Posted this in the other "how many does he deserve" thread but this deserves its own.

Wow, 6. I expected 4.

It can be reduced or extended. Oakland better make the move and go get him.

I like how the NFL suspends people even when they arent found guilty of anything.

Goodell is serious about protecting the NFL's image and with that is acting accordingly. Yes these guys are famous athletes but with that comes a trade off of fame and money and the loss of a "normal" life. These guys signed the contracts and cash the checks so I for one don't weep for them. This idiot is putting himself into situations where likely if he wasn't a famous athlete he would be in jail or at the worst facing serious charges. Yes we are a system of innocence is presumed until found guilty, but we are also a system that can make logical inferences about people who continue a pattern of wrong behavior with no regard for the laws of the land or image of they're respected employers.

Michael Vick had a 6 game suspension last year which he got reduced to 2 games.

So do I. These players are able to use their money to get them out of trouble, so the NFL can't afford to wait on the legal process to run it's course. These players can hire lawyers who can keep delaying trials, pay off people, etc. Just look at the Roethlisberger situation: Funny how the video conveniently got "recorded over". Riiiiiiight...like nobody thought to take a look at the footage and save it.

If they don't trade him & stick with the QBs they have the only Steelers win in that 1st 6 could well be Tampa Bay. 1-5, talk about panic button time by October......

EDIT -- Just saw the 6 games on ESPN & noted the Browns are their 5th game, so revise that to 2-4.

If Polamalu is back and playing well and they have a good offseason (other than this circus obviously) I bet they can start 3-3 without Roethlisberger.

I love how everyone always thinks that the only reason they arent getting jail is because they are famous. My little brother violated his probation 4 times and not once saw a day in jail. Even one of the lawyers in the court room was like "In 20 years of working I have not seen someone in so much trouble not get jail time."

This **** is too ******* stupid. Roger Goodell is such a power hungry asshole. Big Ben wasn't even charged. If I go to the media and say I was raped by Adrian Peterson, is he gonna get suspended?

The NFL wants to control people's life...but for millions of dollars I think it's worth the trade off to use some common sense.

It will be reduced to 4 games so it isn't to bad. I wish we played them in week 5 though. I hate to have to listen to Steelers fans say the only reason we won is because Ben wasn't playing.

I get that he wants to stand up, and that this is a classic case of the suggestion being there. But six games might be a little rich I agree.

The system is flawed and no one disagrees with that. The fact that he is famous is a legitimate theory in this event because it makes people less willing to cooperate with authorities, he has the means to hire counsel that for example your brother could never dream of obtaining, along with a number of other factors that I don't care to keep listing.

It depends on if you are falling-over-yourself drunk and he takes you into a room and you have sex. Then maybe.

A stretched vagina with jism in it wasnt good enough for that podunk medical examiner in Georgia to say it was rape. I think they gave a pass to a household name pro athlete.

**** Big Ben. Six is good enough for me though. Cincinnati should have him primetime one of his first games back. My least favorite person in football.

Would they have to measure Peterson to get an idea of how stretched said anus will be? this is going too far.....

with AD you'd pretty much need a crater-sized pooper, not only does he look like he's got a lotta meat hanging down there, but he literally pounds all day. I'm just sayin'

Well to be honest, you most likely dont need to have any sign of penetration, its been made pretty clear that if your accused of anything and proven innocent, you will still get a suspension just for someone bringing up your name and saying you did a no no. I mean, its clear if someone says you did something illegal your at fault for putting yourself in that situation. ;)

Ray Lewis could of murdered a man and at the very least knows who did and inhibited justice by not talking. Which would make him an accomplice.

Jamal Lewis was caught drug trafficing like he was scar face and doesn't get suspended.

Michael Vick kills and tortures dogs for his amusement and only gets four games.

What do these people have in common. All were officially charged and found guilty of crimes and all are african american.

Ben Roethlsberger is white and has been accused but not found guilty nor been charged with a crime but gets a six game suspension. This is the NFL holding a white player to a different standard.

Ok what? Vick was the only one under Goodells time to get into trouble. Also, Vick was actually suspended from the game indefinitely. This argument is moot.

Chris Henry was suspended for eight games in 2007 for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

In 2006 Odell Thurman was suspended for 4 games and then later suspended for the rest of the season.

Tank Johnson was suspended for shooting a gun into the air or something like that, Deuce McCalister, Pac Man, Donte Stallworth, etc etc etc etc.

I really don't know how you can pull the race card on this.

Bryant McKinnie was suspended 4 games for fighting with a bouncer, and vick missed 2 seasons of football. Jared Allen also got a 4 game suspension that was later reduced to 2 for multiple DUI's. If Roethlisberger does everything Goodell wants him to it's only going to be a 4 game suspension anyway.

me too, he wasn't really all that bad. Im sure the steelers gave him very little to do, but he needs to learn sometime.

Ben got what he deserved and anyone who thinks this is unfair is a homer. I don't want to hear this crap that he got a raw deal because someone can just accuse you of something and automatically get suspended.

There are plenty of pro athletes that go out and party, drink, hook up with girls and don't end up like Ben. In addition to all of this is the fact this isn't the 1st time this has happened.

Ben's a dbag and the Steelers would be very wise to trade him, no shot of a top 10 pick though.

Good. It should have been 10 games.

this is completely irrelevant. 'innocent until proven guilty' is an issue in the courts, and in criminal trials, but does not, has not and will literally never have anything to do with private business.

(i know that wasn't necessarily your argument)

I agree with you entirely.

I was just trying to explain that criminal charges are not a condition to warrant a suspension. The NFL's code of conduct warns of possible suspensions based off of perceived bad behavior, summarizing obviously, and by signing NFL contracts these athletes are agreeing to the terms.

This seems like a pretty fair suspension. I personally would have probably done eight games but four is alright with me. There's no way he actually sits out all six.

When is the Steelers first prime time game? I know they don't have one in their first 6.

Edit: Week 8. So it would be his first game back (they have a bye week 5).

Yeah but he will probably come back after 4, which is vs. the Browns.

FordFairlane's assertion about the race card here is a good use of my 2,000th post: His assertion is pure bullcrap.

Leonard Little is the worst case -- most DL have stats like TFLs & sacks, that ************ has a body count. Killed 2 people with his vehicle while drunk, yet he's the starting DE for the St. Louis Sheep as of last yr. & oh yeah he's black too..... go figure.

Michael Vick kills and tortures dogs for his amusement and only gets four games.

Vick did 2 yrs. in a freaking Federal prison (including Leavenworth) for his Federal crimes. Goodell should've imposed a lifetime ban for that IMO, did not happen, he's black too. I actually believe the theory that he was let back in the NFL last yr. to earn enough $ to pay his lawyers. If I had my way he would have died in prison.

And if I had my way Big Ben would miss all of 2010 in the NFL. Indicted or not, the guy's a serial rapist & a menace to society. And he's white & it doesn't matter.
