Wouldn't Hank be embarrassed to admit that Heisenberg has been his brother-in-law this whole time? There's no way he brings him in.

And as long as Walt leaves the plant in his backyard, it's possible for Jesse to find out.

Jesse isn't that bright. I'd actually be mad if the show had Jesse just happen to be sitting in Walt's backyard and notice that. Book should be closed on that, just like it is with Jane's death.

But I agree with you about Hank being too upset he didn't catch Walt sooner.

Hank would probably kill himself if he found out Walt was Heisenberg.

I'm thinking something to do with Hank will be the focus of the final season. Perhaps he figures out that Walt is Heisenberg at the mid-season finale and then the 2nd part of the season is dealing with the aftermath.

When it was first introduced, I figured something would come of it, but eventually it just seemed like a way of demonstrating the futility of Hank's handicapped condition.

I wonder if I have figured out the mystery of the disappearing ricin cigarette:

At the beginning of the "Bug" episode, Walt and Jesse are standing outside the laundromat. Jesse is smoking, and Walt asks for a cigarette. Jesse gives him the pack, Walt picks one out, and lights it.. He doesn't breathe in the smoke, and Jesse tells him that he's supposed to inhale. He only smoked half the cigarette before he stomped it out.

Of course now that I've watched more of the episode, it looks like Jesse put the ricin cigarette in a new pack before he goes into Gus' house. Blah. I don't know now.. I guess Walt could've replaced it somehow..

You read all that stuff on a different forum and just posted it here as your own opinion. No credit is due.

That isn't even remotely true. Ask Brodeur. He and I discuss the show at length after every live episode and I immediately floated that theory and spelled out how I thought it happened. There was no wavering in my conviction.

The theory really wasn't very prevalent on the internet.

Wow i totally forgot Breaking Bad is just 2 weeks away. I can't wait. Time just flew by since the season finale. Wasn't a huge fan of S4 but it was also the first time i watched episodes on a week to week basis. I still loved the Cartel storyline and hope they figure prominently this year. Too bad Steven Bauer's character died.

Soooo does anyone have a <3 FAVE <3 episode of Breaking Bad?

I think mine is "Sunset". I would say it's the episode that turned the series into the massive shitstorm that it became for the rest of Season 3 and then Season 4.

It has a great opening scene with the Cousins, Gale (and his perfect coffee), the very very tense RV scene with Walt inside holding the door shut while Hank tries to get it open, the RV gets destroyed, Jesse's "This is my own private domicile, and I will not be harassed... *****" line, the phone call about Marie and Hank's subsequent freakout in the hospital, and of course:

Ok, finally caught up on all the episodes (BTW, I DVRed season 4. AMC was showing them at 2am or so every night. They might still be.)

Holy **** season 4 was awesome. Love love loved it.

-Walt is now pretty evil. That image WMD shared is the truth.
-I think Walt's cancer is back.
-Jesse is actually likable and not a complete ***** moron now.
-Skyler is a terrible character. As is Marie. I think that these people can't write for women. These women are dumb, have dumb motivations, and have dumb actions. My wife gets especially pissed at how dumb and annoying these women are.
-I can't wait to see what the fallout of Gus being killed is. This huge empire doesn't have it's manager and owner. The German company has no CEO, the restaurant has no owner, and most importantly, the meth empire has no one running it and no sophisticated lab.
-So when Mike heads north and finds out what happened, just wtf does he do? Does he partner up with Jesse? Does he try to kill both Walt and Jesse? I think he will be gunning for Walt at some point.
-Maybe Walt gets the DEA to go after Mike.
-It would be UBER lame if Jesse found out about Walt being the poisoner.
-I am loathing the completely stupid and inane reaction of Skyler to finding out that Benecke died. What a worthless storyline.
-That big black dude has a very messed up dome. Good lord the poor man needed cranial surgery when he was a baby and he didn't get it.

Also, Giancarlo Esposito plays Gus absolutely beautifully. That is some serious acting. The controlled, reserved movements and emotions. It's one of the greatest bits of sustained acting that I've seen on film or television.

He should win awards for that role. I'm not sure if he has, but if he hasn't, it's a damn shame.

He's won some, but Season 4 of Breaking Bad wasnt eligible last years Emmy's (To be eligible, the show had to run from June 1, 2010 until May 31, 2011, Breaking Bad s4 ran form July 17, 2011 until October 9, 2011), so we'll have to wait until September to see if he'll win one for his role as Gus in S4. Nominees are announced in about 2 weeks.

He'll likely be against Dinklage and Paul though, so I dont know how good his chances are.

It's tough to pick one episode but one of my personal favorites is "4 Days Out." I really liked the back and forth between Walt and Jesse. It was really cool when Walt build a new battery to get them out of there. Plus it had a few really funny moments like, "A Robot?" and other lines like that.

TheBoyWonder22

I'd say Caballo Sin Nombre is way up there for me. Walt jamming to America, getting pepper sprayed, Walt Jr calls Skylar a *****, Jesse buys his own house, Walt throws the pizza, he breaks into the house, the two brothers are just outside of the shower. Many awesome moments within that episode.

Even though he's dead i'd love to see Gus in a flashback. They only hinted at his background but i'd like to see it explained more.

I could have sworn there was a German connection to the laboratory. Or some foreign connection.

And i know the don died, but I figured there would be some cartel members remaining and wanting to extract some revenge. I could have sworn there were a few cartel members shooting at Jesse/Mike/Gus when they drove off.

But i haven't watched the show or even read an article since the season finale, so it's possibly my memory is blurry.

Smooth Criminal

If they wanted to go that way I'm sure they could find more members of the cartel and give them a story. As we've learned in real life, the cartel will always be there no matter who you kill or capture. But I don't think that's a direction they would want to go. The cartel story was always tied more to Gus and his history than Walt. This season I think Walt is going to go up against the DEA mostly.

Xiomera
07-06-2012, 09:12 AM
I think they're done with the cartel. There's only 16 episodes left and it'll be broken in half in some sensible way.

I don't expect another huge external threat to be introduced. There will be another "bad guy," but I don't think there's another Gus on the horizon.

I know the actor wants to direct an episode at some point during the final season. As for appearing...

Gus' partner/brother/lover/whatever Max, the guy who got killed by Hector Salamanca by the pool, is confirmed to appear in a flashback this season. If Max is in a flashback, I expect Gus to be there too.

I found that episode interesting. It shed more light on Walter and Jesse. It revealed Walter's almost crippling paranoia, his complete one track mindedness and his relentlessness. It also showed that Jesse really cares for Walt. Jesse was legitimately concerned for Walt's well being and despite his reservations (he thought chasing the fly was a waste of time), he went all out at the end of the episode, risking his wellbeing, to kill it just for Walt. That episode defines the dynamic between Walter and Jesse. And I don't know if you're past that episode yet but in hindsight, it foreshadows quite a bit.

I can answer my own question now that I give it more thought. That opening scene was Walt's 52nd birthday, supposedly (assuming that's genuine and his new identity has the same DOB as his old one). The pilot episode celebrated his 50th. Roughly a year had passed to the end of Season 4. So, it's one year from the show's present, give or take.

Another amazing episode but what else were we expecting? Breaking Bad proves why it's still the best show on TV. The Walt / Mike exchanges were awesome, the magnet was awesome (MAGNETS *****!) and the ending scenes with Walt and Saul and Walt and Skylar were also epic.

Missed most of the opening scene because of the ****** AMC stream. Did he just pretty much get that gun from that dude at the diner? And where was he?

Talk to the waitress at the diner, rearranged his strips of bacon into the numbers "52," presents his New Hampshire drivers license to the waitress to indicate that it's his birthday. She calls him by a different last name (did anyone recall what his fake last name was?).

Then he meets his gun supplier, same guy from Episode 4x2, in the bathroom, gets keys to the trunk with the machine gun in it.

His New Hampshire license plate gives us the episode's title, as the state motto or something is apparently "Live Free or Die."

So, wait. Your answer to your obnoxious hypocrisy is that its okay because The Newsroom has more critics than Breaking Bad? Really? Ugh.

Anyways, It wasnt a bad episode. Im sure for most any other show id consider it to be really good. It just let me down because I had such massive expectations going in, and none of those was really met. Nothing about the episode excited me or really made me feel.. anything. Tying up loose ends great, and building toward the rest of the season is exactly what the episode should have been. It just didnt do anything for me. It was "good" in a "it was... there" way, like the Thrones finale to season 2. Nothing about the show was bad, but nothing about it was great either.

Again, im not saying that as fact (so put your pitchfork away Xio, with your "unquestioned greatest show on tv" stuff), just my view on this singular episode.

Though I will throw this in just to annoy you, I enjoyed Newsroom much more than any other show on TV last night.

Agreed. Mike gets all the best lines. He's a character I'm really hoping we see more of this season. They started to use him more prominently last season, obviously, but as the scenes for next week suggest, making him a full partner in whatever venture Walt and Jesse do next is gonna be awesome.

I doubt he'll be a full partner, really. He might be forced to work with Walt and Jesse, but he clearly gets how much of a problem Walt is more than anyone (and Jesse is slowly realizing it as well). I do expect him to become a main cast member now though, especially with Gus gone.

Definitely. It's pretty odd they didn't show him throw it away. Either they felt it was implied (which as we saw with Ted is not Vince's mindset) or it's some sort of plot device. Which is why I'm positive Walt will be dealing with Gus's people that Don Eladio eluded to.

When “Breaking Bad” premiered in 2008, audiences were shocked to see the lovably goofy dad from Fox’s lighthearted “Malcolm in the Middle” suddenly dealing with cancer … not to mention dealing crystal meth. So it’s understandable that AMC had reservations about Bryan Cranston’s casting, preferring movie stars John Cusack or Matthew Broderick instead, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "We all still had the image of Bryan [standing in the kitchen, in his underwear] shaving his body in ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’” one exec told the magazine. But series creator Vince Gilligan (who had worked with Cranston before on an episode of “The X-Files”) stuck to his guns, and now Cranston has a trio of Emmy awards as a result.

So I think Louis may play a bigger part in the series just by who plays him. I mean the last time he was shown he was probably about to film X-Men so either he'll become relevant or he'll never be seen again. The Jesse Plemons thing reminded me of that and they look a little similar so maybe he's his brother or something. Just a thought I have no clue honestly how they'll utilize him.

Absolutely no way Plemons can be Jesse's brother. He was about 12-13 when he was introduced, there's no possible way that so much time has passed that Jesse's brother could possibly be Plemons' age.

Jesse's brother is Jake. Louis is Walt Jr's friend. Haha no way I would suggest what you just said.

I think you're making a lot out of nothing. Is there any indication that Louis ever appears in another episode? I can't even remember the last time he was seen, so aside from the actor who played him being more notable now than he was when the show began, this all seems inconsequential.

That was really my point. I meant that at the moment it's the only actual role I could see for Plemons, and because of that I'm excited to see what they do with him.

A lot of hate on the interwebs for this episode. I don't get it, I liked it a lot.

It really feels like Saul is going to rat out Walt to Jesse at some point.

I think so too because I figured the plot with the ricin cigarette would have had no mention in the "Previously on Breaking Bad" from the premiere if they'd really moved on from it.

]the police have no idea who gus really so i dont think taking the picture isn't very unrealistic. They are trying to figure out his past and by doing that they probably took pictures of him with people they don't know then try to discover his or her past. Doing that could help them learn more about him.

imo, walt came across as more childish than bad ass with "because i said so."

That's so awesome. Playing his part would be so weird and would require a lot of discipline so kudos Mark! Plus he gets to play a badass in flashbacks. The difference between the roles is astounding so I really hope he wins it.

And Giancarlo Esposito has been nominated for outstanding supporting actor. I think he should win it over Aaron Paul.

That episode was just alright, although except for Season 1 and 3, episode 2 is normally the worst of the season so if this was the worst, I think that's pretty encouraging.

Sepinwall put it pretty well, he said that it was easy to start last season fast because Gus and Walt were already in the middle of their battle. This season they have to start completely fresh so its understandable that they have to lay some of the groundwork in the first couple episodes before **** hits the fan.

Loved this episode. It wasn't slow, featured Mike. Almost completely ignored Skyler and Walt Jr., and introduced the Germans and another higher level person involved with Gus.

So did Mike have a change of heart, or was his intention the whole time to threaten the ***** into providing more methlamyne?

And while it was a slow and clear set-up episode, it was still top notch. Enjoyed every minute of it. Love how they've been slowly turning other support characters into the "good guys" and Walt into the main antagonist.

Looked like he had a change of heart just judging by his facial expressions. I suppose the methlamyne option makes sense though.

I think he realizes that he needs to make more money for his grand-daughter now that the government is basically going to seize that account. He wanted to leave her something and they took it all.

His stance seems to have changed because of his encounter with Hank and Gomez. He basically knows it's all going to end soon, one way or the other.

Yeah, pretty much agree with all of you. They made it obvious that he took a huge hit when the DEA & FBI froze all their assets.

I like how this has changed the whole dynamic. Now everyone is desperate for money, and desperation = mistakes. Never fails to keep me hooked onto the next episode.

Xiomera
07-23-2012, 12:26 AM
Hank is a damn fool if he hasn't put it together yet. I'm hoping for the sake of character believability that he strongly suspects Walt is involved in some capacity, even if he ends up being surprised at the degree of his criminality. Perhaps he's got Walt on the back burner as he gathers more information elsewhere first.

MetSox17
07-23-2012, 12:27 AM
I'd probably credit Mike's awesome character 70% writing and 30% acting. Banks is great, don't get me wrong, but it's just scripted so perfectly.
