According to someone who watches his broadcasts at UStream -- which I might do someday if my television is stolen, there are no books left in the world, the rest of the internet dies and a sniper is perched outside ready to kill me the second I leave my home -- Chad Ochocinco plans on changing his name again.

He made the announcement on Sunday morning before the game against the Lions. This time, the new name will be "Hachi Go," which is Japanese for "Eight Five." From Glenn S. Moore at The Dugout Sports Show:

"I'm not sure how Mr. Goodell is going to take it," Ochocinco said as he held up the jersey.

But why "Hachi Go"?

A Japanese film crew was in town a couple weeks ago to do a piece on the Bengals for a NFL show over there. They said all NFL fans in Japan know who Chad Ochocinco(notes) is and they seriously made a proposal to Chad to change his last name to "Hachi Go".

"Some fans of mine that are Japanese said I should change my last name to 'Hachi Go'."

How many times can you legally change your name?

How many times can you legally change your name?

I don't think there is a limit?

I always end up calling him 85 any ways so it doesn't matter to me. :)

As a citizen? there is no limit. As an NFL player? Well I'm going to assume that goodell makes a rule sometime soon :P

Chad is brilliant new name change = more money from jersey sales. 85 is the PT Barnam of the NFL.

Nah, because he'll have to buy up the remainder of the Ocho Cinco jerseys. That's what happened when he changed his name from Johnson.

Chad reminds me of the kid that everyone loved to play ball with in elementary school. Great player, but funny as hell so you just love having him around

I would love to see him do and and love to see Goodell just watch and be able to do nothing about it. I'm sure he'd loved to fine him for it, but it's perfectly legal.

DO IT CHAD!

I imagine the people who bought an Ochocinco jersey will be upset though.

I like how he's continuing to not change his name to "85" but to "8-5". Oh well.

It's a two sided thing, they keep losing a brand, but in itself, it's awesome for the NFL, because he's a better character than anyone in the WWE at the moment.

Guy hasn't been in headlines for smacking around a woman or driving drunk, just being a fun dude, no reason not to allow it imo.

He actually didn't buy them. Since he opted out of the purchase, he ended up having to wear Johnson on his jersey for the rest of the season and the Ochocinco jerseys didn't become available till this year.

I like how he's continuing to not change his name to "85" but to "8-5". Oh well.

He refers to himself as 8-5, not 85. Last week against Detroit I had to hear Brian Billick sit there and try to correct Chad on this, so I guess we're not to the point where people realize he's doing it ON PURPOSE. If he wanted to be eighty five, he would change his name to some foreign language version of eighty five.

While Chad doesn't necessarily come off as a genius, he is in fact well aware of what he has legally changed his name to, I know this because he said it himself.

Gotta admit Chad Hachi Go has a much better ring to it than Ocho Cinco.

Also, they should just start selling Bengals 85 jersies with velcro attachable names on the back.

It should just be a collectors set.
White with Johnson nameplate
Black with Ochocinco nameplate
Orange with Hachi Go nameplate

That's why I love Esteban Ochocinco. I'm telling you, the guy we once knew as Chad Johnson will revolutionize the term "athlete-artist".

I cannot believe how often people make this observation and claim hes dumb. I find it ironical.
