The great thing about the NY/NJ area is that St. Patty's day is like a three week celebration. On March 3rd Hoboken, NJ had their parade. It was a long day after starting to drink about 10am. There was about 10 of us in total. At around 8pm half of us went to get pizza. I stayed back. When the half that went to get the pizza returned they saw the rest of us passed out.

I wasn't at the parade, but in the outer skirts of it, and I remember like 4 guido kids acting tough trying to ruin the fun for some Irish guys.
The Irish guys kicked the living **** out of em. One of em starting tearing up, and claiming he's gonna come back with his uncle from the Mobb. Yeah...not many St. Patty days memories for me, but that was great.
Sorry to bring guidos into this, but that was just a great moment in American history.

When I was living on Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, we happened to have a long weekend around St. Pat's. We went down to Savannah, Georgia for their St. Pat's parade. It was freaking great. Probably the best St. Patty's day I've ever had. Lot's of booze and ladies!

I attended the Atlantic City St. Patty's Day Parade on Saturday. Didn't drink because I wanted to play good poker, but I was hung over from the night before.
My St. Patty's Day this year is starting really early. I have a 7 AM tee time to play a quick 9 holes with my friends. We have a handicap system where we all take a shot to start. The winner of each hole takes a shot. By the end, the bad players end up being on par with the good ones. I'm absolutely terrible, so I'm usually the designated driver. After golf, I have to go to county softball "tryouts". Basically, free agent players go out and play a little, then get picked up by teams. After that, I'll sit down at my TV with a lot of beer to watch the NCAA games (got the package on DirecTV). I'll finish the day at the Irish bar down the street with a bunch of car bombs...

I've heard Savannah has a sick parade. Second best to NYC in the country. Which is weird to me. I wouldn't imagine Georgia to have such a big parade.

It's an amazing time. I remember in like 2001, Maxim or FHM rated it the BEST St. Pat's parade in the country. That was why we went in the first place.

I have Kegs and Eggs on the Upper East Side in NYC at 8am. I assume around 9:30 or 10 will make our way to Midtown for the start of the parade. After that it will be back and forth between Connolly's and the parade route all day. Connolly's is a half block off 5th ave so you can go up to the bar have a couple beers, go back out to watch some of the parade, go back to the bar, go back out to watch more, etc, etc. I'll also have my eye on the tourney games when I'm inside. When the parade is over who knows where the day/night will take me. By this point I'm normally quite the mess and I normally have to call it an early night.

In Philadelphia our Parade is always the Sunday before so it was 2 days ago. A great time. I am in the parade. Me and all my friends dont even walk the parade route. We just go bar hopping. Then my brigade had a party at a bar from 2-5 all you can drank. After that we went back to the bar we hang out in to watch the selection show. Then off to our second party from 6-10. Thats where all our girlfriends met up with us. It was open bar so it was still fun. Then after that we went back to the bar and got even more wasted. This Saturday is gonna be great St Pattys day/ Tournament. I love it. Kind of sucks I wish Notre Dame played Thursday so if they won they would play Saturday. With them being the Fighting Irish and all. I would have been drunk and probably lost a ton on them. So maybe its good their not playing.

If you're not Irish you shouldn't be allowed to wear any Irish type clothing on St. Patrick's Day.
I don't wear a ranchero outfit for Cinco de Mayo or a Dashiki during Kwanza.

Its easier though. Anyone can find something green for St. Patrick's Day. Most likely they already own something. I wouldn't know where to begin to look for a ranchero outfit or a dashiki.

I don't get this, 4th generation Irish-Americans celebrate this day more passionately than any of the UK countries will do so with their patron saint. I don't even know when saint Georges day is and can't think of the Welsh saints name. Someone explain this logic/culture?

This is America. We'll think of any way possible to throw a parade. We throw parades better than any country of the world. And on this day it is perfectly acceptable (most times preferred) that you get banged up as well.

I disagree, Brazil has the best parades by far as long as they stick to the nicer parts of Rio and away from all the dirty over populated areas. They have the advantage of nice weather all year round though.

Best parades or best parade as in singular. I know Carnival is sick, but isn't that once a year. We seem to have a parade for everything in the states.

I don't know all of them, I've been to carnival when I was visiting my family and then another one is Sau Paulo where they live, had no idea what it was for, both were incredible. I think my cousin said that there was a parade that lasted over a week in Sau Paulo about 8 years ago, eventually it wasn't even a parade and they were just partying and it was just a minor celebration to begin with.
My girlfriend's mom was born and raised in Brazil and she said that Carnival is just insane. Although from what I understand, you are right. There aren't very many parades throughout the year.

Wouldn't mind spending a Paddy's Day in the future in New York or someplace, although last time I ordered a Guinness the barman poured it straight up without letting it settle, it was the worst pint I ever drank.

Not really. Actually I shouldn't say I jump over the rail into the parade. They use 47th street as one of the filter routes onto 5th Ave. Different groups of people who are supposed to be in the parade line up on 47th street before getting on the parade route. The bar I always go to is right there on 47th street so two years in a row I've stumbled out of the bar and just mixed in with the people waiting to march like I belong with them. Two years ago I marched 20 blocks in the parade. The only bad part is when we decided the stop marching we realized it was then 20 blocks back to the bar.
I never said I hate Irish Catholics, I just said I hate the holiday. I'm still nice.
Go Rangers.
Excuse me, but I believe that you just contradicted yourself you said "I'm nice and Go Rangers." I think you meant to say "I'm a ned"

Interesting fact: "Celtic were the first British club to win the European Cup and Rangers have the distinction of having the first player - Willie Woodburn - banned for life. This infamous honour was attained in 1954 when the aforementioned footballer punched Alec Paterson of Stirling Albion in the face."
and seriously, do Orangemen believe in saints?
That's a religious question to the point that an answer wouldn't be appropriate. I wouldn't mind answering in PMs.
I appreciate the offer, for my quetion is heartfelt. I was always under the impression that protestants didn't believe in saints. Yet, no Scottish protestants seem to have a problem with st. andrew's day.I looked some on the internet, but could find anything.

Well, I'm not sure if I would call Killian's "Irish." It really just carries the namesake of an Irish brewer who's brewery closed down in the '50s. It's been brewed and bottled by the Coors company since 1981. Pretty much just another American macro in disguise, although I admit it beats the hell out of most it's counterparts. At least it's drinkable.
The two really aren't even comparable though. Killian's is a Red Lager, while Guinness is a dry stout, which is an ale. They couldn't be any different in terms of style. I'm assuming you either prefer lagers, or you don't like stouts. Guinness is actually pretty good if you get the Original Extra Stout or live in Ireland. The draught is pointless. In Ireland, I hear the quality is very good. And I'm positive that any Irishman would think you were crazy if you told him Killian's was better. But who gives a crap. You're right, there is no reason to drink either of these brews when there's so much real beer to choose from at the same price. I think it's hilarious that Guinness tries to sling their Extra Stout for $3.00 per bomber, and $9.99 per sixer. Those are high-end prices for a mediocre brew. The only time I ever drink either of them is when they're given to me.

Killians is actually brewed by Anheiser Busch I believe. Also from my experiences in Ireland, Guiness Draught is actually more prevalent in pubs. The funny thing over there is that most places have Guinness and Guinness Extra Cold on tap. There is was nothing better than having a Guinness Extra Cold from the bar they have at the top of the brewery. All the walls in the bar are windows and some say is it one of the best views in Dublin.

No, it's definitely brewed by http://www.coors.com/brews_brands.asp. And it wouldn't matter anyway, because my point would be valid either way. I don't just pull things outta my ass, and I know my beer.
Never been to Ireland, but I know Guinness is of a higher quality over there. You probably know this already, but the whole idea behind the draught is to be able to drink it straight from the container because the widget is supposed to create a synthetic head through the use of liquid nitrogen and CO2. In my opinion, this adulteration of the beer results in an extremely watered-down product. It doesn't have the same rich color or taste of the original, and it only contains 4.2 ABV, compared to the Original 6.0 ABV. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the draught is more popular over there, because generally speaking, the masses are ignorant. It's a gimmick, and people love things that are shiny. Just look at "our" chosen staples. People who know Beer would undoubtedly choose the original. I can pour a satisfactory head on my own without sacrificing quality. Perhaps they should just improve on the actual product, rather than masking it's faults by obliterating the product all-together. Maybe then I would be willing to spend $10 on a six pack. But probably not, because there are hundreds of stouts that are already light years ahead in terms of quality and price. Guinness is just another last resort beer. It's still enjoyable, but only if you can't get your hands on something good. Which is never a problem around here.
