so whats this all mean now? is Brady Quinn defiantly out? and is he the automatic starter?

That actually makes more sense than the talk of Wallace starting. Jake seems a Holmgren type. Quinn might as well pack his bags, i could see Pete Carroll taking a flier on him but that wouldnt be my choice.

Great signing for both sides. Delhomme gets a chance to start and the Browns have a QB competition that is better than last years.

He's a lot better than the alternatives...Quinn and Anderson. Delhomme and Wallace make a better duo in my opinion. I'd be happy in regards to what has developed with the quarterback situation if I was a Browns fan. At least happier.

Cleveland might say there'll be a competition for starter, but I doubt Delhomme signs to compete for the job. Maybe Brady Quinn should give up football and try being a pro bodybuilder instead.

Seneca Wallace is definitely the best QB on the roster, not Delhomme.
In 10 starts over the past two years Wallace has thrown fro 2,232 yards, 14 TDs, and 5 INts. I think Wallace was a great pickup for Cleveland. He's a nice option to start while they groom a draft pick.
I know it's not as simple as this, but if you convert those 10 starts into 16 his numbers would look like this: 3571 yards, 22 TDs, and 8 INTs. If he gets a shot to be a starter for a full season I believe he'll do pretty well. Probably won't get those, but he'd be better than some of the other starters in the NFL.

You act like Delhomme has been a terrible QB his whole career. While I think he's done in the NFL. Based on his past last year was his only year where he threw more INT's than interceptions and was a only factor in Carolina losing a lot of games.
He's always been turnover prone but he was worse last year. That said his upside as a starting QB is better than Quinns or Wallace's sure he might turn the ball over as much and be as bad, but when he's good, he's far, far better than either.

Delhomme was a medicore starter his entire career, but things went from "average" to "horrifically bad" ever since he just snapped in that playoff loss to Arizona during the 2008 season.
He's toast as a quarterback. He was never a great decision-maker, and always threw his fair share of picks, but he just can't do anything right anymore. It used to be that you could count on around 18-20 touchdowns to go along with those 12-14 interceptions, but now he's throwing 18-20 interceptions and 8-10 touchdowns.
And at 35, he's only going to continue to get worse.

03-06 he was pretty damn good, different schemes and offensive plays made him look a lot worse than he was in a lot of instances. I'm not saying he's ever going back to those ways, but when you're in a situation like Cleveland with no clear starter and no clear future at the position bringing someone in who can at least lead and offense and might just be able to be competitive for a year or two while you groom the future is a damn good move.

Regardless of who we have, if we have peyton ******* manning were not going to the super bowl next year.
Its not a good signing but its not a bad one either, as long as we get rid of Quinn and DA its a good offseason, and if we draft Bradford/Clausen its a better one because it's clear that Holmgren was gunning for that.

Trashing Jake is completely justified, but let's not forget that the Browns have a freaking terrific O-line going on. I mean if you're going to be in the gutter as a franchise, but can choose one part of your team to serve as a bedrock, you could do a whole lot worse than picking offensive line. Delhomme has performed at a high level before and with protection and a running game (35) you never know what can happen. If nothing else, Holmgren has a good track record picking out QBs.
I've been a big proponent of giving Brady a real shot but this move gives them more freedom in the draft at the very least.
At least the Browns made out with the best free agent quarterback on the market. Cleveland really need some receiving targets though. My goodness.

well we won 4 games in a row to end the season with the quarterback doing nothing but handing the ball off 40 times and managed a 5 win season with the abomination that is Anderson/Quinn. As hard as it is to believe we are actually in a better situation at QB with Wallace and Delhomme than we were with Quinn and Anderson. We just need to bring in some competent WRs and one more RB as an insurance policy to Harrison.

No, Quinn is not.
You're insane if you think Quinn is anything better than atrocious, at least delhomme and wallace have had some bright spots in their career.
Quinns's career is injury plagued getting the job and then pulled because of terrible performances and injuries, he isn't one bit good and has horrible accuracy.

Don't get me wrong, I like Jake Delhomme. he seems like he is a really nice guy. he arguably plays with more heart then anybody in the league. and they say he is a good leader in the locker room...but that being said he is a horrible QB
Physically he just doesn't have the necessary tools to be a elite QB in the league. Delhomme is wildly inconsistent reading coverage, has terrible footwork, poor arm strength, can't protect the ball to save his life, and is arguably the worst in the league with play action passes. Steve Smith is arguable one of the top 5 receivers in the league but people don't see that because he has had Delhomme throwing him the ball for years.
he had all the tools in Carolina to succeed. Personally I believe he one of the main reasons Carolina has been underachieving since they went to the Superbowl.
I just don't see how he is an upgrade over anything they had in Cleveland. yeah maybe he brings a leader to the locker room, but at this point in his career i believe people wont have any faith in him because they know what he brings to the table. I just cant see Cleveland being any better with this guy especially with no legit threats at WR.
That being said I will leave you guys with the

Ugh its like beating a dead horse.
Watch some full length Browns game and watch Quinn's throws or ask anyone about the end of the Ravens/Browns MNF game when everyone was ripping on him because he was throwing the ball 10 yards out of bounds on deep routes.
He isn't good, I dont care if his receivers are Moss Marshall and Fitz and hes got Gates lining up at tight end, if you can't throw passes anywhere near players you aren't going to complete them. He's a very bad QB, I'm pretty sure Mike Holmgren wouldn't just want to get rid of him for a 35 year old aging QB on the downside of his career if Quinn had any promise in his eyes.

That was Ron Wolf, not Holmgren.

i don't know how anyone can think he's better than anyone last year....maybe "as bad", but "better" no. it was a real pull watching him pass the ball.
Cutler and Delhomme easily. Every Panther game I watched with Jake in was just ew. And as someone said in another thread, Quinn has played in ONLY 14 games.

Gimme a break, with the vikings game along Cutler was better than Quinn was. If the Browns threw as much as the Bears threw with Cutler then Quinn would've had 30 interceptions and would have won zero games. In fact if you switched Quinn and Cutler last year I bet you the Browns would've been significantly better and the Bears much much worse. We were better with Cribbs at QB last year, and teams know he will never throw it.

The ****? No way in hell is Quinn better than Cutler, even if Jay throws more picks this year.

Relax, read the bold. He said last year, which is what I was referring to. And I dont feel like getting into another Cutler argument tonight. I'm a hater ;)

robinson is a hard worker, mobile, and has just enough arm strength. i can see him being tutored up to having a hasselbeck/bulger type career. he'll be locked in some storage shed for 3 years and then unveiled as the starter in 2012 or 2013.
haha yeah it will definitely take at least three years for him to adjust to an NFL offense, but yeah he is a great athlete so who knows. I just wasn't impressed with him in college at all, he mostly got it done with his legs and lobs to Dez Bryant.

Ive never really liked Jake but i will say that Jake has always played his best when he had competition for the starting job but when you hand it to him he plays his worst. Now i dont know how good his best is right now but if hes not just handed the job and has to compete with Wallace for it hell prolly win and the Browns will have a decent starter i think

I personally have Tebow falling to them in the 3rd Round.

Your franchise is screwed. You won't have even an average quarterback for the few seasons at a minimum. Teams like Philadelphia have a 3rd string quarterback who is better than your starting quarterback (whoever it will be in 2010). Deal with it.
I know the Browns suck, thanks for the reminder.
