The day is upon us, and we are less than 18 hours from the start of the draft!

Post your reactions to the Eagles picks (and picks that may affect the Eagles draft, if you wish) in here. Don't do anything to get suspended or banned!

I think Earl Thomas is a lock.

Wow...interesting..was definitely expecting us to get Thomas with that pick

Holy ****! Brandon Graham? With Earl Thomas on the board?

We did not need to move up this high for him. JPP and Morgan were also still available.

Darryl Tapp, Jaqua Parker, Victor Abiramiri, and Brandon Graham. Thats one crowded ass depth chart.

Time to pray McCourty falls.

Wow. One thing is for sure, Brandon Graham can bring the heat. Great player.

A little surprised, but I really like it. The Eagles must see the value at secondary in the second round. Keeping both second rounders is great though.

I'm not as upset as I would have been had they drafted JPP, but I really wanted Earl Thomas.

They need to pray that Nate Allen or Devin McCourty/Kareem Jackson falls to them at pick #37.

Morgan Burnett is a guy I really, really like, and fits the defense well. I wouldn't be surprised if he was the pick at 37, Nate Allen either.

What are the chances Taylor Mays last until #37? Not good?

It is definitely possible. I'd say its more likely he is there at 37 than he is gone.

How about Dez and Miles Austin on a team, and don't forget Witten? With no physical corners on the Eagles roster now what?

I think the Eagles are going to be looking CB with a Chris Cook or Jerome Murphy. Cook doesn't have the strength you'd want right now, but he has the frame to build it up and be a very physical corner. I think Jerome Murphy would be the better CB for the Eagles, fits the scheme better, as he has more strength, is able to get the jam, supports the run, and is a good tackler.

Now who do we go after at #55?

Now who do we go after at #55?

Brandon Ghee, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Dominique Franks, Brandon Spikes, Jamar Chaney, and Sean Lee have to be on the board.

Love it too. I think Jerome Murphy is the top target for the team, as well as the others mentioned.

Good trade value for the eagles, even if it is with dallas.

I think they might have wanted Ben Tate, but Houston sniped him right before us.

Hope they end up with Ghee or Murphy at #71.

I think u might b right. I'm pretty sure the eagles will move up into the late second or back into the third with their fourth and fifth rounders.

Daniel Te'o-Nesheim is being moved to SLB after playing DE at Washington, an Eagles scout says he is similar to Gocong as a player. Great...

Anyways another high motor, great intangibles pick by the Eagles.

By the way I am not a huge Nate Allen fan and I don't see a ton of upside there but he should be a solid starter for a while. I would've preffered Morgan Burnett at #55 but w/e Nate Allen is a good player who is intelligent and is an extremely well rounded safety.

Oh and we have 9 picks for tomorrow, 6 in the first 41.

Also I just read Andy Reid said Nate Allen can play corner. Oh god. Andy please don't be stupid.

I like Burnett because he is more of a complete Safety, but its obvious the Eagles aren't going to be relying on him against the run with the front 7 being put in place as it is... If the front 7 works as it should, Allen has mmore value than Burnett would, as Allen has a bit more range and is a little more of a playmaker once the ball is in the air.

I do not understand the Daniel Te'o-Nesheim pick at all. At least Gocong was a freak athlete at his size.

Also, why is Everson Griffen still on the board?

I'd imagine the stigma about USC DEs is hurting him a little bit. I would've thought he have been off the board mid 2 at worst. There may be some health issues or something we don't know about, as that was the case for a few guys dropping.

DTN will be a DE, not SLB, those reports were wrong.

That makes that pick even worse!

Why would we make one of our deepest positions even deeper? Especially when Austen Lane, Corey Wootton, and Everson Griffen, all superior prospects, are still available.

And DTN isn't a freak athlete? He ran a 4.73 40 time, he is 6'4" and 265 pounds, he has a 37" vertical (second highest at the combine), a 10'01" broad jump, a 4.18 shuttle time which is off the charts and third best at the combine (only notable higher was Jerry Hughes) and if I remember his 10 yard split was really good as well.

Because DTN fits the Eagles scheme better. I see DTN ultimately ending up at RE due to his style of play. Wootton may end up going to a 3-4 team due to his size, and even if he stays the same, will end up a LE, which the Eagles don't need. Not to mention Wootton's style of play doesn't fit with the defense at all. Griffen, IDK, something is up with him that we don't know about yet, and he is a LE anyway. And Lane is not a superior prospect to DTN. DTN was talked about possibly going in the second round, did you see anyone saying the same for Lane?

eaglesalltheway
04-23-2010, 10:24 PM
I'm not going to defend it blindly like a homer, but, outside of Ansah and Norwood, DTN may have been the best value for the Eagles there.

Plus his core strength is great, he has a strong base and he is actually really strong. He was arguably the best DE at the combine in terms of workout numbers.

Gocong:
6′2⅛″, 263 lb
4.70 forty
1.61 ten yard split
2.74 twenty yard split
7.06 3 cone
42 in. vertical
10′5″ broad jump
28 rep bench press
4.09 short shuttle
36 wonderlic

I like how that pic shows the O-linemen giving us the textbook example for holding, lol. As a former linemen, not his proudest moment, I can tell you that.

Fact of the matter is that DTN will have a TREMENDOUSLY hard time finding ANY playing time, outside of special teams, if he does make the roster. I also remember Bryan Smith being an "excellent fit" to our system. He, like DTN, was also a 3rd pick.

While I'm on the subject though, I would put Everson Griffen at RDE in a heartbeat. His speed coming off the edge would make him a great fit. Lane is also pretty versatile, but I agree on Wootton.

I just have a hard time understanding why DE is getting so much attention this offseason. We've added three players to our DE rotation, and only took one away. Our DE's weren't even the weakness of this dline.

Thumper
04-23-2010, 10:34 PM
DTN is about 30 pounds heavier than Smith was, is coming from a D-I school where he played against the top talent in the Pac-10. He is also infinitely stronger. He is nothing like Smith, not even close.

We also have no business having 9 more draft picks (two of which are compensatory) when we wont be using most of them (probably 5) and they're all late round picks. Sometimes I feel like the Eagles try too hard to find that diamond in the rough, a la Trent Cole, Brian Westbrook, etc.

brat316
04-23-2010, 11:46 PM
SO is he playing RDE or SLB? Cause if he is a Lb fail, if the Eagles ran a 3-4 then it would be fine to play him at olb.

According to SackSEER, he won't be a bust. Well actually sackSEER predicts bust better than non bust.

DTN is rated as a late rounder/FA on almost every web site Mayock hated the pick and gave us a 2.0 grade on it. I cant understand why he is rated so low he has the production he has the combine numbers it doesn't make sense to me.

It's ok to hate one this one. He has regressed each of the past two years and was demolished at the Senior Bowl. Some people thought he was a 6th-7th rounder at best.

He has speed and confidence issues.

Hey, what a surprise. Another terrible pick.

Keenan Clayton OLB Oklahoma. Projected 7th round pick to FA. Small Linebacker.

Could have gotten Cam Thomas or Eric Norwood.

Not a huge fan of Mike Kafka, probably wouldnt have been my ideal QB pick, but I'll take it.

This has gotten ridiculous. Three DE's, one CB, one S, and one QB. I'm also so giddy with excitement about the rest of our late round picks being used on offensive lineman.
