I have been running a dynasty league for 7 years (going into its 8th). Recently, I have added a bunch of guys from SWDC and we have a league split between SWDC guys, personal friends, and old FF buddies.

We added few more SWDC guys, so I am thinking of having the draft and threads over here. If there are any objections from users/mods, I can move it elsewhere.

I'm going to try and get all the new guys to sign up here and see if this sticks.

Playoff system:
--------------
top 6 teams make the playoffs (Tiebreaker by total pts scored for the year). Wild Card in Week 14. Semifinals in week 15 of the NFL season. Finals in week 16. Just like the NFL the top two regular season finishers get a bye in the first round.

Dynasty Keepers:
-----------------

This is a dynasty league but to shake things up
every team will be required to drop at least 7 players off of their 25 man dynasty roster, and the 7 players must
include at least 4 offensive players. The deadline for declaring your 18 man rosters will be the NFL rookie draft in all future years.

Dynasty/Rookie Draft:
---------------------

This will be a 7 round draft to fill the 7 vacant roster spots on each teams roster. The draft order will the reverse of the order of finish in the previous season. With your dynasty/rookie draft picks, any rookie or any player not currently on a league roster can be selected.

Trades:
--------
For every trade made, a poll will be made. The league will vote on it, yes
or no and 6 no votes equals a VETO. For every no vote, you must post reasons to prevent any shady business. The commish will not vote on it to prevent a possible tie.

Alright guys,

I am a bit tired of waiting, so I am finalizing this stuff. Everyone had 10 days to join. Those that didn't are out. Welcome the two new additions in Mike and Wes.

Few things:

1. We are going to try discussing/drafting somewhere different this year. Over half the league is now from www.draftcountdown.com/forum Therefore, we are going to try to run the discussion thread and draft over there. I apologize to those who have been around since the beginning and signed up at multiple forums, but this will give us others to comment on our draft, rosters, etc. Feel free to head over there and register. Our Discussion thread is at: http://www.draftcountdown.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2202375#post2202375 When we have the draft, I will sticky the draft thread.

2. If you need the draft order, I will put it up in the thread ASAP. We will start the draft thread (with Cuts/FAs) in mid-July. Please get me prelim cuts. They will be due July 14th (though can be changed until the draft startes,) I have decided, and we will start the draft immediately following the NFL supplemental draft.

2. We have our first trade...and it is a doozy. Myself and Project Mayhem made the following trade. If you have an objection, you can e-mail everyone or me personally. Especially since I am involved, I want this as clean as possible and someone else an arbitrate if need be:

The P Players gives:

RB Marion Barber
WR Reggie Wayne
WR Percy Harvin
Pick #1.07

Project Mayhem gives:

QB Chad Henne
RB: Joseph Addai
TE: Zach Miller
Pick #3.05

From my perspective, I think Henne is on the verge of becoming a stud QB with Marshall there, and though this trade looks like crap in a regular fantasy league, in THIS league, we know the QB is king. I need a #2...bad. I also upgrade my RBs by nabbing the Indy RB, and TEs with Zach Miller. Giving up Wayne is something I wanted to do as he is 31 now, and Harvin worries me injury wise too. The trade down from 1 to 3 still gives me a good position to get a sleeper. I hope everyone will accept this trade.

-Shane

Niiiice, thanks for all the work Shane, really glad to see this message thread moved over here, hopefully if the rest of the guys pop in from time to time I can send out trade offers here, and get some general discussion going on here throughout the season.

Everything looks good so far, that said I'm still in the works of making one big trade so anyone else feel free to send an offer.

I like the first trade though. I agree about Henne, Shane needed that 2nd QB and now he has 2 franchise signal callers very young, it took me some time to learn but having two stud signal callers is the way you build your team. WR's are so much easier to come by, once you get two young QB's to build around you can develop your team from there.

Looks to be another competitive year though, can't wait.

LL, do you want a TE or trying to upgrade elsewhere by giving away Keller?
.

Both. I'm looking at both options. Either trading for one outright, or packaging Keller in case it's a team who has 1 TE doesn't get left out to dry. That said, I'm more then likely going to keep my top 2 WR's and top 2 QB's. But Deangelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart could be packaged in for a TE trade depending on who it is, and anyone else is up for grabs. Desean and Stafford could also be involved with some sort of swap, but I'd want close to a top 5 TE if a bigger name was to be involved.

Other then that, picks, any other players, or some sort of combo is up for grabs, I've tried a few things with 2 teams that couldn't be worked out, so I may just have to wait until after the draft if noone else has anything available.

I think it is, especially at the top. But then again, draft classes like the one in 2008 can kinda get us all spoiled due to the insane amount of franchise RB's that came out that year, and guys like DeSean Jackson were around even later.

Btw I like that trade for both parties, makes sense on both ends.

It doesn't scare me because it's a dynasty league. Look at how sorry the Lions were when Calvin Johnson was drafted on them, and I can only imagine if someone passed him up because the team was too bad. Talent trumps everything for me in Dynasty, situation does play into it but I have no problems taking a super talented guy in a terrible situation.

Spiller has been underrated in most drafts I've been in, but I do have him and Best very close. It's more just the injury concerns about Best that worry me some, play-making ability he's right up there with him, but the Lions just look like they are starting to form a really nice offense all around.

Sorry for the brief holdup, I was actually up all night and didn't really get to lay down until almost right when I was OTC. None the less, I really like Mike Williams, and while I'm not gonna lie I had some QB's there I was looking at, I'm a huge fan of Williams this year and didn't want to risk that he ends up going before my next pick and I end up pissed.

So maybe it'll end up a slight reach if he could have made it to me, but if he pans out the way I think in hindsight it won't be. I'm a huge huge Demaryius Thomas fan too always have been, but have MW slightly ranked higher because of him coming from a pro style system and knowing the route tree and Thomas being so raw in the option, as well as liking his QB situation much more.

Physically and talent wise there really close anyway. Btw Shane thanks for the text, I got it fine.

Whitehurst was the QB I was looking at with my pick, I doubt Hass stays healthy so he'll be starting at some point this year. With the price they paid they are probably gonna end up giving him at least a year to start to see what he can do.

Lol I can't hate that :) I'd still be willing to talk about a deal centered around Deangelo & Clark on my end and Finley and Charles on yours. I haven't taken a look at your roster yet though to add in any other players, just throwing some ideas out, not dead set on making it happen, but I'm always interested in my former Longhorns.

Preciate the picks Shane, and the Longhorn pic :)

I really wanted Berry, he should produce big time like when I scooped Delmas last year; crap team and defense, play-maker, should get chances all over. Hoping for the same formula for Earl Thomas, I think it's a bit easier to find LB's to produce good consistent numbers but it's alot harder to find DB's who produce across the board.

Hoping Earl shows he can be a ballhawk and keep his nose on the ball.

So who is up now? And didn't Gif pick Cribbs at his alloted spot?

Also, anyone else feel like our rosters are just to shallow for a dynasty league? I've got two picks left and two starters to go and have no backups for any of my IDPs or TE. Maybe for next year we could expand the roster size a little bit?

DGB
07-26-2010, 07:06 PM
You're up now.

As for the roster size, I like it how it is. The 7 player turnover and somewhat limiting roster space are some of the aspects that make this league unique.

LonghornsLegend
07-26-2010, 08:00 PM
I could go on both sides with that. I'm in a ton of dynasty leagues, this makes my 7th, the other 6 are on flea flicker and rosters are generally 25-30 man rosters, but closer to 30 in most. I kinda like the turnaround here, makes the draft interesting as well as the FA pool each season, but I'd also be for upping it if need be.

Makes some valuable young players who haven't broken out yet be available and sometimes you have to jump on those guys ahead of time. I picked up Miles Austin before the KC game just because Roy was hurt and needed an extra WR, if it was 25 man rosters he would have been on a team already, or if I waited he would have been a huge WW pick-up.

Guys like him are picked up and dropped countless times, so I like the fact that it gives you alot more decisions regarding pick-ups and moves.

hells-satans
07-27-2010, 09:00 AM
I guess I feel like a dynasty league should be more about building depth through the draft and trades than it should be about working the WW. I'd like it if we had one backup for each starter. We currently have 15 starters and 10 bench players. I'd love to see this league expanded to 30, even if it's a taxi squad instead of active rosters.

Gay Ork Wang
07-27-2010, 09:28 AM

the thing is that it is already taking me years to rebuild. Waiver is the only hope with some drafting. If u make it even deeper im gonna take ten years to get back

I don't really think it takes that long to turn around even the worse of teams. Obviously you have to hit it big on some draft picks, and you'd still be getting 1st choice of rookies, but it probably takes more trading and guessing on trying to land talent. It does take some luck though, and making some crap trades alot(which I did plenty of) hoping you hit it big a few times and turning your team around.

I'll admit I had Deangelo and MJD when I took over my team, but I also had Brodie Croyle, Jamarcus Russell, Jake Delhomme and Trend Edwards as my 4 QB's and TO was my only WR, with Greg Olsen at TE. I think the WW only got me Austin, the rest was trading and manuevering.

Good thing is at least if we know it'll maybe be up for vote at seasons end we can pay close attention to the WW this year just in case we go to deeper rosters.

Btw Shane I appreciate all the text and heads up on the picks, I know it may be a hassle. I have had classes the last few days early morning to take care of. Since I can't get my man to budge on Finley ;) had to go with my #1 TE this year in dynasty Graham, hopefully he'll develop into something great by the time Clark slows down.

FWIW that trade is not looking so bad for you considering you had Vernon Davis and picked up Arian Foster, and I am 100% sure I was taking Foster with that pick, anyone in this league who is in another league with me can vouch for that.

I can use a RB, but I'm not willing to mortage my team longterm to slightly improve this year.

I'm not interested in trading any of Calvin Johnson, Desean Jackson, or Miles Austin unless I'm getting back another WR with that type of potential in the mold of Britt, Maclin, Harvin in a package deal just to throw out some names.

Deangelo and MJD are having a down season, but both are young and have a great chance to bounce back next year, are really young, and nobody is really in a hurry to trade #1 WR's this year.

I know GOW, and I think the other team trying to trade Turner and/or Mcfadden and Peterson, but once teams land elite potential #1 WR's nobody is really gonna be too willing to trade one of those guys unless you have a starting QB. In a dynasty WR's shelf life is so much longer and RB's are up and down, that and you can find someone productive in the FA pool each year, but typically you build around your WR's longterm.

Shane P. Hallam
10-28-2010, 11:44 AM

Kerry Collins was big. I needed that type of output out of him since every other 2nd QB I had has gotten injured or bench, getting annoying. I wasn't able to claim him with a 0$ bid either, and no 2nd QB would have all but made my season a wrap.

One proposition I will bring to the table (and we will vote on privately via e-mail after June 13th):

Expand rosters to 30 instead of 25. I suggest doing this by keeping everything else the same (i.e. dropping 7 players, rookie/FA draft). This year, we would just extend the draft 5 extra rounds in serpentine order.

Id be fine with an increase in roster spots. I think it would help the IDP's too to have a little wiggle room with who you want to play.

Yeah, since Yahoo has upped the max, I think it would be huge for IDP play.

WR Mike Thomas

Hell's Satans gives:
RB Adrian Peterson
RB Toby Gerhart

LonghornsLegend

I like that trade, very aggressive. QS has had an abundance of QB's, but I doubt I would have given up Rivers and all the elite years he has left at QB, especially with him being the best QB on his roster for a RB who has a few elite years left. Plus Mike Thomas is a great breakout candidate, think QS should have asked for more, but that's just m/o just to get some chatter going :) Should be fun to watch that play out.

Also Shane, I'm gonna email you my votes 2nite on the new voting, but do you want to wait until you decide before we get any discussion about it here? I didn't wanna start that until I knew for sure.

like some of the others just logged in. it's good to see action before season. though i agree with longhorn on the trade. peterson doesnt' score enough points (ppr) in our league to warrant a stud qb. but i don't hold a crystal ball, everyone said I was mad trading studly mcnabb for wimpy brees not so long ago. only time will tell.

I wAs sick of always trying to patch up my holes at qb through the draft and knew all the viable QBs would be gone when I picked. I still feel like I am a year or two away from competing for real. But Eli and rivers give me a good core. Hopefully Skelton will pan out but not as hopeful as I was a year ago.

I am still interested in trading: wr for rb. Don't want to do anything too big as I like my starters but would do a wr3 for a backup rb. Thomas, meachem, and ocho all on the table. Sholditch at yahoo.

Also fully support expansion. This needs to happen.

As for the choices, I've long felt that we should give returners the TD's. Only time I guess it would be ok is if we did team defense. So the Eagles D would get 6 points for a return TD, not Desean. Since were doing IDP it makes alot of sense to incorporate that.

I'm also heavily in favor of expanding to 30. Now I am curious as to if our cut down will still be the same. Or if we will just float up to 30 and not have a cut down process anymore?

edit: also, the rosters should be fully updated and correct on the 1st page right shane? My team looks correct. Hoping Deangelo bounces so I can actually have an extra RB and can use J-Stew and Goodson as well. Probably gonna be shopping Dallas Clark and Mathew Stafford.

Anyone need a TE?

You have the 5th pick this year right? Or was that last year? I have a target in mind for the draft that I want to move up with my 1st for, so I'm trying to work around that premise. I don't have many trade options so the 1 move I make needs to make that happen.

Shane I never asked, but what's your policy on trading of future draft picks, just a year ahead? Has that happened before, not allowed, or fair game? I've had some offers before I was on the fence about where a future pick would have done the deal. Just figured since we do this year round it would be cool.

Shane P. Hallam

Yea I hear u, a team trying to trade a bunch of future picks then up and leaving making the new team start off with no future picks. Least most of the guys here have been around for a long time so it's less likely. But good to know it's at least an option for the rare times it may happen.

Geez we sure do nit pick about trades in this league alot don't we? Lol. I mean, I kinda thought that was the whole point of fantasy, and running a team? Sometimes you have to take your lumps with a trade, learn why you didn't get the better end, or wise up in general after some bad moves.

It's 1 thing to just get a discussion about some trades, but there always seems to be 2 many trades we want to break down and IMO it discourages some people from trading more in the future if your on the end of everyone telling you that you got ripped off.

Unless it's Drew Brees being traded for John Beck I've never felt the need to disect a trade, not everyone is gonna feel the same about players and there is nothing wrong with taking risk, or overpaying.

Let's say for example I want Aaron Rodgers off Shane. I offer what's a fair value offer and it's declined. So I come back and up it even more and he says good offer but he doubts he can do it. So I send a 3rd offer and throw a bit more in and he takes it, shouldn't I be able to take that risk if I really believe in a player? I've always felt so.

Nobody should have to defend their trade IMO, it's not that serious, and it takes the fun out of it. No offense to anyone at all, just wanted to say that. I know I had quite a few trades where I didn't really know the value of QB's yet so I needed it and totally understand sometimes.
