They have had some of the best live shows that i have ever seen. Partially because their bassist is insane and usually ends up naked in the end. (not that i'm into that sort of thing; its just weird/funny)

but you didn't exist in said years of 'classic rock'.

it'd be like growing up in the 60's and the only thing you listen to for the last 45 years was the beatles. of which i know people who are like that. frustrates the hell out of me.

That's true. I just tend to stick to a few genres for the most part. I really only like bluegrass, classic rock, a few jam bands and classical music. Sometimes I wish I'd expand, but other types just don't appeal to me one bit.

Hmmm... Mine will be different because of my love for country, but, in no particular order... (leaving out duos)

The Eagles
Cross Canadian Ragweed
Randy Rogers Band
Eli Young Band
U2

There's a lot of newer country bands that will probably usurp U2 for me in a few years.

I know a guy my age that only likes bands like journey and boston and the beach boys and the beatles. It's not a walk down memory lane, but would you consider that staying in the box?

Journey, Styx, Beach Boys are all fringe top 5 for me.

Just because its older, doesn't take it out of the equation, or make it any less significant, IMO.

I'd say the top 5 bands in my rotation these days are in no particular order:
-Led Zeppelin
-Muse
-Killswitch Engage
-August Burns Red
-Wu-Tang Clan

Honorable mention to Toto.

How can one abide so well and be so wise, yet still like the Vikings?

Can't help it really. I grew up liking them, but it was my time in Wisconsin that really made me a hardcore Queens fan.

By the way, how'd you like our quarterback yesterday? ;)

260 passing yards, 2 TD ( still yet to throw a INT) and 40 rushing yards and one rushing TD. I thought he played pretty well.

It was against the Rams so you shouldn't be too happy, but you still won, whatever we blow

I don't know if they're technically "bands" but if you include "groups", you gotta throw in Wu-tang, Outakst and of course, NWA.

I was actually happy that most of the ghetto poetry fans stayed away from this thread. Though I'm not gonna hate on you, you actually listed some groups with talent.

They're not my favorite groups/bands of all-time but I felt like they are all high-caliber musical groups that were getting overlooked.

No order just a couple off the top of my head.

Led Zepplin
Radiohead
Rolling Stones
RATM
Arcade Fire
Oasis

RATM without the political undertones is not RATM. That's what makes them good to me. Who doesn't like a little left-wing radicalism yelled in their ears every now and then?

The band members don't like it, but I think it's fair to separate the politics from RATM. I wouldn't call them undertones though because they're pretty evident.

What makes their music good is the passion and heartfelt anger that comes from De La Rocha....regardless of what he's saying. Their song titles work even if you ignore the political side: "Take The Power Back", "Know Your Enemy", "Freedom", etc. can all be applied to everyday life.

No Rage will ever compare to their first album because it's the only one with genuine spinechilling rage.

Not the easiest thing to do so I'm going to wuss out completely and do the albums I'm listening to most at the moment

The Rapture - Pieces Of The People We Love
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Dizzee Rascal - Tongue n' Cheek
Phoenix - Alphabetical
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik
Ben Harper - Fight For Your Mind
Arctic Monkeys - Humbug (so glad it didn't sound like Favourite Worst Nightmare)
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Little Boots - Hands
Sublime - Sublime (it may be commercial, but **** it's amazing)

...Ok, that's 10 albums when asked for 5 bands. Still that's pretty much what i'm listening to at the moment.

Said anger is derived from his political and social commentary. It's not good because of the product, but because of why that's there. Plenty of things in this life are good - but what we really wanna know is why.
