This is my first mock draft, and first time here in the forums. I made this up last night and trust me there was a lot of controversy on the picks for me, with a lot of players in reach for a lot of the teams. In other words, it is bound to change.
ROUND 1
1. OAKLAND RAIDERS - CALVIN JOHNSON
Assuming Moss will be traded to Green Bay for Aaron Rodgers, this means a replacement needed for Moss, and Johnson will do more than that. Broad jumping 11 ft 7 inches is top of this draft class, and being 6-5 240 running a 4.35 doesn't hurt either.
2. DETROIT LIONS - JAMARCUS RUSSEL
Already sliding one pick, the Lions will pick Russel if he was to fall this far. HAs one of the best arms seen in a long time coming out of college.
3. CLEVELAND BROWNS - BRADY QUINN
This is home for Quinn, since he will be under Romeo, and he also said this is where he wanted to play. Peterson is out of the question with Jamal Lewis coming over from Baltimore (I know its just 1 year, but ever heard of extension?) , also Peterson has had some injury probelms in college, which should take a very serious look from any NFL team.
4. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - ALAN BRANCH
This is the best pick for the Bucs right now, with Rice aging and McFarland being traded away to Indy.
5. ARIZONA CARDINALS - JOE THOMAS
Joe Thomas sliding this far is to the Lions as Reggie Bush was to the Saints last year. The fans will love the pick, and I see the decision taking less than thirty seconds.
6. WASHINGTON REDSKINS - ADAM CARRIKER
Great size (6-6, 300) and can provide a pass rush from the outside or be used on the inside.
7. MINNESOTA VIKINGS - PATRICK WILLIS
Filling the void left by Napoleon Harris, Willis will anchor the Top ranked defense from 2006, as a rookie.
8. HOUSTON TEXANS - LARON LANDRY
Landry is a monster. Has great size and great speed, relative of Ravens DB Landry, so you know he has great instincts. Ran a mid 4.3 at combine, which is movin'. This would be a great fit for the Texans.
9. MIAMI DOLPHINS - GAINES ADAMS
Showed everyone he is the top true DE of the draft by great position drills and times.
10. ATLANTA FALCONS - ADRIAN PETERSON
WR is no longer a need after picking up Joe Horn, and Peterson was not expected to drop this far. Dunn is getting old and Norwood isn't ready to handle the load. Peterson would be a great pick for the Falcons.
11. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS - AMOBI OKOYE
Continuing on their roll of picking up talents in the first round, SF will do just that. Okoye will be playing his first game at the age of 20, and has a lot of upside.
12. BUFFALO BILLS - LEON HALL
Losing Clements is huge, and there is a hole at CB. Look for Marshawn Lynch to be a possibilty, but with the Bills re-signing Anthony Thomas today, they might feel confident with him carrying the ball.
13. ST. LOUIS RAMS - JAMAAL ANDERSON
Very productive in 2006 racking up 13.5 sacks, Jamaal Anderson is huge at 6-5 286.
14. CAROLINA PANTHERS - REGGIE NELSON
Minter is getting way old, and Landry is off the Board. Nelson has been an impact player at DB for years at Florida, and this adds some security to the panthers secondary.
15. PITTSBURG STEELERS - JARVIS MOSS
A tweener such as Moss is needed with Joey Porter gone, and Moss is athletic enough to play up or on a hand. Look for an end going to Heinz field.
16. GREEN BAY PACKERS - MARSHAWN LYNCH
This is needed for GB because there is absolutely no depth at RB after Ahman Green going to Houston. I am no fan of Lynch, but its the next best thing and it is Green Bay's only choice in my opinion.
17. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - LAWRENCE TIMMONS
I don't think another reciever is necessary here, and if one is drafted, I will have to call the Jags the Lions from now on, never knowing too much. This pick might not make a lot of sense to some people but Peterson is getting older and there is a weakness at LB in my eyes.
18. CINCINATTI BENGALS - GREG OLSEN
Helped himself at the draft by running a great 4.4 forty and made the catching look easy. This will add a whole new dimension to a Bengal offense that lacks a recieving tight end.
19. TENNESSEE TITANS - DWAYNE JARRETT
Titans took a blow from losing Drew Bennett, and they need a reciever to replace him. Replacing him should be easy with Jarrett, who is about the same size and speed of Bennett (maybe faster, we'll see on his pro-day)
20. NEW YORK GIANTS - LEVI BROWN
If he was to slip this far, he would be gone in a second.
21. DENVER BRONCOS - ROBERT MEACHEM
The Broncos have an aging WR in Smith, and a good one in Walker. Throwing Meachem in the mix would be a great addition.
22. DALLAS COWBOYS - CHRIS HOUSTON
Houston would be great for a struggling Dallas secondary.
23. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - TED GINN JR.
I see Ginn going ahead of Bowe simply because he would be a better fit for KC. He could help much more as a return man, replacing a late Dante Hall.
24. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - DARRELLE REVIS
Samuel might be holding out, and if not, the Pats need someone to play opposite side of him.
25. NEW YORK JETS - Aaron Ross
Never quite had a replacement for Ty Law, an impact corner is needed.
26. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - DWAYNE BOWE
With Stallworth leaving, this is a logical pick. If I was the Eagles, I wouldn't feel too comfortable with Reggie Brown as my No. 1 reciever.
27. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - PAUL POLUNKSY
This would be huge for New Orleans, who has a big hole at Linebacker. Polunsky was a natural leader at Penn State, and if only he could bring that over to the New Orleans defense, who knows what it could become..
28. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - MICHAEL GRIFFIN
Continuing on with their Secondary makeover the Pats draft Griffin, a solid safety, who will someday replace Harrison, or fill in for him if he gets hurt, and do nicely.
29. BALTIMORE RAVENS - QUINTEN MOSES
Great athlete who can fill in for Thomas' absense as tweener.
30. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - SIDNEY RICE
With McCardell getting older, and lack of a no. 2 reciever, Rice is a big target at 6-5, and would fill in for McCardell someday.
31. CHICAGO BEARS - JON BEASON
Briggs wont play another down. Look for the Bears to replace him then trade him away.
32. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - QUINN PITCOCK
Sneaks into the first round just in time to solve a struggling Indy D.
