1. Cleveland – Jake Locker QB, Washington
They have so many problems on both sides of the ball, but their offense is embarrassingly bad. It’s time to start over with a new QB. They could go defense here too, but it would have to be Suh, because sorry, safeties aren’t number one picks.
2. Tampa Bay – Ndamukong Suh DT, Nebraska
Warren Sapp v2.0 is destined to play in Tampa. This defense needs help up front and in the secondary, but stopping the run and getting pressure on the QB has to be to priority, and Suh is the best player in the draft.
3. St. Louis – Jimmy Clausen QB, Notre Dame
This is probably the least talented team in the league. They have nothing. So they need to start over and grab a potential franchise QB in Clausen to be the new face of the franchise.
4. Detroit – Russell Okung OT, Oklahoma State
The number one priority in Detroit has to be to protect their new face of the franchise. Gerald McCoy will be tempting here, but they need to protect their money.
5. Oakland – Gerald McCoy DT, Oklahoma
This pick may not happen due to the fact Al Davis is stubborn and won’t admit Tommy Kelly is a major bust signing, but in the perfect world, Kelly is cut and they draft McCoy. Oakland has to be upset to see Okung off the board before they get to pick, but McCoy is a great selection as well.
6. Kansas City – Eric Berry S, Tennessee
KC has to be ecstatic that Berry fell this far. He fits a major need and happens to the one of the top 3 players in the draft. They will be lucky to grab him here.
7. Buffalo – Anthony Davis OT, Rutgers
Here’s a guy who seems to be climbing up draft boards. They have really felt the absence of Jason Peters, so they address that with a top LT. Sam Bradford may be tempting, but with his injury history, he won’t survive behind that offensive line.
8. Washington – Ryan Mallet QB, Arkansas
Dan Snyder loves to make a splash, and Mallet has all sorts of potential which will have the Redskins drooling. Sam Bradford continues his plummet down draft boards.
9. Denver (f/Chi) – Sam Bradford QB, Oklahoma
Kyle Orton is not a franchise quarterback. Ol’ Neckbeard will have another year or two starting in Denver before Bradford will take over the reins. Denver could easily address some defensive needs with this pick, but they will be lucky if they are able to grab Bradford here.
10. San Francisco (f/Car) – Taylor Mays S, USC
A lot of San Fran fans don’t like Mays or don’t think he is the exact type of safety they need, but I am not sure if they will be able to pass on this kind of a talent. They need a safety, and Mike Singletary will be able to get what he needs out of Mays.
11. Seattle – C.J. Spiller RB, Clemson
Seattle needs a LT and a QB, however there are none worthy of this pick in my opinion. Bruce Campbell I could maybe see here, but I think it would be a stretch with his injury-proneness. Luckily for Seattle, they can snatch up a top 10 talent in CJ Spiller at a position of dire need. The running back position seems to be a little undervalued, but they should make the right choice here.
12. Miami – Terrance Cody NT, Alabama
They need a big plug in the middle of their defense. Miami could easily go with a LB here like Rolando McClain or Sergio Kindle, but they key to a great 3-4 is a great nose tackle, and Cody has that potential.
13. Jersey/B – Joe Haden CB, Florida
They could use a WR or a 5-technique or even a pass rusher, but Lito Sheppard sucks, and while Revis may be the best CB in the game, they still need another one on the field with him. Joe Haden happens to be the top CB in the draft, so they are lucky to land him.
14. Jacksonville – Jerry Hughes OLB, TCU
The best pass rusher in the draft. He might not have the same size as some of the other top prospects, but all this guy does is pressure the QB, and that’s exactly what the Jags need.
15. San Francisco – Rolando McClain LB, Alabama
This guy is scary good. Takeo Spikes is getting very old and a top talent like McClain might not be available in a year or two when Spikes retires. The possibility of McClain and Willis playing next to each other should have 49er fans salivating.
16. Houston – Marvin Austin DT, UNC
They really could use some cornerback help and would like to see Haden fall to them, but they got some holes up front, too. Marvin Austin should be able to step up and make a huge impact right away.
17. Jersey/A – Derrick Morgan DE, Georgia Tech
Morgan is a freak. He has terrorized the ACC this year. The Giants have lots of capable pass rushers on their roster already, but you can never have too many. And the Giants scheme really depends on getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. This is a good pick up for them here.
18. Atlanta – Sean Weatherspoon LB, Missouri
I really like this guy. He is an animal. Weatherspoon will help shore up the Atlanta linebacking corps. They could use help in the secondary and they could also use a defensive end opposite John Abraham.
19. Pittsburgh – Charles Brown OT, USC
They need help and depth at the tackle positions, no way around it. They have needs at safety, nose tackle, and a few others, but protecting the concussed Big Ben should be a priority.
20. Seattle (f/Den) – Bruce Campbell OT, Maryland
I almost had them taking Campbell with their first first rounder, so this is a good pick up here. He has some injury problems and is raw, but has loads of potential.
21. Baltimore – Dez Bryant WR, Oklahoma State
A steal at this point in the draft, Bryant will be a much needed weapon for their young quarterback. They have a big hole at CB too, but from a sheer value standpoint, they must take Bryant.
22. Tennessee – Carlos Dunlap DE, Florida
This is a complete boom or bust pick. I can’t stand Dunlap as a player, because to me a lazy player is a bad player, but his raw potential should be enough to justify the Titans taking him at a position of need.
23. Arizona – Jermaine Gresham TE, Oklahoma
They could use some help on the defensive side of the ball, specifically they could use a pass rusher, but a talent like Gresham will be hard to pass up. A top notch tight end would take their offense from dangerous to unstoppable.
24. Green Bay – Bryan Bulaga OT, Iowa
This offensive line sucks. They have been playing better as of late, but tackle depth should be the number one priority. Clifton is as good as done, and the other side isn’t too pretty either. As a Vikings fan, I would like to see them take Trent Williams, though.
25. Philadelphia – Brandon Graham DE, Michigan
Graham is a much underrated and super productive player in college. He is pretty short and isn’t the fastest cat out there, but he should be a good pro player for a long time. Patrick Robinson was my other option I was going back and forth with for this pick.
26. Dallas – Trent Williams OT, Oklahoma
Dallas really needs some youth on its offensive line. They have needs elsewhere such as receiver, but getting younger on the line MUST be Jerry Jones’ top priority.
27. Cincinnati – Earl Thomas S, Texas
The Bengals will want Gresham here, but safety is arguably a greater need anyway. I am not sure if Thomas or Nate Allen would be the better fit in their system, and I am not going to pretend to know that I do, so I just opted with who I think is a better player.
28. New England – Arthur Jones DE/DT, Syracuse
They need help at all levels on the defense, but Jones is a great value this late and offers versatility on the line. Plus, a good 5-technique is hard to come by, and Jones may very well excel at that position.
29. San Diego – Jonathan Dwyer RB, Georgia Tech
They would have to be kidding themselves if they think LT is still capable of carrying the load. Dwyer is a bonafide every down back and could be special. They could opt for a nose tackle here, but Dwyer is a steal.
30. Minnesota – Dan Williams DT, Tennessee
Hmmmm, a 330 lb defensive tackle who is quick off the ball and destroys the run with the last name of Williams… Sounds like he was destined to play in Minnesota, and a perfect replacement for the aging Phat Williams.
31. Indianapolis – Jason Fox OT, Miami
A large left tackle from Miami is the choice here. Fox is an underrated player and I think he will move up into the end of the first round come April.
32. New Orleans – Brian Price DT, UCLA
Price is a solid player that fits a position of dire need for the Saints. Simple as that.
Draft order is based on my power rankings, not current standings. Jersey/A and Jersey/B credit to TMQ. Thanks Gregg. All feedback is encouraged, positive or negative. I will do my best to explain my picks if there are questions, and I may be way off on something, so tell me what you think and why.
