View Full Version : Goals for 2010

So, I'm sitting here writing down some goals for 2010 and I thought it would be cool to get an idea of what everyone else's ambitions are for the next year.

Here are a couple of mine:

Read a book by an author with last name from A-Z
Run at least 750 miles
Start at least three new hobbies
Attend at least 20 sporting events
Buy a new/used car (haven't decided)

So what are everyone else's?

I just read online that one lady's goal is to get divorced...doesn't get much better than that.

Get back in shape.
(seriously, I quit smoking and added a ton of weight - I've made my mind up it's time to lose it)

Get myself to a new school that appreciates me more.
(My school has gone through a great deal of change over the last year and for as much as I can handle the situation that has sprung up around me, my administration has failed to realize what they have in me - that will change)

Rosebud
12-20-2009, 05:47 PM
-Try in my classes for once
-Get back into the 205-210 range (I lost 20 pounds my freshman year of college, since then I've gotten back around 220-225 should be tough since I'm actually lifting this time whereas freshman year I just ran and didn't eat)
-Get a job as bartender once I turn 21 (should work out since I'll be working at Buffalo Wild Wings before then and they'll have a bar once they open in january)
-Get a summer internship

And the one goal that hasn't changed in the past 8 years, avoid punching my mother in the face.

Get down below 200; I've been hovering between 215 & 225 for the last few years.

That's about it. With a kid coming in the next 2 months, I'm thinking that i will have a lot more to worry about than just myself. :)

The usual.

Some work related goals, lose some weight (from my slim 175 to something even slimmer), quit smoking (probably not).

I have several and plan on accomplishing all of them:

1. Get in shape. I'm currently 290, 40 pounds heavier than I was when I went to college. Starting on the first of the year that's what I'm concentrating on.
2. Quit smoking. I told myself that I would quit when I graduated college, then it was when I get a good job, then it was when I get out of debt. None of that is working. I have to quit.
3. Quit drinking. When I drink I want to smoke and when I drink I can't have just one, two, or three. If I want to get in shape, alcohol is going to have to go out of the window until I get to where I want to be.
4. Get a job. I'm currently substitute teaching which is fun but the work is too sporadic. I want a real job, which I'm already in the process of getting.

and finally, my ultimate goal...

5. Join the military. I have been talking about this for quite some time and still haven't done it. I'm turning 27 in a couple of days and it's time for to do what I need to in order to join or just give up the idea altogether.

So, those are my goals.

-Start working out
At 5'11, 145 pounds, I'm very slim. However, I am only 17 so I have some time to build muscle.

-Avoid senioritis
It's set in and I want to try to get rid of it since I am taking 3 AP classes, which means 3 AP exams in May

I need to read. End of story.

-Pick up a hobby or two.
Now that I can't play baseball in the spring I need something to do to stay in shape (I'm not too confident in this whole exercising thing if you couldn't tell). I'll probably do outdoor track in the spring/summer

Hmm.

1. Get in better condition. I want to gain 15 pounds of muscle this year. Got about ten this year I think, so it should be obtainable.

2. Eat more. Goes in line with other goal. Think I'm going to start drinking milk because I just can't eat much if it isn't all at once.

3. Get a future. I'm sick of not doing ****...ever. I either need to get a job or go to school. Possibly both.

4. Stay with my girlfriend through college. Tough, but more doable in my situation than for other people I think.

5. Play a sport. Maybe start boxing again, play a little basketball, something would be nice. Probably don't have the time.

1- Get in better shape. I'm 5'9 and 190 lbs. I want to shed 10lbs. I'll be nice and cut afterwards.

2-Begin running more ~10 Miles/week

3-Have a succesful first semester of college. Hoping for a smooth move down to PA as well

4-Teach my son how to walk and potty train him. Get a "daddy" out of him as well

5-Walk on to Penn State football team and play on kickoff coverage. I'll be that lil Puerto Rican guy who leads with his helmet lol

everyone has goals because we want things
meaning, when we want things, they come with goals or ends for them
goals lead to disappointment
if we all want things and they come with goals, we all are disappointed
Therefore, we are all disappointed

"What it means to be fully human is to strive to live by ideas and ideals
And not to measure your life by what you've attained in terms of your desires but those small moments of integrity, compassion, rationality... because in the end, the only way that we can measure the significance of our own lives is by valuing the lives of others...
Fantasies have to be unrealistic because the moment, the second that you get what you seek, you don't, you can't want it anymore. In order to exist, desire must have its objects perpetually absent; It's not the 'it' that you want, its the fantasy of 'it'. We are only truly happy when daydreaming about future happiness; This is why we say: the hunt is sweeter than the kill, or: be careful what you wish for - not because you'll get it: because you're doomed not to want it once you do. Living by your wants will never make you happy."

-Continue my recent trend of getting in shape. I lost over 15 lbs this past year. was a little over 220. now, I'm 205. my goal was always to get below 200. So, that'll happen early. Keeping it off will be the new mission.

-Compete in some sort of mini triathalon. My wife does them. she thinks I'd enjoy it. I am skeptical. But, it'd be a nice culmination of my recent weight-loss.

-Get a better job. This has been my goal for the last few years.

Since high school wrestling (3 years ago), I started and for some reaoson maintained a vegetarian diet. I just finally reintroduced some meats like turkey and chicken again a few months ago.

Because of the lack of protein I lost like 15 pounds, and so my goal is to GAIN the weight back (hopefully) as muscle.

Chicken, fish, eggs, oh my God I can't believe I have been missing out on this stuff. It's like discovering a whole new world.

Start with a 5K or 4 mile race. Around where I live, they are put together all the time. Whether finishing high or not, they get me jacked and motivated to keep working out.

In high school, working out was fun because I had a reason...get bigger and strong to do better in the sports I was in. Now it's like, alright let's get fit for??? Having something to work for is huge.

I did a month long triatholon where you log your hours in a book each week. Biking piece of cake, running ahh not bad, swiming kicked my ass. I hate swimming laps with a passion.

A big thing I'm trying to do is find a balance in what I do with myself. It seems I'm either working too hard or lounging around too much. Another problem is that my grades are consistently sporadic. If they're good, I'll start putting in less and less work and then they'll take a fall. I pick them up again, and the process seems to repeat itself. I've got to find a balance that suits me.

Lose weight......I've lost a little over break, as I've been going to the gym and such. On a similar note, I need to lose the beer belly. I used to have a six pack, but it is....gone.

There are a few other small things, including trying yet again to reform some of my blatant personality problems. But that's about it.

I like that one, learn an instrument.

I met Todd Haley, Mike McCarthy, Edgar Bennett, and Ken Whisenhunt last February. Stayed in the same hotel as Nike sponsors at the combine. Saw a lot of prospects just walking around in Indianapolis. Literally walked by Belichick on the street. Heard a Tony Dungy speech. Was in the same room with just about all 32 Head Coaches, Roger Goodell, Dan Rooney, Marcus Allen, and Jeff Ireland. I was around some high profile guys that weekend.
