. The pre snap confusion was pretty alarming but obviously fixable but, Leftwich was calling plays before our guys were even set on several occassions. We didnt know what was going on. Could have been under prepared or even over prepared and that was causing the confusion. You'd expect this to get ironed out and hopefully, quickly.

Ware is a missing person, just like he was in preseason...Spencer was in there a lot along with Spears of all people. Brooking and Sensabaugh made a lot of plays. Jenkins showed flashes of idiocy and greatness. But it was a lot more bad than good. He still has a whole lot to learn but the talent is there. I do give credit to Bucs o-line but, there is no way I thought we'd go without a sack in this one. The pass rush wasnt there early and got a little more lively later w/ Bowen and Hatcher getting in a few times but as Thule said, a step late. I never thought we'd lose the game for a second but, this isnt the start on defense I imagined. We have a legitimate reason to worry going into next week until they show something different.

How did Aqib Talib look?

herniateddisc
09-14-2009, 07:57 AM
That was as bad a win that I could imagine. Bucs killed us everywhere except the scoreboard. More Yards, More first Downs, etc.

Lots of repeating but here is what I saw....

1) God awful GAP control by the Front 7 and mediocre rush
2) Up-n-down play by our OL
3) Wild QB play
4) Crappy secondary play by the Bucs
5) Martellus being confused

But the good news .....

1) Roy showed me what I like in him more than TO. The hands and body to pick up ballz in traffic get first downs.
2) Romo spreading the ball
3) Safety play was better IMHO -- at least closer to the ball to prevent RAC

We need to improve fast, GMen will get 300 yards rushing if we play like that.

Win is a win however.

Ware had a mild concussion on the third defensive play of the game but only missed a few plays. Hopefully that explains why he kept taking an outside rush and getting pushed by Fat Albert.

I thought Spencer had a nice game, he looked active out there, and got a few shots in on Leftwitch. We need him and Ware to be in top form next week, so we can rattle and rough up Eli a bit.

Burns336
09-14-2009, 09:24 AM
Our defense was pathetic. Couldn't even notch 1 sack against statue-esque Leftwhich and got the ball rammed right down our throats....

What was the biggest problem last year? I mean the defining game for our season was the Ravens ripping off 2 huge runs right into the middle of our D. Nothing has changed.

If Wade doesn't get the defense fixed, it will be a long season.

Again, watch our PPG. Last year it was in the bottom half of the league despite having the most sacks. We gave up 21 to scrubs last night.

Otherwise, solid victory. Good performance on offense. Barber looks to be rejuvenated.

And for kicks, Bradie James looked like ****. Last year was probably an aberration. Even more reason to draft Maualuga. Bradie has the worst tackling form ever and missed runners coming through his gap over and over and over again.

Macarthur
09-14-2009, 10:19 AM
I want to emphasize what D-Unit said earlier. TB has a young, big, physical OL, and a couple of good RBs. I think they will move the ball on folks all season long.

I'm not saying we have nothing to worry about, but I think that's one of the better OLs we will see all season.

M.O.T.H.
09-14-2009, 10:31 AM
I dont care how good your o-line is, no one should run on us like that. Caddy was averaging 7 yards a pop and Ward 5. It was really bad.

As for Bradie, Burns. He did have a bad game but, no one else looked that good either. I think we'll be fine but, I'm def. a little worried about the defense for this next week. But, there are several reasons why our defense could have layed an egg on us. I still cant believe how much confusion there was all game long...but atleast that's something that can be fixed. Once we get these guys playing fast and with some confidence they should be in for a great year...I hope. :) But really, I do expect things to click sooner than later for the defense. Let's hope that comes as early as next week, otherwise we may give up 200 yards rushing.

LonghornsLegend
09-14-2009, 11:29 AM
How about our kicking specialist? Hot damn, let's not forget to shout them out, if we get that type of play from all 3 all year then we will have a huge advantage over what we traditionally are used to.

Folk - Wiped away the rust from the pre-season and went back to being automatic again. He can even save his leg on KO's this time.

Buehler - 3 Touchbacks vs 0 last year, considering how many big KO returns we gave last year I'll take starting at the 20 any time, if he can boot a few into the end zone we'll be much better for it.

Matt ******* McBriar - Damn I'm glad to have him back there, I was worried his foot wouldn't give him the same strength but he looks as good ever. I'm loving what I saw from these three guys who all relate to special teams.

M.O.T.H.
09-14-2009, 11:36 AM
Sure would love to combine Folk and Buehler. But as long as Buehler keeps doing what he did, it's a roster spot put to good use, imo.

Even when he didnt get touchbacks, the others were high. One of his kicks in particular seriously stayed up there for days, it may have been the last one of the game for him.

Anyone notice Tony throw the ball away that one time? haha. A rare sight but nice to see...even though it was nearly catchable lol. But it was a throw away out of bounds. The guys a playmaker, and gets a little impatient, we saw that a few times yesterday as well. Trying to force two or three passes. But he looks like he's going to be a little more cautious with the ball. We all saw him protecting the ball well in preseason. Using two hands when scrambling and holding the ball a bit higher. We dont want him to change completely, he's the best improvising Qb in the league but, being a little more cautious will help him a great deal. He's certainly still going to take those shots sometimes, though and rightfully so.

First of all, I believe the Bucs will be a top 5 rushing team this season. With their combination of a great OL, a trio of vicious runners (quick tangent: the Cadillac I saw yesterday was the same one that opened his career with 4 straight 100 yards rushing games; who knows if he can stay healthy, but he was running hard and looking fast yesterday), and a head coach who desperately wants his team indentity to be one of the smash mouth, pound-the-rock variety. I was extremely impressed with them.

Now, does that in any way excuse the Cowboys for allowing that ridiculous amount of yards (especially in the first half)? No, it doesn't.

I've been trying to tell anyone who would listen through this whole off-season that our concerns are not about a #1 (or 2,3,4) WR, our passing game, our secondary or anything like that. They are, in order, 1) depth, 2) interior run D, and 3) ability to cause TOs.

Hmmm, isn't that interesting that each reared its ugly head yesterday? Our lack of quality depth at NT and in our LB corps really hurt when our 1st teamers started sucking wind and getting worn down by the humidity and the surprisingly game TB squad.

Our lack of anchoring ability in the middle was exploited time and time again.

And we had zero turnovers. How many times did we see a ball bounce off of someone's hands and go careening into the back part of our secondary? I can count at least 4. Yet never was there someone who was either a) in position or b) heady enough to catch the damn thing when he was.

It also didn't help that on the one play where we finally force Leftwich into throwing up for grabs like the old childhood game of Flies Up, and we actually make the grab, they call a pathetic illegal contact foul that nullifies it.

All in all, I will say that the D has got to improve, but that it wasn't quite as bad as the stat sheet looked (mainly relative to the passing D, which did a pretty solid job) and I think its something that can be addressed with the personnel we have in house.

:( I didn't have the Cowboys game on TV here, but I did have the Cincy/Den game... All I can say is that Maualuga looked like a beast out there. ...just looked it up on my iphone... ESPN says he finished with 8 tackles... in his first game. wow. I dream Jason Williams can have 1 day like that this year.

Turns out that our STs unit can be fixed by 1 guy. :)

Some people were trying to tell me that we needed all 12 picks in order to fix depth and fix STs. ermmmmm...

I dont care how good your o-line is, no one should run on us like that. Caddy was averaging 7 yards a pop and Ward 5. It was really bad.

I'm not saying we don't have work to do. I just think the Bucs running game will be better than people are giving it credit for.

Did it also tell you that Roy led their team with 9 tackles? Want him back?;)

Actually, I bet all his tackles were in the deep secondary. lol. I never want that.haha.

I don't recall who was on coverage, but I wouldn't doubt if he was the one out of position to tackle Stokley on that last second TD. haha.

It was Roy Williams indeed. He went for the big hit instead of doing his job.

It'll be okay. Just tell yourself that they were never in position to draft him in the first place, and the pain will cease to exist. ;)

I am. I thought I did. ...but Burns keeps reminding me. lol. I have high hopes for Jason Williams. Hopefully he becomes the star I hope he can become.

Yall are giving waaaaayyyy too much credit to Tampa Bay's offense. Lets be real here, they are a bottom 10 team in the league. Teams will load the box and force leftwitch to throw and to be honest I doubt its his job by the mid way point. We looked horrible on defense. I doubt Tampa even gets 100 yards rushing next week. But Cadillac did look great now that he is healthy. I just cant really judge because the bucs played such a horrible run defense.

Huh? What makes you say that? The only consistent thing being said is how bad our defense looked against their running attack. You're either joking, are a joke or you're trying to really emphasizing what's already been said. That was a really "greasy" post. lol. :P

Our offense is not in the bottom 10 of the league... Our running game is going to be one of the best this season thanks to our good trio of RB's and great OL play.
