As I said earlier (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/forum/showpost.php?p=227594&postcount=104) (which likely prompted this thread), it's Casino Royale for me.

I love the Bond character, and I love Connery as Bond, but the older movies just don't hold up too well and more often than not are rubbish. I won't even mention the Dalton era. I really liked Goldeneye, though the Brosnan era immediately went downhill afterwards to the point of cringing.

With Casino Royale, I love the selection of Daniel Craig and the extraction of the goofy extranous **** that takes away from the character of Bond, all of which is packaged in a story that isn't ridiculous or groan-inducing (see aforementioned extraction), rather it easily ranks among the best of the series.

Though the older moves can be watched in seeing how hilariously misogynistic they are - Connery telling women to leave so they can have "man talk" and slapping their rears afterwards, Moore practically forcing himself on women - it's pure comedic gold.

Thunderball and Moon Raker. I greatly disliked Casino Royale.

Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Live and Let Die
The Man With The Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
Goldeneye
Casino Royale

Those are the best ones the rest are either way too over the top or just bad.

Thunderball and Moon Raker. I greatly disliked Casino Royale.

Moonraker was the goofiest thing I've ever seen in my life. Jaws falling in love with a nerdy chick killed the franchise until Goldeneye.

I can't believe people actually said Octopussy. Sure the title is funny, but that movie turned the series into a joke for a while.

My favorites are: Live and Let Die, License to Kill, Goldfinger, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale

blech.. .casino royale was not a great bond movie, imo, although the actor (daniel craig?) was one of the only two guys in the series who really had any business playing bond. the poker scene was disgusting and bad, and a fair amount of the rest of the plot seemed either rushed or forced as a direct result (time and all).

geo: i think the movies were fairly intentionally misogynistic, given the bond character, and i think you could see the general reasoning in casino royale. but that's neither here nor there. goldeneye would've been better had it not been pierce brosnan. i absolutely HATE him as bond, especially after seeing craig pull it off so perfectly. regardless, i have a hard time believing that there weren't at least 4 movies with connery that were better than any of the recent versions.

If we're talking real movie, not cheesy Bond stereotype flick (not saying all the old ones were, just most), Casino Royale was easily the best. Craig was the first even remotely inventive view of the character since Connery got away with a scottish accent.

If we're talking the classic Bond style, From Russia with Love totally kicks ass.

I loved Daniel Craig as Bond, but the movie got a little boring for me in the middle as they played up the card game too much for my taste. He could end up being my favorite Bond along with Connery.

I didn't post because we had a thread like this a few weeks ago.

I have a little man crush on Man With The Golden Gun. It actually isn't that great in general, but I love it for some reason. It ranks 5 on my list at this point.

#1? Easily Goldfinger in my book. One of the best movies. You have the best Bond, ***** Galore, and you get one of the best villains PLUS Oddjob. Well Written, great all around.

That leaves me with:

4. A License To Kill
3. You Only Live Twice (No one else likes it, but it's enjoyable. Bond and Ninjas? Yes.)
2. Goldeneye

The gadgetry and the cast of bad guys is fantastic, I don't see why more people don't like it. That and Wayne Newton is in it!

Why didn't you like Casino Royale?

Because it wasn't a James Bond movie. It was lame post-modern emo James Bond who doesn't have the smoothness or the personality that regular James Bond has. Maybe if it had Tom Cruise in it and it was called Mission Impossible IV I wouldn't have been mad, but I hold Bond to another standard.

Also, I'm aware at how lame Moonraker is, I just really liked it when I was a kid. I stand by my endorsement of Thunderball though, one of my favorite movies of all time.

On second thought, here's my top ten:

1. Thunderball
2. For Your Eyes Only
3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
4. From Russia With Love
5. Goldfinger
6. Dr. No
7. Goldfinger
8. Octopussy
9. Goldeneye
10. You Only Live Twice
