Good game so far. Our defense is playing really really well. Hopefully they can keep this up with our offense not doing much.

0-4. Not as much of a blowout as I expected though.

From what little I saw the lack of pass rush stung again. The offensive line played better which is surprising considering they were playing the Giants and their stud DL. Maybe O'Callahan will solidify that right side a little bit. Also, the Chiefs really need some offensive weapons. They really don't have much.

Not enough offensive weapons bad play calling and not enough pass rush.

I have Steve Smith (NY) on my FF team so atleast I had that going for me.

They aren't bringing guys on the pass rush because they're trying to prevent blow-outs. The thinking is if they play fundamentals, they'll keep themselves in the game long enough to have a chance to win.

The problem right now is the offensive playcalling not doing enough to make up for the bad OL and to get Cassel in a rhythm. They don't call the screens and draws until 3rd down, when they're useless. If they start doing more things to mask their deficiencies and emphasize their strengths on offense, they can start bringing more pressure on defense because they don't have to protect the offense so much.

The play calling has been downright abysmal. There is no other word for it. It was easy to playcall when you had Fitzy and Boldin but where you have less talent it really shows. Chan Gailey could not be this bad. He actually ran an offense tailored to the teams strength (ie Thigpen and that spread formation) and I know he could do the same here.

Getting fired from his last 4 coaching gigs is evidence that Gailey could not get it done as a play caller. The only reason he wasn't fired was to see if they could do anything else with Thigpen. Once they figured out Thigpen is trash, and got information from Gailey about the rest of the offensive carry-overs, they dumped him. Gailey is not a good offensive coordinator. He's not the guy for the job.

Gailey might not be the right man for the job but I'm starting to think Todd might not be either its hard enough being a rookie HC let alone calling plays at the same time.

I think that's Zorn's problem in Washington.. Imagine trying to do 3 jobs in your first HCing gig? I don't think he is a bad coach, it's just trying to do too much soo soon.

I'm somewhat willing to give Haley a pass for the simple fact that there is nothing there at all to work with. That said, I don't see how we transfrom this offense at all after this year so our scheme is going to have to get us by. We just have so many needs that it's hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel right now. How we perform after the bye week will tell us a lot about what we should expect next season.

Also, has anyone heard what we got for Thigpen? I have heard rumblings that it was a 2nd rounder but have not seen it confirmed anywhere. If that was in fact the case then I would feel really good going into the draft but it sounds a bit outragous too me.

I would be down right shocked (But Happy) if we got a 2nd for TT that is just wish full thinking by fans IMO I'm thinking at most a 4th but my guess would be a 5th.

I agree that Haley's a good HC, but it's too much to do all he's doing in his first year with the Chiefs. He needs to delegate more. I think not getting Romeo Crennel this off-season was a huge blow to Haley's ability to focus on the offense and let the other coordinators handle everything else.

Haley just doesn't have a great staff right now. Maybe the staff he has can be good, but too many of them are in brand new roles (including himself) to be able to put it all together right now.

The Chiefs should be able to mask their OL problems with playcalling. They don't have outright studs at WR, but the guys they have are very reliable receivers who can make some plays if you get it to them underneath, and they have runningbacks that can do things in open space if you call screens on first or second downs.

Every rookie head coach thinks he has to do everything himself. The key to a successful coach is he learns he needs to delegate, so we'll see if Haley will realize this.

Also, I have seen the Chiefs send people on blitzes and they don't get there. I've seen them drop 6 or 7 into coverage and they are still beaten. They need to get people that can rush the passer and that will make them all look better.

Kindle might be a good option in the draft. He can rush the passer standing up.

Other than that, it all starts with the offensive line. We absolutely need to address that and soon.

I think we need atleast three new starters next season on the OL be it FA or the draft RT,RG and C.

And I'm not talking about players in their mid 30's or waiver wire players I'm talking about legit starters...

I'm 100% with the whole you bulid your team with the draft but this team is to much a mess to not atleast grab a few starting FA's.
