I wish to be in charge of that **** this year, so I'll just start it before anyone else does.

Things should be working quite similarly to last year. We will first start out with the annual Entry Draft, and then we'll be hitting Free Agency.

Since we're mocking the off-season, I take it it would be a fine idea to actually do most of it before the real one starts. I'm thinking about kick-starting the draft on Friday the 11th, which is a week from now and will hopefully give you some time to have a look onto this year's top prospects and do some trade-talk. If it takes too much time to fill the teams with GMs, I could always delay the starting date a little, but let's hope not.

Obviously your first task will be to PM me which teams you would want to GM the most, let's say at least 5 of them, which teams you really would NOT want to GM, and finally if you'd be willing to GM two or even three teams because we certainly won't have 30 participants in this. Please do not send an application if you are not to participate anymore after the first three days.

A good place to look at the different teams' salary cap situation is at www.nhlnumbers.com. Next year's cap will be set at 58M$, and you will all have to fit under it by this thing's end, so plan your spending well!! Otherwise you suck.

More info will be coming out whenever every team's got themselves a fine young GM. (Well, you could still participate if you want, CJ)

Also this is the first ever thread I start on NFLDC.

When and how long will you be off? Because a whole off-season mock takes a long-ass time, and the draft start date is kinda flexible to suit people better if need be. Afterall the real one is only on the 25th.

From the 11th to the 25th I will only have sporadic internet access. I would gladly take on the role as co-GM with someone though(preferabely the Leafs)

I guess that could be done. I am saddened by the semi-loss of a knowledgeable GM, though.

aw...you're too kind. I remember raping the last one as well haha.

I ended up with JT and Eberle while not giving up Schenn(who was actually valuable at the time)

It was faptastic. If only :(

I'm definitely down, probably for multiple teams.

How are we handling RFA? I know we did that first last year so the compensation aspect was more meaningful.

Kind of the same way, as soon as people got their teams, and will last until FA starts. But all will be explained better when we're ready to go.

I don't think I'll have enough time to take a team, but if you need help running it let me know. I think I did one last year, but I don't remember.

I'll join.

nhlnumbers.com is somewhat inaccurate with things like that. I would use capgeek.com. It's top notch.

I'll take the Pens if there are no objections.

Also willing to take multiple teams.

Here are the upcoming Free Agents for every team. RFAs will need a qualifying offer (at least 110% of previous salary if under $660,000, 105% if up to 1M, 100% if over 1M) before the start of Free Agency for their negociation rights to be retained. If the qualifying offer is not tendered to a player, this player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. GMs can negociate contracts with their own UFAs before the start of Free Agency, but at this stage chances are the player will want to test the market unless the offer is too good to refuse.

Note that only the 23 players with the biggest cap hit on each team will count towards the cap number.

It would be important that you all subscribe to the news thread as every development in the league will now be indicated from there. However, do not post in that thread.

Also, I've created the Rumour Mill as well as the Depth Chart/Trading Block threads where you can post information about your teams. The Rumour Mill is optional, but it would be important to provide other GMs with some insight on your team's plans in the Depth Chart thread.

what's the timeline for doing stuff like the draft and free agency???

Starting dates are in the News thread I talked about in my previous post. Draft will be made on the forums with a two hour clock, free agency will see signings in a bunch every couple of days and will end whenever there's no more offers.

Is the cap just 58 million or 58.8 million?

No official number has been released yet concerning the 2010-11 salary cap, though it's been said it would go up about a million or two, so we'll just round it to $58M.

I'm not as into hockey as some of you guys, or most, but I was wondering if I could get some reaction to my choices...i'm fairly confident that Gudbranson was a solid choice but I think Connolly was probably a little different

Todd Bertuzzi
06-12-2010, 07:34 PM
Both were good picks. As far as Connolly is concerned, there's a very good chance he goes top 5 and at that spot it's between him and another player who I won't name. I'm not as high on him as some because of his injury concerns but he's pretty much the consensus 3rd forward behind Hall and Seguin.

SuperMcGee
06-13-2010, 12:32 AM
Yeah, Connolly is legit if he's healthy (where have I heard that before?). I had to consider him for Florida just because he was probably the best forward available, but it came down to Fowler and Gubranson, for me. Definitely not an easy choice there and I'm still nto sure if I mede the right one. I see Fowler as a better prospect, but he's much more similar to the Kulikov that they already drafted last year. In the end I stuck with BPA, who would also probably be a much easier sell down in Florida. An American who just won the two highest junior championships? That could work.

Skinner's a bit of the reach there, but there's a good chance someone falls in love with him and takes him high. I think he's a lock for the top 20 and could easily go top 15, just not sure about top 10. With that being said, if he were a few inches taller he'd probably be a top 5 pick. He did score 70 goals in 84 games this year and tore it up in the playoffs(20 goals in 20 games). When all is said and done Skinner could end up being the steal of this draft if he falls on draft day.

If you take a look at our prospect pool and even our NHL team, we are in desperate need of a true goal scorer. As in like needing water in a 150 degree desert need. The fact that he put up such a massive number, plus the fact that he has room to grow in his other areas, and we are willing to take that chance at No. 9. I nearly went with a more polished, safer pick, but I think at this point in our franchise (very near a total and complete rebuild), we can take a little chance at #9 and get some much needed goal scoring.

I also liked the 20 playoff goals a lot, that was probably the tiebreaker between him and another prospect.

SuperMcGee

There were 2-3 guys that I really would've liked for Atlanta at #8. Skinner was not among them, but I was looking for more of a playmaker. Johansen is a guy that I really like since he's the kind of player I wish the Sabres could pick up. But his #1 center potential made him a fine pick for Atlanta, as well.

I like him more than Bjugstad, personally. But that's just me not liking Bjugstad, I suppose, who I think is pretty sluggish on the ice at times and does not skate with his head up nearly enough. He's pretty good at using his body to bully HS kids around, but I have my doubts at the next level, personally. He was also a no-show in the state tournament for Blaine this year.

Warroad is traditionally one of the best hockey factories in the state, most notably producing TJ Oshie. Lots of dominant college players, but Nelson has the size to carry that over to the pros as well.

I think he could be a pretty damn good center if all the pieces fall into place, I like him as a solid, big, 2nd line center who can win draws and dump in 50 or so points a season.
