Looks like the Lions are interested in Pac Man, just waiting to see if he has been staying out of trouble.

(previously posted in roster/free agency thread)

If anything Adam Jones drastically improves Detroit's special teams/return game!!

Signing him for a minimum contract (ie dirt cheap via league standards) it is not even a risk. 1) He can be waived if the skill level is not up to par coming out of camp with low $$ obligations & 2) Detroit will sensibly put qualifiers in a contract for a repeat offender about off the field garbage, so they can cut him no strings attached if he screws that up thug-lifing it on 8 mile. ;o)

As stated before, potential high yield of return for minimal investment.

I just worry about point 1 (skill set) over him getting into trouble ... Dallas gave him a 2nd chance & it did not work out, now only a couple of teams even are looking to sign him. Word gets out quickly in the league on talent level on players ... if he could play at a first round grade still there would be more potential investors ... I'm just say'n. The new brass's achiles heel might be that they think they are the smartest guys in the room all the time. But if it's for a couple hundred grand, even if he just returns punts & kick off's, I would sign him.

Are you guys idiots? Who cares if this guy makes our secondary better. Hes a piece of **** scumbag who should have all his money taken away and have a permanent ban from the NFL. And if i remember correctly he was horrible for Dallas. This would be a horrible pick up for the Lions.

Rage much?? Yes, he was probably involved in the shooting in one way or another but its not like hes the only player in the NFL to have legal problems. I guess you want Ray Lewis, Lennard Little, Steven Jackson, Ben Roethlisberger, and many others perma banned from the league. Lets face it, most professional players are scumbags who do things we wouldn't approve of but thats how it is. And if he wont help the team we wont sign him.

...because we are in a position to be picky about character. C'mon we aren't the Patriots...THIS IS THE FREAKIN LIONS!
Seriously if he can be #2 corner and his contract request is reasonable we should sign him.

I'm not defending idiotic behavior but let's face it, Ray Lewis killed a guy ... he is still in the league, still a favorite of Baltimore fans & a leader of his team. I know he is now "born again" Christian & forgiven of his sins but the league forgives as well, so does our society.

He will not get a MAJOR deal or anything so there is little risk. A minimum contract with plenty of incentive based milestones I'm sure is what's on the table. If he screws up ... cut him free, if his talet lags at training camp ... cut him, if he starts blowing the chemistry & acting like a fool in the locker room ... agian, cut him. Low risk, high reward.

Have you ever done things that you regret? I know I have! I bet the world did not capture it & write about it nor was it viewed on you tube by tens of thousands of eyes ... just say'n, athletes (politician, movie stars, celebs, etc) are put under a microscope. They are people too who screw up & apologize, hopefully learn their lessons & move on. I think it's ridiculous the fame & money that flows there way but that's North American culture 2010.

I trust Jim Schwartz & Martin Mayhew to make the correct call on Adam Jones. If he does not come to the D, I'm cool with that ... but if the talent level is still there (he was injured in Dallas ... neck maybe?) & Schwartz/Cunningham feel they can wrangle him in on the field I trust them.

Can you even tell me what Pacman has gotten in trouble for? Or do you just following the stereotype that he has been labeled with. Permanent ban from the NFL? Mike Vick just served a year in jail and is back in the NFL. I don't think Pacman has ever even done jail time.

Yeah, what has Adam Jones done exactly?

Just off the cuff ... Mike Vick, Plaxico Burress, Rae Carruth, Jammal Lewis, Donte Stallworth, Leonard Little, Ray Lewis etc ...

all have either done time or been in the judges/jurries hands to decide their fates for time served & outside of Carruth (Plax to be determined) all are back playing in the NFL today.

had 2 good years with tennessee including 4 picks and 3 punt return tds

allegedly threw money on a bunch of strippers causing a riot. in ensuing riot his bodyguard shot a man in the spine...i'm thinking this was the parking lot shooting of 2007.

allegedly threatened or attempted to bribe either the witness or the victim to not talk to police about him

made a scene with jerry jones' babysitter in a hotel lobby

had a spine injury

I'm rooting for Pacman to figure it out. Start going by Adam (his birth name) get rid of the thug bubble that insulates him & takes the falls for the drugs/weapons etc ... let's hope he has seen the light & looks at this as an opportunity to get his life right. $$$ can do that, age too ... (I'm just trying to be optimistic, it would be a great story)

oh ... okay ... good for him. I guess he is stepping in the right direct! I honestly have not followed much or any of his career, especially since he's been out of the league "blending in" with society. It's probably good he has not been making it rain!

<sigh> I just hope he's still worth anything on the field and is less of a headache off of it.

If Jones has anything left, don't you think he will give it here?? This is his last chance to showcase he has NFL skills.

The question now will be if this signing (combined with Houston & Ward)alters a draft selection of one of these talented CB's we have tossed around in rd 2 & rd 3??

it should open the door for best in the 2nd and/or that oregon TE in the 3rd round.

I could not tell if that was sarcastic or not Prowler??? ;o)
Best is a solid 2nd round pick, no doubt.

ANY TE in rd 3 would be an epic fail! Only, of course, if he can play LG too & rush the QB while he is at it b/c we need those positions too!

If Pacman's camp leaked an agreement was reached I could see us nixing the whole thing.

people said that about round 1 last year. unfortunately i wasn't. i just remembered that his name was mentioned as one our many prospects who visited with the lions. if we are truly interested in him, then it would have to be in the 3rd round range. hopefully pettigrew's knee is fine, but maybe linehan is looking at some two TE sets and needs big bodies to go over the middle. Dickson is basically just a big receiver like Gates/Clark/Winslow. He'd provide Stafford with plenty of security since he should almost always be open. i would rather draft a top safety, but i'll trust mayhew.

Give this guy a vet minimum, and even if he screws up, there wont be any heart felt damage. Worst case, if he spends more time at Joy Rd, thsn at Allen Park, you cut him. Ahhh the things he could do at the MurdaMc...

Such a cliche that Pacman goes to the Bengals. So many things that make sense about that, in a bad way ... hindsite, I'm glad he is not in Detroit. (I'll admit my child-like short sightedness at first wanting him on our team!)

Still...given our current CB situation I wouldn't have minded us taking a chance on him. But it definitely could be for the best given the guy's past.
