View Full Version : Who will be the freaks of the combine this year?

superman
02-22-2010, 07:22 PM
Every year there's a few guys that just tear up the combine. A lot of the times not expected. For example, I think Cedric Peerman had the best pure numbers at last year's combine for RB's. Jared Cook for TE's, DHB for WR's, etc etc etc. And there's usually also a linebacker that comes in at 240+ and runs a 4.4.

And I see everybody mention JPP as being a freak, so go ahead and throw him in the group along with Taylor Mays. Who else?

ps: this is strictly about work out numbers, not necessarily who has the best rep of being a beast on the field)

not just a little guy that runs a 4.3

yeah they did mention he was a lot faster than expected

as for mays, i'm not buying the 4.2 hype. or even 4.3.

i think he'll run a 4.4, which is still sick for 230 lbs safety. and have about 25 bench reps.

02-22-2010, 08:51 PM
Jason Pierre Paul will run a sub 4.4 40 and set a combine record on the vertical leap.

Al Davis subsequently offers St. Louis his 2010 first round, second round, and third round picks, and Bruce Gradkowski, to trade up to the #1 spot, with which he drafts Pierre Paul.

**** Brandon Carter. He is a ball of lard. When we played them in the Cotton Bowl he got dominated by Peria Jerry all game and with a few minutes left got beat resulting in a blocked extra point, he then ran off the field yelling to the Ole Miss bench from the TT sidelines and the announcers were saying how he is so "mean". I don't understand the fascination with him outside of the fact that he is big and wears face paint. He will do nothing in the NFL.

Rennie Curran will come in at 5'10 but he is so explosive and should light it up in the drills.

Look out for Jason Worilds. It won't surprise me if he runs the fastest time of any of the DE's. He is so fast. Don't forget about Rick Sapp too.

Taylor Mays will not disappoint (unless you actually expect him to run a 4.2). He is going to put on a show.

Bruce Campbell has already been mentioned but I expect Bulaga to have a great workout as well.

Everson Griffen and CJ Spiller are two othes who have already been mentioned.

Junior Galette is a FREAKSHOW. He's a perfect 3-4 OLB with his flexibility and he has a chance to run a sub 4.5 at around 250. He's a great pass rusher, just doesn't get any rep cuz he's from Stillman (though he did transfer from Temple).

I'd say Jimmy Graham. There's always a really athletic tight end at the Combine.

I really doubt Tebow will blow away anybody. He won't be even near the top forty time for the QBs. Especially not with Armanti Edwards in the mix. I'll bet that Jarrett Brown, Armanti Edwards, Daryll Clark, Dan LeFevour, hell maybe even John Skelton run better times than Tebow.

Bryan Bulaga is one that was only mentioned by TACKLE, but I'll second that. I think he could very well come in around 6'5 5/8 310 run a 4.98 and put up the bar 30 times. In fact, that's my exact projection for him at the Combine.

I'm only through the offense/defensive ends on my Combine projections, but other standouts include...

- DE/LB Everson Griffen - USC - 6'3 1/8 268 - 4.69 - 29 Bench Reps

- OT Bruce Campbell - Maryland - 6'6 1/2 309 - 5.01- 33 Bench Reps

- WR Dez Bryant - Oklahoma State - 6'1 5/8 215 - 4.46 - 16 Bench Reps

- WR Riley Cooper - Florida - 6'3 1/2 214 - 4.43 - 14 Bench Reps

- RB Jonathan Dwyer - Georgia Tech - 5'11 1/8 239 - 4.48 - 17 Bench Reps

- QB Dan LeFevour - Central Michigan - 6'3 228 - 4.71 - 20 Bench Reps

- DE/LB Brandon Graham - Michigan - 6'1 260 - 4.74 - 33 Bench Reps

Some good ones there, i think the consensus though is Campbell will blow away the tackles in the forty. (he'll probably slide if he doesnt). Also that 4.43 looks slow for Cooper.

I think Cooper could be under 4.4, but you never know... Ted Ginn & Jeremy Maclin certainly looked faster on film and they didn't run that low. I expect something between 4.39 and 4.45 with 4.43 being my best guess right now. He should work out well in the timed drills, but I'm most interested to see him running routes and catching balls in the gauntlet.

If Dez Bryant is 6'1" with a 4.46 that doesn't make him a stand out - just some good not even great numbers. There will be a few 4.3x wide outs and 6'3" is the elite height that stands out - if you're shorter you're supposed to run faster.

Depends on what sort of track they have there, you had pointed out it was sort of middle of the road as far as fast times could be expected.

As for Cooper vs. Ginn and Maclin i would probably ask did Matt Jones look as fast and Cooper is playing in a conferance known for speed not like the slugs of the Big-10.

Dan Lefevour has the worst arm in this draft class.
He has no arm strength.
Horrible short yardage accuracy.
