View Full Version : What team has the best fans?

Inspired by the other thread of course. I realize some people will nominate their fanbase, and if so it'd be nice if you could at least mention one other team you're not affiliated with.
Personally, the nicest fans I've come across tend to be Lions or Colts fans. Knowledgeable and have a passion for football without being in-your-face about it.
The best travelers are definitely Steelers and Cowboys fans.
I've been to a couple of Steelers games at LP and they always find a way to get a great crowd in.
I've been to both games where the Cowboys came to town and they had a large group both times. For Vince Young's first career start they might have actually had a majority in our stadium. Sad, but true.

I've talked to a few Rams fans and I like them. I am from St. Louis originally so it's easy to talk with them.
Despite being a divisional rival Titans fans have always been good-natured when they come to Indy. I like them well enough.
Until recently I felt sorry for Texans fans and grew to like them. Any year now they're going to break out, I hope the fanbase doesn't get arrogant about it.
Even though the Chargers have knocked the Colts out of the playoffs a bunch I've almost always gotten along with their fans as long as we don't talk about Philip Rivers.

I have a great respect for 49er fans. They could be the guys that live in the past, but a lot of the ones I know dont.
I also like Viking and Titan fans. Viking fans have a lot of passion and Titan fans are just nice guys.

LOL. I guess I'd say Pittsburgh, I know there some who probably aren't the best, but the ones I've always known have been die hard, knew their team, and seemed to understand how a good team was supposed to be developed the same way the Rooneys' do.

I can only really comment on the board here and the fans I have met whilst on holiday in the states, but the Titans fans seem pretty cool, and the Jets fans were great when I went to their game. Really loud and passionate even against the Raiders.
(Anyone think AFC South fans too nice to each other? Ha)

People in the mid-west are just nice I guess, so that covers Indy and Tennessee. As YFS said the Jags don't have fans anymore and the Texans haven't done enough for their fans to be jerks yet.
If I had to pick a fanbase to be jealous of it would be either Pittsburgh or Green Bay. Those fans seem to live and breathe their teams. In Indy there's too much of a basketball culture, it's going to take a long time for it to turn into a football town.

Besides Pats fans of course I like Packers fans. In all honesty the Patriots fanbase has gone downhill over the last decade, we still have some great fans but the fanbase was as passionate and diehard as any group in the league ten years ago. We have a lot of fans but the group really isn't as strong as it used to be, Pats fans used to live and breathe Patriots football but that seems to have changed over the last ten years. There are a lot of fairweather fans now, you couldn't get a ticket during our super bowl runs because the stadium would be filled with people who didn't know half the team but now those people could care less about the Pats.
Packers and Steelers fans are awesome, don't like either team but their fanbases are very strong.

Seriously, they have the biggest bandwagon fan base I've ever seen.
I had someone talking **** to me that didn't know who Jerome Bettis was and another Person who didn't know who Cowher was...

The only franchise that could have had a team stolen from them and gotten the team name, history and colors back.
And up until the economy hit the fan, they were still selling out to see this **** storm.
Plus, there are more Browns backers clubs around the world than any other team in the NFL.

The best travelers are definitely Steelers and Cowboys fans.
Packers fans travel like hell. They're right there with Steelers fans, and better than Dallas.
I have been to Packer road games in 7 different stadiums, and there are always thousands of Packers fans.
I remember a game in Tampa Bay way back when both teams were good and Trent Dilfer was their QB. The Packers won, and I remember Dilfer in the post-game press conference just b*tching about it sounding like a road game when the Packers would make big plays.
Packers home games are such a tough ticket, with over 100,000 people on the waiting list knowing they will never come close to getting them, it forces cheeseheads to travel to see them play.
In Seattle, Tampa Bay, Miami, Arizona, Dallas (I was at that game in 2007), if tickets are available, and it's in a warm area, for sure the Packer nation is in full force.
Still, I rank Steelers fans higher because I know a lot of stupid Packer fans.

That actually is what happened in 1998 too when that team went 15-1.
Prior to that, and even early in that 1998 season, there were more Packer jersey wearing people in the Twin Cities than there were purple ones.
Games were still blacked out. Which means not sold out.
Randy Moss changed that.
Those people are the bandwagon kings of the world.
I know there are many great die hard legit Vikings fans, but they have the most popup bandwagon fans around. Actually, I think more of their greatest fans live out of the Twin Cities now, having fled south.
I know one who lives in Phoenix who still has season tickets and flies up there for 4 games a year. Great fan.

99% of the people in New Orleans hate the Saints and trash them if they aren't winning the Superbowl.
If you are talking about who can get the loudest and root the hardest when the team is good, we are up there. As far as knowledge on more than Drew Brees and Jeremy Shockey, or rooting for the team when they are less than 13-3, we rank very low.

I know what they mean, but the relationship between the Browns and Bengals is just different. Yea, there's a rivalry, but most fans don't have any hatred towards the Bengals since both teams were founded by Paul Brown.
It's just a shame his kid is a complete waste as an owner

Actually Jim Brown gave a speech to the Ravens before their Superbowl victory, so he's still somewhat affiliated with that franchise due to old relationships I'm sure.
But, anyways, you don't need to create a scenario for people to feel the passion of Green Bay fans when they lost a guy they had just spent roughly 20 years of their life watching.

I will never respect Favre again. He spat on his legacy here by actively trying to get revenge on the team and in turn the fanbase that made him who he is, paid him millions, and worshiped him like a god.... all over a childish mistake that was his own fault.
I am aware of everything he has done for us and what he means. I will always cherish the memories of what he did and I am grateful for the Super Bowl and all the winning seasons. But disliking Favre now doesn't make a Packer fan a bad fan. I couldn't be a more loyal fan. I bleed green and gold...and I find most other diehards are heart broken and bitter over Favre and always will be.
Itd be like your best friend of 17 years thinking you did him wrong some way, when in fact you really didn't...so to get him back he starts ******* your sister. All for nothing! Youd cherish the memories of that best friend sure, but youd hate his guts from then on.

I honestly think it's packers fans, simply because there is NOTHING else to do in Green Bay, especially on Sundays, the city shuts down. People turn their lawns into parking lots for the game, people start tailgating at about 6 in the morning. It's unreal. But if I have to pick a team that's not my team, I would probably say Saints fans. A lot of people hopped on the bandwagon this year, but the real tried and true Saints fans are great.

It's no different than Texas vs Oklahoma, Cowboys vs Redskins when both are good, etc. It's a true and bitter rivalry, and being border states, it means there are a lot of Packer fans in Purple Country, and I have actually spoken to a Vikings player about that before. They don't like it.
Besides, you guys actil like Farve brought the Packers 3 or 4 Super Bowls like a Montana or Bradshaw or Brady.
He got 1, thanks to Reggie White and Desmond Howard who were the game's 2 MVP's.

Here's a lesson WinslowBodden, and I won't charge you for it. But it's a one-time lesson so take notes.
No Browns fan can relate to what a Packer fan felt like when their once-beloved, former 3-time MVP QB fled to the darkside enemy Minnesota.
Don't tell us not to boo the guy. Had he returned to Lambeau in 2008 in a NY Jets uniform, it would have been a much different story.
#1- Browns fans have no idea how bitter that Packers-Vikings rivalry is because it's not an East Coast team so it never got it's just due in the media. Well it did of course when #4 went purple.
Die-Hard Packer fans (especially ones living in Minnesota) hate the Vikings, like I said. It's like Yankees-Red Sox, except we have guys tear ACL's in Minnesota every year which makes me hate them more. Barnett in 08, Will Blackmon last year.
#2- Don't tell Packer fans they can't boo the guy because "he brought us one Super Bowl."
That '96 Packers Super Bowl team would have won that game with Jim McMahon or Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson as the QB.
Farve was 14/27 in the game, and that defense was #1-ranked. Desmond Howard and Reggie White were the game's MVP's. Farve just didn't screw it up as he learned to do afterwards, which the Vikings got a taste of in New Orleans.
#3- 1965 was the last year the Browns were the kings of football as they were the reigning champions from winning the 1964 Championship. 1965 was their year to talk, their year of glory. They have not been at the top since, as well all know.....but remember, I volunteered the Browns fans as one of the best earlier in this thread, so let's not let WinslowBodden ruin all that.
In 1965, with NFL MVP Jim Brown leading the way once again with 17 Touchdowns and 1,544 yards rushing the Browns finish 11-3, and win the Eastern Conference by a full 4 games.
However, the Brown quest fore back-to-back NFL Championships would hit a wall in the Championship Game as the Browns lost 23-12 to the Packers in Green Bay.
So, to recap: Don't tell any Packer fans they shouldn't boo a guy in a Viking uniform. We booed Ryan Longwell, and Darren Sharper.
You don't think Sawx fans should have booed their former hero Johnny Damon when he went back to Fenway Pahk in Yankee pinstripes?
This is the point that pissed me off... WinslowBodden. He's wrong, and he has no clue because he has no idea about the Packer-Viking rivalry. Now he knows.

brett favre is not just a Darren Sharper or a Longwell.
Favre is one of the best QBs of all time, your QB for 20 years. Even if he didnt play well in the Superbowl, he was prolly one of the reasons reggie white came to green bay in the first place, seeing you already had a proven QB/Offense.
You make it sound like Favre is just any other scrub.

Uh........................ Maybe not Browns fans because all of our players end up sucking but I'm pretty sure Cleveland has had it happen before (more recently Jim Thome bolted in free agency after being the face of our franchise for years.)
The big difference being Favre actually won you guys a super bowl, constantly put you in the playoffs, and holds almost every passer record in the history of the NFL. I understand not wanting to root for Favre to do good, but to boo him rubbed me the wrong way.

Die-Hard Packer fans (especially ones living in Minnesota) hate the Vikings, like I said. It's like Yankees-Red Sox, except we have guys tear ACL's in Minnesota every year which makes me hate them more. Barnett in 08, Will Blackmon last year.
Yeah dude we have no idea what the rivalry of the Packers/Vikings is because this isn't a technological age and we don't have any idea what happens a couple states away. I'm only able to deliver this message via carrier pigeon. Don't lecture me on rivalries... We have a team that beats the **** out of us 1 state away that has always been our rivals yet we sell out every season and the win against them this year was celebrated like it was ******* christmas. Oh, we also have an instate rival and a team that stole our team and happens to be in our division. Like I said, I don't need you to hype up Vikings-Packers like I've never heard of it or act like it's any better than the dozen huge rivalries in the NFL.
#2- Don't tell Packer fans they can't boo the guy because "he brought us one Super Bowl."
That '96 Packers Super Bowl team would have won that game with Jim McMahon or Trent Dilfer or Brad Johnson as the QB.
... So a QB with 39 tds 13 ints and a 96 passer rating wasnt relevant at all?
K.
Farve was 14/27 in the game, and that defense was #1-ranked. Desmond Howard and Reggie White were the game's MVP's. Farve just didn't screw it up as he learned to do afterwards, which the Vikings got a taste of in New Orleans.
And you were just magically placed into the super bowl that year and played no games to get there? Did you pray to god and he answered you or did you find a magic lamp I'm curious, Browns fans could use one of those.
Oh wow I would be so dismayed that you would not consider Browns fans one of the best because of something I did. Do you think I honestly give a **** if you think Browns fans are better than anyone? I said I disliked Packers fans booing Favre and I know I'm not the only one considering half the stadium cheered him.
Yeah I remember that heart-breaking day in Cleveland Browns history 24 years before I was born, I still to this day haven't been able to get over it. Posting something as trash talk or whatever that was supposed to be more recent like you blasting us like 31-3 or whatever it was this year may have been a bit more effective.
Johnny Damon wasn't a 37 year old that was pushed out of the picture by a first round draft pick waiting in the wing that still had something in the tank and wanted to play. Damon also didn't break an astonishing amount of MLB records and play for the Red Sox for what seemed like a century.
This is the point that pissed me off... WinslowBodden. He's wrong, and he has no clue because he has no idea about the Packer-Viking rivalry. Now he knows.
You sir, have no clue.

I am a Packer fan and I know how much it stung when Favre left. It was a strange feeling, it's almost like seeing your father cheat on your mother with a really hot woman across the street, that you've always hated...except now when you go over to their house they let you stay up late and get drunk with your friends so you have all kinds of confused, mixed feelings....yah, I know that was convoluted but, so what...I digress.
The argument that you should have made winslowbodden is...YOUR FREAKIN' TEAM LEFT YOUR CITY!!! No other fan in the modern era except the few people who supported the Baltimore Colts in the 70's-80's can say they know how that feels.

that said, a lot of Texans fans are pretty cool, but a lot of them are still bigger Astros fans than any thing
actually there's loads of footb-- soccer teams in Europe who don't have a #12 jersey cause it's for the fans, frequently referred to as the 12th man. Makes more sense too because the whole team = 11 guys. Not 22, like a football team.

Not to mention that traditionally footb....soccer teams have their starting 11 numbered 1-11. 1 being the goalkeeper, 2-6 defense, 7, 8, 10 midfield, 9 and 11 attackers

I'm not arguing that browns fans are better than packers fans my whole point is that i disagree with the booing of brett favre after he put up a great career in green bay and was basically showed the door (and rightfully so, the Aaron Rodgers era needed to begin.) Favre signed with the best team he could A YEAR AFTER playing with another team...

I was with you for a moment, but if there was a really hot girl living across the street I don't see why you would always hate her? Pretty sure it be the exact opposite.

I corrected your 5-3-2 into a 4-4-2 cuz it's more common, but you're absolutely right. Traditionally fo--soccer players are numbered 1-11. For football players the 12 has no special significance. So it's a soccer tradition, not a football thing.

i went to a jets-packers game (my bro's a packers fan) a couple years back. it was awesome. my grandpa was wearing a Notre Dame jacket. some guy saw him, struck up conversation and offered to buy him a beer. i was wearing a huge Giants coat, and the guys struck up conversation about their big game later that day against Dallas. They didn't care who I was rooting for (but I made sure they knew it was green bay). just an awesome time. when that offense was in the huddle, you could hear a ******* pin drop. so impressive. most other fans are making noise and **** and messing up their own team's offense. Just had a great time there overall.

It has nothing to do with the fact that Ohio is infested with bandwagon Steelers fans that have no idea what they're talking about don't watch half the games yet talk **** an insane amount of times?
Like I said earlier, I have had people talk **** to me who didn't know who Cowher or Bettis are.
Yeah... And it's like that alot around here... When the Steelers hired Tomlin I was on pitts website for some reason and there was a white guy on the page and the lady goes HEH THATS THE NEW STEELERS COACH.
Not to mention half the ass holes that go to the Browns/Steelers game in Browns stadium are absolute idiots.
The hardcore fan base is good but its plagued by the **** bandwagon fans.

I dont think the Broncos fans should be included. It shits me everytime when I am taking a leak at the stadium or in a bar after watching a loss and some drunk bloke in an elway jersey tells me we would have won if elway was still playing.

Yeah and don't get me wrong, Steelers fans are very supportive of their team and love the Steelers but it's impossible to me to rate their fans without considering their bandwagon following. When people say "Oh wow there are so many Steelers fans, they travel so well etc." There are an absolute **** load of Steelers fans that are just bandwagon fans in many cities... Let me give an example.
I have a guy I work with that wore a Browns Winslow jersey to work one day and a Roethlisberger the next, and he said he's going to make his mind up over winter what hes a fan of but people need to persuade him, I told him to "Shove it up his ass and never show up with Browns stuff on ever again."
Another common theme when I go on vacation is I see a ton of Steelers merchandise because there are so many Steelers fans in this country (Myrtle Beach is absolutely huge.) But there is no way in hell that they are all legit fans, so when considering an entire fan base, you unfortunately have to consider the bandwagon fans. You find loyalty and dedication when your team struggles, which the Steelers never tend to do.
Living in Ohio, we get the worst of the Steelers bandwagon crowd, believe me when I say that.
