Mock v1.6

ROUND 1

1. Oakland Raiders – QB Jamarcus Russell – LSU
I keep going back and forth on this pick as both Calvin Johnson and Russell would make great picks for the Raiders. After Russell’s impressive pro day, he has probably moved himself a little bit ahead of Johnson on the Raiders’ list. However, if Johnson comes through with an equally impressive pro day tomorrow, he could steal Russell’s momentum.

2. Detroit Lions – QB Brady Quinn – Notre Dame
The Lions are trying to trade down but we all know how hard it is to trade down from this high of a pick. Quinn seems to have a lot of momentum going into the draft and he is a guy who could be the face of the franchise whereas Joe Thomas seems like he will be a solid OT but maybe not much more.

3. Cleveland Browns – HB Adrian Peterson – Oklahoma
With both QBs off the board, this pick becomes a lot easier for the Browns, who need major help in their backfield. Peterson is a rare prospect who should be an elite running back at the NFL level and rejuvenate a stagnant Cleveland offense.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – WR Calvin Johnson – Georgia Tech
Calvin is the best prospect in this draft, yet it looks like he could fall to 4th based on the needs of the top 3 teams. The Bucs wouldn’t even imagine passing on him.

5. Arizona Cardinals – OT Joe Thomas – Wisconsin
The Cardinals have to be just hoping Thomas falls to them. He is a blue chip LT prospect and fills what is by far the Cards biggest need.

6. Washington Redskins – DE Gaines Adams – Clemson
The Redskins’ pass-rush was the worst in the league last year and a pure pass-rusher like Adams is exactly what they need.

7. Minnesota Vikings – S Laron Landry – LSU
Aside from Peterson, Landry is the best player available and with Sharper aging and Dwight Smith leaving something to be desired, the Vikings bolster their secondary whose play last year was a big part of the reason they had one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

8. Houston Texans – DT Amobi Okoye – Louisville
The Texans are extremely weak and it seems that Okoye may have passed Branch as the top DT prospect.

9. Miami Dolphins – CB Leon Hall – Michigan
This seems a little high for Hall, but after all he has been the top CB prospect all along and he ran a sub 4.4 at the combine so he could go top 10. CB is always looked at as a premium position and the Dolphins need one and I’m hearing more and more buzz that Hall will go in this area of the draft.

10. Atlanta Falcons – DE Jamaal Anderson – Arkansas
With Kerney gone and Abraham being a constant injury concern, the Falcons need to bring in help at DE. Anderson is the kind of solid performer the Falcons need on their defense.

11. San Francisco 49ers – DE Adam Carriker – Nebraska
The 49ers addressed most their needs through FA but they still need help at DL and Carriker is a rare player who is perfectly fit to play in the 3-4.

12. Buffalo Bills – MLB Patrick Willis – Ole Miss
The Bills let London Fletcher walk because they wanted a MLB who would be a tougher in-the-box run defender and after impressive workouts, Willis to the Bills seems like a great fit. However, with McGahee in Baltimore, the Bills could opt to pick Lynch. However, it would be hard to understand the Bills trading away their franchise back for a couple third round picks and then using their first rounder on another back. It makes more sense for the Bills to address HB later in the draft.

13. St. Louis Rams – DT Alan Branch – Michigan
Branch’s stop appears to be slipping, mainly due to questions about his work ethic. However, the Rams won’t be able to pass on talent like that at a position of need.

14. Carolina Panthers – TE Greg Olsen - Miami
Olsen has been one of the most impressive prospects in post-season workouts and with the Panthers making major changes to their offensive system and needing a pass-catching TE, Olsen is hard to pass on.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers – OLB Lawrence Timmons – Florida St.
Timmons is a great fit for the Steelers because they are thin at LB and are gradually making a switch from the 3-4 to the 4-3. Timmons has the versatility to play in both systems and would be a good start for Tomlin as he starts to bring in young talent to a defense that he will try to switch to the cover 2.

16. Green Bay – HB Marshawn Lynch – California
With Ahman Green gone, the Packers have a gaping need at HB and a player like Lynch would be near-impossible to pass up.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars – FS Reggie Nelson – Florida
The Jaguars let Deon Grant walk in FA and need to bring in a playmaking FS and Nelson certainly fits the bill.

18. Cincinnati Bengals – CB Darrelle Revis – Pittsburgh
The Bengals are in need of another starter at CB and Revis has the talent and skills to come in and start.

19. Tennessee Titans – WR Ted Ginn – Ohio St.
The Titans have been trying all off-season to bring in a speedy WR but they have failed to bring one in. Ginn can stretch the field as well as anyone and he figures to be a premier big play threat for an offense that lacks one.

20. New York Giants – OLB Paul Poluzny – Penn St.
Everything I’m hearing is that the Giants will be looking for an OLB in the first round and while this may seem a little early for Poluzny, he is exactly the type of player Coughlin likes and if you look at his combine numbers and his junior season, he is worth the pick.

21. Denver Broncos – DE Jarvis Moss – Florida
The Broncos need to add a pass-rusher above all else and Moss is the top edge rusher available. While the Broncos host a rotation of capable ends, none can wreak havoc like Moss.

22. Dallas Cowboys – WR Robert Meachem – Tennessee
Owens and Glenn are both aging and there’s good reason to believe Owens will only play one more year in Dallas. The Cowboys don’t have any major needs outside of safety, but unless they want to make a move for Merriweather or Griffin, they might end up picking a good young WR who can help them in the future.

23. Kansas City Chiefs – WR Dwayne Bowe – LSU
The Chiefs need to add a productive wideout and Bowe has been very impressive this whole off-season and would finally give the Chiefs a true no. 1 receiver.

24. New England Patriots – S Brandon Merriweather – Miami
Rodney Harrison is soon to retire and the Patriots have to be looking to bolster their secondary with this pick. Word is the Patriots are interested in Merriweather, a versatile player who can help at both S and CB who will certainly improve their coverage unit.

25. New York Jets – CB Aaron Ross – Texas
One thing the Jets are looking for is a top flight corner as they currently have an abundance of mediocre players at the position. They also need to add a pass-rusher but there are a number of potential hybrid backers who can be had in the 2nd round so it’s best for them to move for a CB now.

26. Philadelphia Eagles – S Michael Griffin – Texas
Sean Considine did not do a great job filling in for Michael Lewis last year, especially when it came to defending the run. The Eagles could us an upgrade at the SS position and also need to think about a future replacement for Dawkins, who can’t play forever. Griffin is a versatile safety who can help this team for years to come.

27. New Orleans Saints – CB Chris Houston – Arkansas
Houston is probably the best man-to-man corner in this league which makes him a great fit for the Saints who often leave their CBs in single coverage and badly need to replace Fred Thomas.

28. New England Patriots – HB Brian Leonard – Rutgers
The Patriots are suddenly thin at HB after giving Dillon his walking papers. Leonard would bring a power running game and is the kind of versatile player the Patriots like. This is obviously a little bit of a reach but the Patriots don’t pick again until the third round and they have never been afraid to reach for a player they wanted.

29. Baltimore Ravens – OT Levi Brown – Penn St.
Tony Pashos walked in FA and Ogden is unlikely to play more than one more season. Adam Terry will likely assume a starting role, but OT is still a pressing need for the Ravens and Brown would be a great fit in this power running offense.

30. San Diego Chargers – WR Sydney Rice – South Carolina
The Chargers need help at wideout as they don’t have much beyond Vincent Jackson and Eric Parker and neither is a true no. 1 receiver. Rice doesn’t have top end speed but he is a great talent and a very natural receiver who deserves to be picked in the first round.

31. Chicago Bears – WR Dwayne Jarrett – USC
Muhsin Muhammad doesn’t have much left in the tank and the Bears’ receivers as a group are solid but unspectacular. They could use a go-to player like Muhammad.

32. Indianapolis Colts – DT Justin Harrell – Tennessee
Even though they tightened it up in the playoffs, the Colts’ run D was a major problem and they will be looking to add a player to the interior of their line to help the cause. Word is they are high on Harrell, whose stock is very high right now.

ROUND 2

33. Oakland Raiders – OT Joe Staley – Central Michigan
The Raiders didn’t sign any OTs in this draft and need help there. They are switching to the ZBS and moving Gallery to RT, meaning they need to add an athletic LT prospect, which is exactly what Staley is.

34. Detroit Lions – DE Anthony Spencer – Purdue
The Lions are looking to improve their pass-rush and Spencer is an excellent edge-rusher who should fit into the cover 2 quite nicely.

35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – C Ryan Kalil – USC
The Bucs continue their O-line overhaul by picking up this stud center.

36. Cleveland Browns – OL Aaron Sears – Tennessee
The Browns have been working hard to upgrade their OL in FA, but it still needs some work and Sears could give some immediate help at both OG and RT.

37. Chicago Bears (f/ WAS thru NYJ) – OLB Jon Beason – Miami
Briggs says he has played his last snap for the Bears and depth at LB will be needed and possibly a replacement for Briggs. Beason is a perfect fit for the cover 2 and would be a great pickup for the Bears.

38. Arizona Cardinals – DE Charles Johnson – Georgia
The Cardinals need to add a pass-rusher and Crowder is a player who has been exceptional in workouts and I believe he will go higher than most expect.

39. Houston Texans – OT Tony Ugoh – Arkansas
With Charles Spencer facing a potentially career ending injury, the Texans have a gaping hole at LT and it would be hard to pass on a prospect like Ugoh here.

40. Miami Dolphins – OG Ben Grubbs – Auburn
The Dolphins OL clearly need some work and Grubbs would represent a very nice value here considering he is widely expected to come off the board in the 1st.

41. Minnesota Vikings – WR Anthony Gonzalez – Ohio St.
WR is the Vikings biggest need and Gonzalez is the kind of high character guy Childress likes and he would be a great fit in their offense.

42. San Francisco 49ers – WR Craig Davis – LSU
The 49ers cut Antonio Bryant and have a major need at WR. Davis ran a sub 4.4 40 at his pro day and is a very solid value here. Davis can stretch the field but also is a complete receiver, which is exactly what the 49ers need in whatever wideout they draft.

43. Buffalo Bills – WR Jason Hill – Washington St.
The Bills need to add a receiver to start opposite Lee Evans and Hill is a natural receiver who can step right into the starting role and he displayed he has the speed to play in the Bills’ offense, which calls for speedy WRs.

44. Atlanta Falcons – FS Eric Weddle – Utah
The Falcons need a coverage safety who brings playmaking to the table, making Weddle a great fit.

45. Carolina Panthers – QB Drew Stanton – Michigan St.
Stanton has pretty much cemented himself as the third QB in the draft and the Panthers don’t have a good backup and have to have questions about if they want to have Delhomme starting for them much longer considering his incredible inconsistency.

46. Pittsburgh Steelers – OG Kevin Blalock – Texas
The Steelers offensive line needs a bit of an overhaul and Blalock is the kind of powerful run blocker the Steelers like.

47. Green Bay Packers – WR Steve Smith – USC
WR is clearly a need for the Packers and Smith has done a good job boosting his stock at the workouts and would be a good fit. However, it is looking more and more like the Packers will be trading this pick to the Raiders for Randy Moss, which would eliminate their need at WR.

48. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE Victor Abiamiri – Notre Dame
The Jaguars could really benefit by adding another pass-rusher and Abiamiri would be a very solid pick here.

49. Cincinnati Bengals – OLB Justin Durant – Hampton
This may seem a little high for Durant but after Willis, Timmons, Posluszny and Beason, any LB could be the next to go. Durant is a great fit at WLB for the Bengals and he has the speed Marvin Lewis likes. The Bengals also have no 3rd round pick so now is the time to address LB. If Durant is their guy, now is the time to take him.

50. Tennessee Titans – HB Antonio Pittman – Ohio St.
After losing Travis Henry and Chris Brown, the Titans have only Lendale White in their backfield. And with White not having proven at all that he can carry the load, the Titans need to bring in another back to complement him.

51. New York Giants – CB Eric Wright – UNLV
The Giants have a big need at CB where they lack depth and their starters are both coming off disappointing seasons.

52. St. Louis Rams – OLB Stewart Bradley – Nebraska
The Rams need to add a SLB to help their run D and solidify their LB core. Bradley is the most pure SLB in this draft and he is a great fit for the Rams.

53. Dallas Cowboys – CB Marcus McCauley – Fresno St.
The Cowboys need to add a DB of some kind on day one of this draft. There’s a lot of uncertainty about how their lineup will be, as Pat Watkins may or may not be starting and Anthony Henry might move to FS, but its clear that improving the secondary is a top priority for the Cowboys.

54. Kansas City Chiefs – DT Quinn Pittock – Ohio St.
The Chiefs are looking to improve themselves at the DT position and Pittock is a great value here and a very consistent performer.

55. Seattle Seahawks – TE Zach Miller – Arizona St.
It doesn’t look like Jeremy Stevens is coming back and while the Hawks signed Marcus Pollard to a one year deal that is only a temporary solution and the Seahawks use an offense where the TE position is of high importance.

56. Denver Broncos – WR Aundrae Ellison – East Carolina
The Broncos are somewhat thin at WR and could use a WR with speed to stretch the field and return skills.

57. Philadelphia Eagles – DE Tim Crowder – Texas
The Eagles are looking to bolster depth at DE and Crowder is a solid all-around performer who can play the run and rush the passer.

58. New Orleans Saints – LB Buster Davis – Florida St.
The Saints signed Simmons but still need some help at LB and Buster Davis is the kind of high character, pure football player Sean Payton likes. Davis’ natural position is MLB but he could move to OLB if need be.

59. New York Jets – DT DeMarcus Tyler – NC State
The Jets need a NT and Tyler is the best NT prospect in this draft and he would be a great fit for the Jets.

60. Miami Dolphins (f/ NE) – DE Ray McDonald – Florida
The Dolphins need to add some young lineman and McDonald is a great fit as a 3-4 DE.

61. Baltimore Ravens – CB Josh Wilson – Maryland
The Ravens need to add some young talent at CB and Wilson is exactly the kind of tough, athletic player the Ravens like.

62. San Diego Chargers – S John Wendling – Wyoming
The Chargers need to add a safety to start alongside McCree and Wendling is a workout warrior who would be hard to pass on at this juncture of the draft.

63. New York Jets (f/ CHI) – OLB Quentin Moses – Georgia
The Jets need to add a rush-backer and Moses seems like he’s destined for that role.

64. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (f/ IND) – DE Lamarr Woodley – Michigan
The Bucs need to add a pass-rusher considering they lost Dewayne Wight and Simeon Rice won’t be around much longer.

ROUND 3

65. Oakland Raiders – TE Ben Patrick – Delaware
The Raiders failed to address the TE position in FA and with all the top pass-rushers off the board, they opt to address a somewhat lesser need.

66. Detroit Lions – CB Daymeion Hughes – California
The Lions need to overhaul their CB position as they switch to the cover 2 and after running a 4.65 in the 40, it seems like Hughes will have to play in the cover 2.

67. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DT Brandon Mebane
The Bucs front 4 is not what it once was and they badly need to improve its talent level. Mebane is an excellent fit for the cover 2 and could be an immediate starter.

68. Cleveland Browns – CB Fred Bennett – South Carolina
Depth is a major issue for the Browns at CB as Gary Baxter can’t shake the injury bug and they lack good backups.

69. Arizona Cardinals – OLB Rufus Alexander – Oklahoma
The Cardinals need to bring in an OLB to start next to Dansby and Hayes and Alexander would be a good fit at WLB.

70. Denver Broncos (f/ WAS) – OT James Marten – Boston College
After trading the disappointing George Foster, the Broncos will need a new starter at RT and Marten could be a good be a good fit.

71. Miami Dolphins – QB Trent Edwards – Stanford
The Dolphins need to add a QB because Culpepper is the only QB they have right now and depending on him is very risky. Edwards could be their starter of the future and he will play the important role of backup QB right away.

72. Minnesota Vikings – DE Brian Robinson – Texas
The Vikings pass-rush was a major problem last year and Robinson is coming off an incredible combine and could be the edge rusher they need.

73. Houston Texans – QB Troy Smith – Ohio St.
Troy Smith should fit well into a Kubiak offense that uses a lot of bootlegs that can take advantage of his mobility and ability to throw on the run and at the same time stop his lack of height from hindering him.

74. Buffalo Bills – HB Kenny Irons – Auburn
The Bills traded McGahee without having a backup plan in place at running back which means they will need to turn to the draft for a replacement.

75. Atlanta Falcons – HB Michael Bush – Louisville
Bush is Petrino’s guy from college and with the Falcons in need of a power back we can expect the Falcons to target him.

76. San Francisco 49ers – C Doug Datish – Ohio St.
Having already addressed their most pressing needs in FA, the 49ers can afford to make a pick like this that adds depth to their line.

77. Pittsburgh Steelers – HB Tony Hunt – Penn St.
The Steelers re-signed Davenport but he was unimpressive last season and the Steelers will be looking to add a better power back.

78. Green Bay Packers – SS Aaron Rouse – Virginia Tech
The Packers need an upgrade at SS, where Marquand Manuel showed last year he is nothing more than an addition.

79. Jacksonville Jaguars – OLB Quincy Black – New Mexico
Having no pressing needs, the Jaguars have the luxury of being able to pick a developmental prospect like Black who adds needed depth at LB.

Cincinnati Bengals – Forfeited Pick

80. Tennessee Titans – CB Jonathan Wade – Tennessee
With Adam Jones being a big question mark at this point and not a lot of quality depth behind him, the Titans need to address the CB position day one.

81. New York Giants – DT Kareem Brown – Miami
The Giants have a group of unspectacular DTs with no real standouts and Brown has great potential and could be a major upgrade over the likes of William Joseph.

83. St. Louis Rams – HB Lorenzo Booker – Florida St.
The Rams have their workhorse in Steven Jackson, but in this league it’s important to have more than one back and the Rams have no good backups. Booker would make an excellent change of pace back.

84. Carolina Panthers – MLB David Harris – Michigan
Dan Morgan struggles with injuries seem to be constant and he is probably not the long term solution in the middle.

85. Kansas City Chiefs – CB Tarell Brown – Texas
The Chiefs’ starting CBs are both aging and depth is a major issue.

86. Seattle Seahawks – OG Josh Beekman – Boston College
The Seahawks are thin at OG and there are questions about if either Rob Sims are Floyd Womack are starting quality.

87. Denver Broncos – S Sabby Piscitelli – Oregon St.
The Broncos biggest need may lie at the safety and it would be hard for them to let the first day go by without picking one up.

88. Dallas Cowboys – K Mason Crosby – Colorado
The kicking game really hurt the Cowboys last year and they will want to snag Crosby or Medlock in this draft.

89. New Orleans Saints – DE Ikaika Alama-Francis – Hawaii
Charles Grant got franchised and may not have a long term future with the team so the Saints would be smart to prepare for his departure now considering how they are thin at DE after Grant and Smith.

90. New York Jets – OG Marshall Yanda – Iowa
The Jets need to add an OG and Yanda would be a nice addition to the interior of their line.

91. Philadelphia Eagles – MLB Anthony Waters – Clemson
The Eagles’ LBs did not meet expectations last year and it is a spot that needs some major attention.

92. New England Patriots – ILB Brandon Siler – Florida
The Patriots need to add depth at ILB, where Bruschi is aging and is no longer an every-down player.

93. Buffalo Bills (f/ BAL) – CB Tanard Jackson – Syracuse
Jackson is a great fit for the cover 2 and after losing Clements the Bills need to bring in some talent at CB.

94. San Diego Chargers – ILB Zack DeOssie – Brown
With Donnie Edwards gone and Godfrey sure to retire in the near future, depth is needed at ILB.

95. Chicago Bears – S Josh Gattis – Wake Forest
Mike Brown can’t seem to stay healthy and they also lost Todd Johnson so they could really use a special teams standout who can step into the starting lineup if need be.

96. Indianapolis Colts – HB Darius Walker – Notre Dame
The Colts need to bring in a back to share the load with Addai, who is not a workhorse back. Walker is a good receiver and blocker, which is key to playing in the Colt offense, making him a good fit.

I think we´d go LG before LT in the 2nd round.. mainly because we have Sims who is ok at LT, but we have no one at LG.

and didnt Cleveland acquire Jamal Lewis?

Barry Sims is gar-bage and he will be out of here soon and besides we need the depth badly, who do we have as backups at OT? We got Boothe and McQuistan and I expect Grove to play some OG for us. Not to mention Staley is a perfect fit for the ZBS and a much better prospect than any OG in this draft. I could live with Grubbs, but Staley makes a lot more sense.

And if you think the Browns signing Jamal Lewis', who is completely over the hill, to a 1 year take them out of the market for a back, youre trippin.

1. Sims is not ¨garbage¨ at LT, he was at LG though. He had a nice year in 2005 playing LT and in 2004 for the few time he played.

2. I do think Lewis΄ contract is enough to not draft Peterson, and fill another need. Maybe they are targeting some RB in later rounds or in next years draft.

ROUND 1 PICK

It was lack of DE pressure not coverage that put us
dead last against the pass. Anyone who saw us play saw the opposing
QB have all day to pass. It's imparitive that our DE's get pressure this year....otherwise we'll pick top 10 again next year.
Okoye would'ev been fine or a trade down to...we have alot of needs
but Landry is an elite talent that would be hard to pass on.

ROUND 2 PICK

41. Minnesota Vikings – WR Anthony Gonzalez – Ohio St.
WR is the Vikings biggest need and Gonzalez is the kind of high character guy Childress likes and he would be a great fit in their offense.
Good hands WR who would fit in a WCO offense & addresses a need.
Good pick.

72. Minnesota Vikings – DE Brian Robinson – Texas
The Vikings pass-rush was a major problem last year and Robinson is coming off an incredible combine and could be the edge rusher they need.

DE was an issue , but in round 3 We're most likely to take the BPA than to try and fill an need. Udeze / Edwards and James are all back
so DE might be held off for...IMO David Harris is the superior talent.
As many outside LB's as the purple have, they really lack a MLB who fits the tampa 2. David Harris could fit this IMO and is a superior
talent to Robinson.
However overall you have us taking 3 guys who could very well be starting by game 1. GRADE: B+

1. Bowe - Love him, him or Meachem first round=A
2, Pitcock- my fellow Chiefs fans won't like this pick, but i love it. With Pitcock you are getting a non stop motor, 150% on the field every play, not a great celiing, but could be a Chief for 7-10 years. Still you know your getting a VERY SOLID DT out of him. May never be a Pro Bowler, but very soild
3. Brown- I like him alot, adds not only depth but the potential to be a starter in the next year or two

FROM ME this draft is an A!

2. I do think Lewis΄ contract is enough to not draft Peterson, and fill another need. Maybe they are targeting some RB in later rounds or in next years draft.

I agree Sims is a lot better at LT than OG, where he is awful. But even at LT, he is not very good anymore and theres a reason we decided to move him to OG and put Gallery at LT. Sims is not the future, he could be a decent starter for a year or two but we need to bring in a LT for the future, Staley is perfect.

2. If anything, the Browns backfield got worse with the Jamal Lewis acquisition b/c they lost Droughns, who is IMO better than Lewis at this stage of his career. Lewis is very one dimensional at this point, just runs 2 or 3 yards and then crash. He can still be a workhorse but hes not a solution and hes probably gone after 1 year, they need a feature back and Peterson is a star who would help that offense in a huge way and IMO Jamal Lewis would work as a great complement to Peterson so it works out great.

OK I think youre right about the Landry pick....I had my doubts when I made it but I actually completely forgot about Tank Johnson b/c he was injured last year and after re-thinking it, I realize they have 4 quality players at the S position. Question: With Adams and Quinn off the board, who do you think the Vikes would target with their 1st rounder. I dont think Anderson is a good enough pass-rusher for them to take him and I dont think they go WR. I dont see them going DT or LB...As a Viking fan, who would you want in that spot?

eaglesalltheway

This is one of the best mocks I have seen for the Eagles so far. We do need help at the SS spot and Griffin would be a great pick. Considine will take over for Dawkins though, so he is our future at FS. Crowder would be a great second round pick for us, we do need help at DE against the run, as most of our DEs are pass rushers. We do need a lot of help at the LB corp as well, and Waters is a great pick. He could play any LB spot for us. He could play either of our OLB spots until Trotter retires, or take over the MLB spot right away. I really like Waters and think he is going to be a steal no matter where he ends up.
