What do you guys think of ESPN? Personally, and I know a lot of people feel the same, I feel that it is a joke, and when people take seriously waht people what Sean Sealsbary and Mark Schlerith have to say, I think of 2 possible things. 1, you don't have NFL Network, lol, or 2, ESPN gets so much hype that everyone watches it and worships it, because they are so-called "experts". (even tough they are no where close to experts)

What is your opinion? Because I have already stated mine, and I think it is a joke.

I just like their news coverage, not the analysis.

You are an expert, you should be the football analyst on ESPN. Your Cowboys analysis is unparalleled in my opinion.

Well Terence Newman won your other poll, so that was a joke too, because he sucks.

03-13-2007, 03:57 PM
LOL ok. Easily better than Ronde Barber. And that is why he was on everyones pro-bowl list, and ronde barber was not, but the fans are a joke.

03-13-2007, 04:02 PM
ETK, you would honestly take Ronde Barber right now over Terence Newman? right now. Newman just entered his prime, and ronde is leaving his, and Newman is better anyway.

I mean come on, be realistic now.

Ronde was more deserving to be in the Pro Bowl last year. In the Tampa 2, I would take Ronde over Newman. In any other defense, I'd take Newman this year.

ESPN is a hodge podge for me. I think Sports Center sucks anymore. Too much shtick and not enough real news. The analysis they get on their sports is very good. You just have to pick and choose. I like certain analysts, but I don't listen to others. If you're willing to put up with crappy work from certain people, you will get the benefit of the doubt from others. Some of NFL Network's stuff is a little off as well. I like to mix and match and take from both of them.

NO WAY IN HELL RONDE DESERVED TO BE IN THE PRO-BOWL OVER NEWMAN. NO WAY, and you no that.

I do agree that Ronde is better in the Tampa 2 because he is a slow, zone CB, and Newman is a fast, more of a man-to-man CB. In any other system Newman is way better. But Newman is better in a Tampa 2 than Barber is in any other system, that is why I don't really like Barber. He would get flat out DESTROYED if he played in a man-to-man type of game all game. Newman wouldn't be very comfortable in a tampa 2, but he could still play at a pro-bowl.

Newman definitly deserved the pro-bowl over Barber though. They both should have been in there though, D-Hall was the one who has no business there.

i hate how espn doesnt talk about newman enough. he was clearly better than ronde barber and deserves to be mentioned daily on espn.

really though where is the "i watch it but dont worship what they say" option.

Are you guys kidding me? This is a thread about ESPN, and there's been little discussion of the topic. If you guys want to keep up the debate about Newman and Barber and anyone else, feel free to revive the old thread, where somehow Ronde Barber was debated in a discussion about NFC East CB's...

As I said, people can get good information out of ESPN if they stick with the right analysts and also do their own research. Guys like KC Joyner and Mort and John Clayton get excellent info. Ron Jaworski is a fantastic analyst. I don't like Salisbury, but he does some good analysis on game tape. Guys like Michael Irvin and the Gameday jokers are a waste of my time...

You have to take ESPN with a grain of salt, while they cover everything their so-called experts usually are idiots with some exceptions. But hey any network with Kenny Mayne is okay with me!

bantx
03-13-2007, 04:42 PM

bsaza2358
03-13-2007, 04:42 PM
Kenny Mayne is a little overrated. He is fine in small doses, but he's an entertainment news anchor. His actual analysis is not what one would consider expert testimony. The network employs a lot of talented individuals. If you stick with the ones who know their stuff and prove themselves again and again, you are generally safe.

etk
03-13-2007, 05:22 PM
I agree with EaglezFan, and as far as TNewFan, no I don't "know" that Newman deserved to be in the Pro Bowl. He was burned by several people as listed by Shiver, and Ronde was solid all season and put up much more impressive statistics. Ronde was much more valuable for his team, single-handedly stopping the Eagles and dominating McNabb, who was on the way to an MVP season at that point.

Ronde Barber Career statistics: 662 TKL, 20 sacks, 31 INT, 5 TD, 107 pass defelections.

Terence Newman Career statistics: 239 TKL, 2 sacks, 12 INT, 0 TD, 53 pass deflections.

Overall difference: +423 tackles, +18 sacks, +19 INT, +5 TD, +54 pass deflections, all for Ronde.

Ronde is only 3 years older than Newman, so I think he has proven himself as a better corner.....

I watch ESPN. Mainly for the Sunday ...then Monday Night games (which were a far cry from what they were on ABC) and would never watch them during the day. I switched from Cable to the Dish as soon as they were offered in my neighborhood for FREE NFL network cable wanted me to spend another 4.99 because the rest of their limited lineup sucks.
With the Dish I get the NFL Network for free and spend the extra 5 bucks a month on a FOX sports package so I can watch College football and baseball from around the nation. Seriously Comcast / Charter / Time Warner whoever you have is about 20 years behind the times.
The whole "When the weather is crappy I don't get a signal" nonsense is way overhyped as well. In the 4 years I've had the dish I've never lost a picture.

anyways the NFL Network dominates in every facet. Sean Salsbury doing commentary on chess would be a joke, on football it's worse.
Look at the "experts" hired by ESPN....it's a laundry list of hacks and liars constantly trying to come up with new trade "rumors" that they start.
They make me want to vomit. When the t.v. in my living room isn't showing a game or the NFL Network it's shut off.

Actually that is not true at all. Jamie Dukes is very insightful and interesting, and he is far from an ignorant loudmouth. He has a vibrant personality, but he is far from Michael Irvin.
