Check this out:

A former star college player with an elite collegiate career as a quarterback tried to make it as a free agent recently in the NFL but was cut, and now he's back to try to make a splash once again at his school's pro day, two years after playing his last college game:

Could this be the next Kurt Warner?

Could this be the next Kurt Warner?

At what point in time did Anthony Morelli have an elite collegiate career?

I know, the next Kurt Warner is CHARLIE WHITEHURST! Just kidding, Seahawk fans.

Brian Hoyer is the only candidate for that title at the moment imo.

It's Rusty Smith.

He'll be a winner in the NFL someday.

If he does pan out you have to wonder what JoePa is doing with guys like Morelli and Devlin.

The definition of "elite" has just been cheapened by being used in the same sentence as the name Anthony Morelli.

Did this guy bag groceries while in his early 20's?
If not, then don't call him elite or put him in the same sentence as Kurt Warner, MVP and Super Bowl MVP and record-holder.

HHAHAHAHhahHAHAH this kid has no feel for the QB position...trust me...I watched him live and in person for two years and watched all his road games on tv.

All he has is a really good arm. That is it.

Thanks for making me laugh

that gave me a good laugh. in all seriousness, Anthony Morelli has the intelligence of my pinkie and was an awful QB in college. Elite would possibly be the last word I'd use to describe him...

If he did, that's as close to Kurt Warner as he'll ever get.

Chase Holbrook.

The guy was just amazing at school.

Never got to TC.

But one day he will be in the NFL. Or not.

I agree that being the next Kurt must entail bagging groceries, or else what's the ******* point, seriously.

He spent a few weeks bagging groceries at a Giant near where he lives.

He still has never been, and never will be, elite.

He was awful at PSU.

I was very curious and intrigued to see who this article was about, but then I saw it was on Anthony Morelli and I stopped reading the article. No way in hell Morelli is the next Warner, or even a starting QB.

He was never so much as a solid college player. I take Freshman Terrelle Pryor over Senior Anthony Morelli. He looks the part (Ht/Wt) and has a big arm, but as some others said, he has no football IQ, can't read defenses, and has awful accuracy. His chances of developing into a starting Quarterback in the NFL are less than Jets WR Brad Smith. Star player? In high school perhaps. Elite college career? Tell that to a Penn State fan. Morelli was the reason the team could never turn the corner in 2006-07 & 2007-08. As an OSU fan I loved Morelli as I watched him throw the game away two consecutive seasons (3 Ints returned for Tds)....

Maybe Matt Nichols from Central Washington is a better sleeper...

QFT.

As a Michigan fan, I loved that guy. I thought that those PSU teams could have been something if they didn't have one of the worst QBs in the conference.

If you want the next Kurt Waner, then look for a guy with good accuracy and intelligence, but limited national exposure -- probably a small school guy, who needs more time to develop. Tony Romo was basically the same type of prospect; excepting the fact that Warner had to toil in the minors, whereas Romo was patiently groomed by Dallas.

I'm not sure why PSU would even let him show up at the Pro Day...

He did have all of the elite physical tools (size, strong arm, accuracy) you want in an NFL QB prospect though.

I mean, maybe he didn't make the right decisions all of the time in college but that's definitely something he could have worked on since his last stint in Penn State.

If people could pinpoint "the next Kurt Warner", he wouldn't go undrafted. That's why Kurt Warner is Kurt Warner. The only person who thought he would be a star in the NFL was his mother.

I loved Anthony Morelli at Penn State. He was excellent in leading Michigan to wins over Penn State. Ask him if he remembers Alan Branch.

He was never very accurate & he was a horrible decision maker and game manager. Morelli was the punch line of the Penn State Big Ten champs joke.

After Branch killed him, he probably doesn't remember much actually.

the one michigan game i went to was against morelli. i don't know what he has that separates him from good high school quarterbacks. with that said, i can't blame him for trying one last time for an nfl gig.

Probably the whole being good part.

I don't blame him for trying, but he could barely play QB in college. At some point you haveto be honest with yourself and just give it up. For him, it's been about 6 years to long.

I know, the next Kurt Warner is CHARLIE WHITEHURST! Just kidding, Seahawk fans.Reminds me a little of the Stan Humphries trade years ago. Obviously, us Charger fans are happy, but it could turn out well for the Seahawks. Charlie looked predictably bad having to play with roster fodder in the preseason.

Dude, seriously, a lot of college QBs who got cut as a free agent come back to their school's pro day to try to make a splash. If these guys have a snowball's chance in hell, then Morelli's an ice cube with a heating pack.

Although, I believe Morelli's signed up as a QB for the new Arena league once they get out of bankruptcy, so that's sort of in Warner's footsteps.

But first he'd have to sell his soul so that he and his wife age in reverse, getting younger with the trickling sands of time.

Let's see here...

QB A:
Big time HS recruit
Multiple year starter at perennial Big 10 power
Sucked in college
Undrafted, but signed as a UDFA... sucked again in limited time
Signed with new AFL
Went back to old college's pro day to try and catch on

QB B:
Little known HS player
3rd stringer at Norther Iowa until SR year
Conference player of the year in his only year starting
Undrafted, and cut from training camp went on to bag groceries
Went to AFL and dominated
Finally got onto an NFL roster as a 3rd stringer
Became a starter via injury, and went onto HOF career

Sounds like the same guy.
