The Texans would not be a surprise. If you want a surprise team, took at the Lions, Bucs, or Raiders. All 3 could make a big leap forward this year.

Might have said the Lions but they are still 1 year away. Pretty soon the NFC-N is going to be Lions vs. Packers though. If they had an easier schedule I would pick them for this year. They play:
Green Bay x2
Minnesota x2
New England
New York Jets
New York Giants
Dallas
Miami
Philadelphia
NYG, PHI, MIA could go either way, but the other 7 games will probably include about 5 losses so 8-9 wins is probably their ceiling. Next year they will be a better team and Minnesota will be a lot weaker, probably.

Y'know, I'm gonna go with the Jaguars. A lot of people, including myself, just railed on them post draft with the Alualu and Smith picks. But, then were hella young last season, and still were competitive. The '09 Draft they had was great with Monroe as their future LT, Britton as their future RT, Knighton as their future DT, and Cox as their future CB. Now, add in Aaron Kampman at DE, the DT additions they got through the draft, and the development of Knighton and Harvey, and the pass-rush will be improved. An improved pass-rush should help that secondary too, and an experienced MIKE in Kirk Morrison who's an upgrade. They can definitely makes waves and surprise people this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the lions break out, they are in a very similar situation to the Oklahoma City Thunder, everyone thought they were one more year away as well.
I like the Raiders also, the defense is gonna be decent and they would have been a .500 team with even average quarterback play last season, though that may be a bit of a stretch.
I think the Patriots, Dolphins or Jets will surprise also, but not in the way they want to, look for one of these teams to finish below .500 after going into the season expecting a playoff birth.

Id have to go with Kansas City and Tampa Bay for surprise teams. Teams that finish last in the NFC South do good the following season and I think Denver will be bad and Oakland is overrated. I think KC has a real good chance to finish around .500.

1) I will go with the Lions.
2) It's "misspelled," not "missed spelled" or "miss spelled."
3) "Themselves", not "themselfs"

your'e the media favorites, no one would be surprised
I think the Lions are still a year away from doing something. I think 5 wins would be acceptable this year, given the brutal schedule. With another good draft, I think they'll make some noise in 2011. As for who I think will surprise? I'll say the Oakland Raiders. I don't think they'll make the playoffs, but I think they can win eight games or so this year.
