View Full Version : The Late Night Hunger Thread

We don't have one of these yet. I figured I'll make one. I'm usually one of those people who are up til 3 or 4 in the morning. And a lot of times I get hungry. Nothing quite satisfies like a burger. What do you guys eat when your hungry as hell in the middle of the night?

El Burrito Loco is a meal for a family. Especially if you douse it in the spicy salsa.

That said I usually just get home and have a yogurt.

I'm not that picky when it's real late. What ever is available suits me just fine. I have matured to the stage where I will no longer leave my house and drive anywhere for a late night meal (you will eventually reach this stage too). When I did, Taco Bell was by far the establishment of choice however.

I only find myself eating at 3 or 4 if I am drunk. Halal (Chicken/Lamb and Rice or a gyro), Pizza, Hot Dogs, and Big Macs are what I usually opt for. Halal is by far the king of drunk food tho. Douse it in white sauce, some hot sauce and your good to go.

Yeah, when I'm drunk I usually go grab myself a shawarma. Otherwise, I don't like to eat that late in the night.

I don't eat late unless I'm really drunk, in which case I would probably eat anything put in front of me. Here in Oxford we have this place that sells fried chicken on a stick and it is probably the favorite place for drunk snacks in town.

Maybe taste-wise...But you cannot beat a full menu that ranges from .79-.99 cents. 4th meal needs to be restated as drunk meal. I think some comedian on Conan had a whole bit about that.

Taco Bell after midnight = 2 Tums + PeptoAbysmal
Mickey Dee's after midnight = 2 Tums + Alka Seltzer + PeptoAbysmal
Wendy's, Carl's Jr, etc after midnight = Let's not even go there.....

I think Taco Bell is run by morons. They had that Triple Steak Burrito & it was great, then deleted it, limited time only offer. I walked away asking if they were running a for-profit business.

I did that the other week. I was up at 6am since I had to attend this student teaching meeting. Then drive back to Dallas and work that night. I worked an overnight shift, and got off work at 6am. I didn't have a chance to nap. I was up 24 hours and like 20 minutes.

A guy I knew went through some sort of intensive training for some spot in the Army, and I forget what specifically for. He's blindfolded and told that there is a barrell of **** in front of him. Because of his mental state, he believes it and starts freaking out at the "smell." I get up at 6 most days and only sleep in on sundays, since I'm either hungover or wrecked from a day of work and a night of study.

I've spent the last three weeks going to be at like 11pm and getting up at 6. My body clock has pretty readily adjusted too. I eat healthy as **** and drink diet coke with lunch which helps with the afternoon tiredness, but you don't need the 8 hours some people swear by.

The answer is simple. Pancakes. If you're up that late eating anyway you won't be awake in time for breakfast. Kill two birds with one stone(r) and eat breakfast before bed.

Warm syrup, powdered sugar, peanut butter, whipped butter, blueberries, chocolate chips, whatever your fancy...Pancakes get the job done.

Whistler6
10-18-2009, 12:16 AM
No, you dont. But, you'd be lying if you said you dont love those days when you can just sleep as much as you want.

During summers I lay in bed throughout the day with the excuse I am saving up my energy for when college starts back up. Right now, I'd kill for the nap times my kindergarten-age sister gets at her school.

If napping was a job, I could build a career.

I've had to deal with bouts of insomnia since I was 14 or 15 and I figured out pretty quickly that eating was only further suspending sleep (especially if it was a full on meal). Certainly, eating a snack is often necessary, but I can't imagine eating a burger at 3 in the morning.

A full week? No. closer to about 5 days when they first start BUD's. Even then, I know at some point they doze off for a few minutes here or there, which can actually make it seem worse. None the less, lack of sleep can really mess you up.

It sounds a lot like SERE school. The Marine Corps does there SERE training in Maine. They make all recon and flight personnel do it to teach them how to evade capture and resist torture should they get caught. Nobody ever avoids being caught. You have to sign a waiver before attending giving them the right to break at least one small bone and one major bone in your body. A buddy of mine got his sternum broken

Never anytime after though. Doesn't seem worth it. Wendy's if it's still open when I'm hungry. But, depending on the night I may get a cheesesteak somewhere in Philly being I live 10 minutes out.
