Breaking news: On Wednesday, JoePa announces plans to retire after the season.
Sucks that Bowden has to end a legendary tenure on such a sour note. Despite his recent troubles (on and off the field), no doubt he will be remembered as one of the greats.

I'm going to miss Bobby although he's had assistants running things there for some time now.

Miami and UF just picked up some more recruits.

Only somewhat true. Bobby had most of the control over hiring the coaching staff.

Actually, it's quite the opposite. FSU was suffering from instability under Bowden. Once Fisher takes over and fills out the staff, recruits will view FSU more positively.
It's not like Bowden was personally recruiting anyone.

Probably closed more than a few sales in recruiting too. But even that has probably been fewer and far between as the years went on.

Eh, the turmoil with the coaching staff was killing recruiting already. Now having some stability, recruiting won't suffer in the long run. Bowden was definitely a great recruiter, but FSU is still in Florida and Jimbo, Trickett and other guys who will stay on the staff have been the guys recruiting the best the past few years.
Overall it was time, its sad the way it went down. I never thought I would hope for Bowden to retire, but his attitude during this whole situation has been terrible. He's acted so selfish for the past 9 years and obviously thinks he's bigger than the university. I'm very excited to get a new DC in here and for Jimbo to clean up some of the dead weight on the coaching staff.

Recruits don't go to FSU to "play for Bowden", period.

Well he's been given two options: Retire or come back in a very reduced role which he doesn't want to do. If those options stands he'll retire but he has a meeting tomorrow so he's still hoping he can get another option.

True, the Board of Trustees had to circumvent the Bowden Dynasty lapdogs AD & University honchos to remove him.
This is a forced retirement, they had to use crowbar to get him out of there.
I'm glad Fisher is finally getting his shot, sad too he had to ascend to the Seminole throneroom like this, it can't be good for recruiting. Best advice for him: run a squeaky clean program, no more Bowden lax discipline. Given their past it's the only way to clean up their reputation. It's not impossible, Oklahoma & Miami overcame their horrible reputations & have come back.
"It was pretty good most of the time as far as good, clean football," Spurrier said. "There was the one year they kept knocking quarterbacks out and bragging about it, and that was a little upsetting to me. But anyway, that was just one year. We had good games. We won a few. They won a few. Everyone says we won the one that counted the most."
That would be the 1997 Sugar Bowl, when Florida won a rematch over Florida State to capture the national title. Bowden was 8-5-1 against Spurrier.
"To finish in the top five 14 straight years (as Bowden did from 1987 through 2000), that means they were one game away from the national championship in 12 of 14," Spurrier said. "He's had some of those unlucky bounces, some of those wide rights."
Spurrier with the parting shot. hah

Bobby Bowden's time was/is up. I hope Jimbo does a good job. Recruiting is key.
