Day One Pick
11-26-2009, 07:22 AM
I went around and compiled the top 10 (Seniors Only) rankings from 15 different sites. I did not include Sam Bradford or Dez Bryant even though they have already decided to enter the draft. Not every site included them just yet. I wasn't able to find Mel Kiper's Big Board, so if anyone has that to add that would be great. I found a total of 26 different players ranked in these top 10's. Here they are.

In the end none of this will have a whole lot of meaning once the post season starts for college prospects. Guru's are interesting reading but like the rest of us, they still depend an awful lot on what the people who are associated with the NFL have to say before any of them can come close to predicting the draft. After the Super Bowl, pro teams turn their full attention to the draft, many more people attached to the organization become familiar with their team's draft boards and some leaks begin to occur. Then you have the NFL's own draft site on NFL.com and the truth about player's strengths and weaknesses starts to come out and all of a sudden, guru draft sites take on a radical change from what they suggested before with 25-35% changes in their round 1 and round 2 draft boards.
You have to remember that multiple pro scouts from every team get to see every prospect play, they can also watch high quality film on every prospect and often get to interview them on a casual basis and watch them workout up close. No guru has the financial resources to scout every player this thoroughly and they are lucky if they can get a limited amount of film of suspect quality on a lot of prospects. They don't get to see the prospect workout and they can only interview a few of them. That is why they are so dependent on getting the information from a few leaks that might occur and why they pay special attention to people like Mayock who works for the NFL and has many contacts among the scouting community and GM's.
No Gurus are invited to the combine and none of them have the financial resources to attend every college pro day, so to expect them to know this early in the draft process who the top 32 prospects are is rather ridiculous. These early lists aren't worth the paper they are printed on. It may be an interesting read but it really won't help anybody at this point to find out who the top prospects are with any certainty.
Thanks for the effort but don't be fooled that it is a true indication off anything. It is just a general list which gives us a framework to work from as long as you keep an open mind that huge changes are coming.

Your forgetting that juniors aren't included in his lists. I wouldn't be surprised if neither went #1 or #2.

CDSdraft is epic fail with Chancellor, Ciron Black, and Trevard Lindley in their top 10

id be very surprised if one of them werent in the top 1 or 2 come draft day, unless cleveland is picking number one i dont see how a team like the bucs, the lions, the rams couldnt take a franchise DT or OT when all of them need one the other or both but I could see a junior taking one of their spots but i doubt both

Awesome work, Day One Pick!!

Is Trent Williams really a top 10 prospect?? I'd hate to overdraft him, but the Skins really need a replacement for Chris Samuels, whose career may be over with a repeat spinal injury from a congenital condition.

Thanks You.

I just found it interesting how there are so many different views. Had it not been for a few sites that only rank seniors I would have included the underclassmen. With the underclassmen included these rankings are even more so all over the place.

You mentioned Trent Williams. I saw him as high as 4th overall and as low as 23rd overall (again, seniors only).
