Too many years like the Newman contract.

Takes him way past 30. Already 27.

Meh. It's an NFL contract. Only guaranteed thing is the bonus. Plus, he's not at a position that guys slow down quickly... like CB. Or a position that gets him beat up like RB.

Pass rushers are expensive. Ware is not only elite, but possibly the best at it. It took a decade to find a double digit sack leader, and he's done it 3 times. This contract is what you get if you want to keep him. I'm glad it's not Haynesworth level. I knew it would be more than Harrison, but it's not so expensive.

And Rob think about it this way with Ware's age. Great pass rushers are still good in their 30s. Reggie White, LT, Bruce Smith, Strahan, and Jason Taylor have all had good success in their 30s. Ware isn't the type of rusher like Julius Peppers or Jevon Kearse. He's more than just athleticism.

I have no worries about him lasting for at least 5 more years.

Whoops nevermind. I thought it was $78 million because on NFL Network they just said 6 years at $13 mil a season which is 78. Damn $118 is too big. I don't like the sound of that. That's gotta be with singing bonus included.

Ware will be fine, look at James Harrison. Only thing that could hurt him would be playing on the turf.

Let the era of defensive players making 100+ mill start.

I'm cool with D players getting paid more. A ton of QBs that get big contracts aren't even worth it, so the D needs some love too.

Great news for the franchise as he should retire as a Cowboy. Ware's a great player and person he deserves to be rewarded.

Here's just how good Ware has been for us when stacked up against all time greats...

Most Seasons Leading League in Sacks
(2)
Mark Gastineau, N.Y. Jets, 1983-84
Reggie White, Philadelphia, 1987-88
Kevin Greene, Pittsburgh, 1994; Carolina, 1996
Michael Strahan, N.Y. Giants, 2001, 2003
***Now Demarcus Ware 2008, 2010

DeMarcus Ware vs. All-Time Greats:

Sacks in First 6 seasons as Starter:
Demarcus Ware: 80 (1st)
Lawrence Taylor: 73*
Joe Greene: 71.5
Derrick Thomas: 77

*First season wasn't tracked so used 7th season

Force Fumbles in First 6 Seasons as Starter:
Demarcus Ware: 25 (2nd)
Lawrence Taylor: 15
Joe Greene: 9
Derrick Thomas: 28

Consecutive Double Digit Sack Seasons in First 6 Seasons as Starter:
Demarcus Ware: 5 (1st)
Lawrence Taylor: 4
Joe Greene: 3
Derrick Thomas: 4

Double Digit Sack Seasons in First 6 Seasons as Starter:
Demarcus Ware: 5 (T-1st)
Lawrence Taylor: 4
Joe Greene: 5
Derrick Thomas: 5

Number of Times led the League in Sacks in First 6 Seasons as Starter:
Demarcus Ware: 2 (1st)
Lawrence Taylor: 1
Joe Greene: 0
Derrick Thomas: 1

I think it's safe to say that not only is Ware on pace for a Hall of Fame career, he's also on pace to be one of, if not the, Greatest 3-4 Outside Linebackers in the History of the NFL.

We're watching someone special guys - enjoy it

That's damn impressive, considering how well of an open field tackler he is in the running game, also. Ware for HOF!

I was thinking about making a post about this on the GB. But Ware's 5 straight seasons in double digit sacks put him in some seriously select company. Just one player during the 00s did it: Simeon Rice. Not Freeney, not Peppers, not Strahan, not Jason Taylor not Warren Sapp, none of those guys. The only guys that I can find who have done it before are Rice, Reggie White (an unbelievable NINE straight years with double digits), LT (seven straight) and Bruce Smith (one streak of five, one streak of seven). There might be a few others, as I just checked all the great pass rushers who came to mind, but that gives you an idea of the pace that DeMarcus has set for himself.

The dude is a monster and is on a level by himself among pass rushers, imo.

But we should've taken Merriman!!.... lol

Ware is probably the most consistent pass rusher since Simeon Rice. He doesn't just rack up sacks against mediocre guys and ride that high total all season. He's got a great repertoire of moves to keep guys guessing, and that's why he has had so much success. I think he'll continue to be good as he gets older because he's as skilled as he's talented.

Even more impressive in his six seasons only one other player has accumilated more that 10 sacks in a season (Greg Ellis 12.5 2007) on the team. During his tenure as a Cowboys he has generated 32%(80 out of 253) of the sacks for the team and this year and absurd 44% (15.5 out of 35 total sacks).

Honestly, I wish Merriman were still considered great so there would be a sort of Brady vs Peyton kind of dual. If Merriman kept playing at a high level, it would've motivated Ware to play even greater than he already does :-D

Right off the bat fresh HC Garrett does something right! Great move. Ware is HoF Canton material.

Ware was the single best draft choice of the franchise since Heisman winner Roger Staubach in 1964, & they had to wait like 4 yrs on him.

Call me crazy but TAMU OLB/DE Von Miller looks so much like a Demarcus Ware clone..... draft him so he won't play against us.

No, the contract is from 2 years ago I just bumped it when I posted his stats of how he ranks in his first 6 years among guys like LT, Derrick Thomas, and Joe Green. We do have him locked up for another 4 years tho!! haha, sorry for the confusion.
