It would be cool if they rematched the Vikings.

my guess is the Atlanta Falcons

If Favre comes back, that matchup is a no brainer. If he doesn't my guess is the Steelers or Falcons. They'd probably get more viewers if it was the Steelers, though.

I have heard it's either the Steelers or Vikings. Either way it should be a good game.

Agreed. Would be such a first game but I honestly think if the game is at pittsburgh, pitt wins by 17 but in the dome it will just be a fantastic game.

Two teams that collapsed down the stretch and didn't even make the playoffs? I doubt it.

Then again, last year's first SNF game was Bears/Packers, no?

It was either the first SNF or MNF. Can't recall which.

Vikings/ Saints grudge match? I hope Jared Allen wreaks havoc on Drew Brees.

Yeah, TBH I can't see the NFL being stupid enough to slot the Bears in there instead of the Cowboys or Eagles.

Nobody really cares about the Bears unless they're betting on the over/under of Cutlerceptions.

I'm going to be pissed if we lose to the Bears. We should be able to kick the crap out of them.

Its going to be the battle of the Tampa 2s. Who's defense will suck harder? Find out on Sunday Night Football.

I still can't believe you guys are going to waste the talent of that secondary runnning a Tampa Two. ******* stupid.

I don't want to make this a Giants defense thread but Fewell seemed very open in changing things up in his scheme. I have Cover 2 just as much as you BBD and I'm not really worried about it yet.

As for the game I figured we had an agreement with Dallas where we open their stadium last year and then they open ours this year. That's why I'll be suprised if it's the Bears.

Don't get me started.

You know I love me some defense. And knowing my team will most likely (Fewell supposedly may not run Tampa 2) run that garbage, it makes me wanna cry.

When I think of the NYGs running the Tampa Two, it brings me back to the rout they suffered at the hands of Seattle a few years back, where Tim Lewis ran it every time they Seattle got in the redzone.

You know what the worst part of that game was?

We ran Cover 2 out of the 4-3 every single play in the redzone that game. And they came out 4 WR.

It was almost as if Tim Lewis put money on the Seahawks that game. It was ridiculous. And I remember Eli bringing us back within 1 touchdown that game, and we obviously lost, but all the Eli bashers were like zomg he's the suxorzzzz bc it was his fault we gave up a billion points.

Our personnel is not built for Tampa 2, we're a man coverage pressure based 46 style defense. If we run Tampa 2, we're doomed next year.

And this is why you need Brandon Spikes.

Plug him in the middle of the 46 and watch Jeremiah Trotter be reborn in blue and grey.

You know this.

Spikes would be a beast for us and I know it. Which is why I wouldn't mind him at all. Personally, I think Spikes would be a beast in a lot of places, and he's worthy of a top 20 pick in my eyes. But most disagree with me.

Except for you of course :)

A rematch of the NFCC game would be awesome.

However, the league would be smart to just schedule a Falcons/Steelers at Saints game because it will generate more interest than a Favre-less game. There's just no way the league will know if Favre will retire or return prior to the release of the 2010 schedule.

I don't understand why it would be the Bears and not the Cowboys or Eagles either, but that was the rumor. I was a bit shocked myself. Maybe the NFL is trying to give us a better chance at a W to open the new stadium.

Again just to be clear, this is for that first Sunday game and not the Thursday opener. Don't want to confuse anyone.

While the Steelers or Vikings seem to be the popular pick, this wouldn't shock me. I always want to get a close as possible to a guaranteed W week 1, but I'd definitely be amped for opening up with the Saints.

Fadetoblack
02-16-2010, 03:44 PM
I think it will and should be the vikings. With or without favre, a vikings rematch with the saints is still prime time material just because of how close the NFCCG was. Having favre is certainly a huge bonus if he decides to give it another year too, and i'm not sure the schedule makers want to risk to give it to someone else and have favre stay. The difference between a favreless vikings game and a steelers/falcons game is marginal, while having favre makes it a much more appealing match-up than either of the other two.

02-16-2010, 03:48 PM

You are correct. But there was so much hype surrounding the Bears because of Cutler and the rivalry that it was pretty appealing at the time.

Bucs_Rule
02-16-2010, 07:56 PM
I'd much rather see Saints-Steelers. Both are definitly prime-time matchups, just the Vikings-Saints will be a huge game for the playoff race at the end of the season. Thats why the Colts-Patroits are always half way through, as they are competing for playoff seeding the game becomes even more important than just a great matchup. Saints-Steelers doesn't gain improvement. Its just a cool matchup.

The 2 recent times were because they won the SuperBowl the previous year. I can't remember the last time they were chosen for it.

yo123
02-16-2010, 11:41 PM
Yeah I really don't see any way that they don't pick the Vikings, given the way the NFCCG turned out that has to be the most attractive matchup.

Although if we don't have Favre or another respectable quarterback I really don't want to play the Saints on national television.

But watching ur favorite team lose on ur birthday? I know I want the Cardinals to face the Pirates on my birthday so they usually win, but this year its against the Phillies :(. Anyway, back onto football, wouldn't u rather have the Rams in the first week, so ur birthday week is ended nicely?
