Good opener tonight because of the Dallas factor on the Bengals.

Jerry Jones finally buckled to the pressure and got rid of Owens, Pac Man, and Tank Johnson as they were supposed locker-room cancers. JJ didn't want to, but he buckled.

And look at what we have tonight. All 3 of those guys are in Bengals uniforms. I wish this matchup would be in Cinci in the regular season. Do they play this year regular season?

Click on "Live Sports" and then look for the game. Click it, new window opens, and success!

Also, Suh vs. Pouncey in the first preseason game for both players. Definitely want to see that matchup.

Maria wants Montana fossilize sausage. It's so obvious.

BTW, Montana looks sharp, granted it's only flag football. Maybe Vikings should give him a call, since they have a thing for middle aged QBs.

I agree, this would have been 1 hell of a regular season game and had some nice story lines to it, oh well. Be nice to at least see two full drives with starters, but I really don't want to see Romo much 2nite, last thing we need is him taking a shot to the ribs and starting the season hobbling around.

One key guy to watch for on Dallas is Mike Hamlin, 2nd year player has always been a ball hawk, and he's been making a ton of plays in coverage in camp. He's got an outside chance to supplant Alan Ball as a starter with a strong pre-season, but he may have a future starting at SS if we don't re-sign Sensy.

I want to see if the practice stuff translates, and I think he'll get a decent amount of playing time.

08-08-2010, 07:21 PM
Garrett of course going shotgun in the goal line again already. :/ lol. This guy's red zone playcalling is soooo terrible, even in the preseason.

That being said, we could have had two touchdowns...but I'd love to see some power running when we're in that deep, or utilize your talented tight ends. I have no idea why he never does this...twas a big problem last season.

LonghornsLegend
08-08-2010, 07:23 PM
Buehler needs as many chances to kick as he can in the pre-season, but stalling drives in the red zone is the last thing I want to see. Garrett has been doing better lately, but our red zone scoring was a big problem and I hope this isn't a trend.

Some DB's look at what they are tackling, head-up.
Guys like the one I saw tonight that dive into the front legs of a still running receiver or runner or passer.... I hate those guys. That's chicken**** and dangerous.
Tackle like a man and keep the head up and see what you're tackling!

And I don't like the Cowboys or anything, but that kind of reckless tackling pisses me off because I want fewer ACLs torn, legs and ankles broken, etc.

Same thing happened to EJ Henderson last year by his own guy who was trying to do that to the Cardinals runner, missed, and took out EJ. Tackle like men.

Meh. The lack of practice is more evident than the lack of talent. CFL football is fun to watch, and the skill level is not near an NFL starter in most cases.

That's how DB's are coached to tackle players bigger than them straight up.
Do you really expect Adam Jones to go face up and form tackle a Tight End?
It's a game of leverage. If the ball carrier is coming up head on, you go for the shins, the cleats go out and he gets chopped down play over. Usually doesn't result in injury

It only ends up detrimental if you come from the side and hit the knee, which they don't since they're usually going for the strip and drag down from that angle.

What the chances Barber gets let go after this season for Choice?

About 90%. Considering Barber has been hurt the past few years, and really has been outplayed, and his contract size, highly doubt he returns. Choice wants to play more, he's been open about that, and with us trying to sign Austin, Free, Sensy, maybe Alan Ball, Barber probably won't be able to stay with his contract.

I'd be really surprised if he was here in 2011. Felix will be ready to start a full-time role, and Barber makes WAY too much to just be a part time back.

No. He looked done last year, but allegedly his arm was "stronger than ever" in camp. I didn't buy it and from what I saw I was right. If it isn't strong now, what will it look like come December. (here's a hint, check out their games late last year.)

Buehler is getting a chance to win the FG job, that's all. It's not like he's terrible at kicking FG's, but he didn't have to work on it at all last year so he's getting a shot. Nobody was expecting him to start this season looking like Vinitarie, but Stover has already expressed some sentiment to play for Dallas so if Buehler gets into the regular season missing FG's he'll lose his job.

But he's something like 35/42 in Training Camp, and he has the leg to hit 55 yarders. He'd gonna have to start missing 30 yard FG's to lose his job, nobody cares about style points or because he makes it skinning the uprights instead of right down the middle. I don't think anyone else is in a hurry to pick up Stover either so he's not going anywhere.

Geno Adkins should have been drafted alot sooner, nearly everyone knew he would be a stud in the 4-3 defense, he's so damn quick.

Felix Jones screwed up just like Steve Slaton did last year. You cannot add that much bulk without losing that special burst/acceleration. Slaton's YPC dropped by 1.5 from year 1 (205-lbs) to year 2 (220-lbs). I see something similar for Felix Jones, who now weighs more than Marion Barber. Chris Johnson didn't "bulk" up, so I don't know why it is a necessary thing to do.

It was good to finally see some action after months and months. The Bengals offense didn't really impress me in the first couple of series. The Dallas defense looked sharp, but at the same time I'm guessing we're going to see the Carson Palmer from last year instead of flashes of what he was able to do five years ago. Hopefully his arm has enough stamina to survive the entire season.

Lol so your going to say he screwed up from the limited snaps you saw 2nite? I'd be willing to make any kind of bet with you on the type of season Felix will have this season, anything you want. He's gonna have more carries then Barber and he'll easily crack 1000+ rushing yards.

Besides your using 1 example, lots of scat backs gain weight and there is no drop off. Look at Clinton Portis after he left Denver, dude was skinny as hell and then his neck started to look like a tree trunk.

This is gonna be a breakout season for Felix and the added weight is gonna help him stay healthy, but if you think not because of how much you saw him run last night so be it. I'm very confident in that, and most of our beat writers who tend to be negative in camp reporting have pretty much said the exact opposite of what you think.

Jumping the gun on Felix a bit...his speed looked the same...and he would have had a pretty big gainer, if he didnt fumble the ball away. He's fine...and Slaton's vision cannot even be mentioned in the same universe at Felix's...Felix has magnificent vision...even if he were to slow one day, the guy would be a very effective back.

Apparently no one reads the context of what I said. Cool... It has nothing to do with the game. It has everything to do with how I feel about players overall that happened to be featured in that game. Carson Palmer sucked last year and he will suck this year. A live arm would be nice to see, but I will believe when I see it and it hasn't happened yet.

As for Felix Jones, it is dangerous for Running Backs to play at drastically different weights than what they have for their entire careers. That statement has nothing to do with how he played yesterday.

Seems that way. Edwards, Brohm, and Fitzpatrick all seem to either not understand the nuances of the NFL and/or don't have the athletic ability and instincts to match it. I thought Edwards would be a decent starter in the NFL when he came out. Not that there still isn't hope for any of these guys to turn it around. Did they get the third down in their attempt? Unsportsmanlike conduct is a dead ball foul, so it would be assessed after whatever yardage Atlanta gained on the play.

I assume you mean 1st down.....if so, I thought about that, but if it was an "and goal" situation, the only way to get a first without scoring is for there to be a defensive penalty that results in an automatic first.

Someone recommend a game to watch until my Bears start at 9.

If you're looking for laughs you can watch AJ Feely try to play QB.

In two minutes of watching the Steelers game:

1.) Their o-line sucks.

2.) Leftwich looks so god damn awkward....a statue with the longest damn throwing motion.

Why do the packers even try to run the ball? Pass 1st 2nd and 3rd.

Mmmmm....Robbie Gould, you're so good.

And he makes the tackle on the kickoff return. Godly.

TJ Ward has been an absolute beast making tackles so far... looks like Eric Berry if he were homeless, but still pretty good.

Colt McCoy looks like a rookie QB, jitters and all

I'm now starting the Randy Phillips bandwagon.

It's nice that he's staring to do something. He didn't do **** in a Hurricanes uni.

3 penalties on this drive from the Chargers O-line.

Our safeties still suck. :(

Also, Nanee will make Vincent Jackson obsolete. They should seriously just trade him for whatever they can get.

I know it's the Browns defense, but Aaron Rodgers was a monster for the time he was out there. He read blitzes, made great reads, and made great throws look effortless. He almost looked bored out there.

Nevertheless, 21-14 Browns at the half.

Beekman had better not be our long term plan at C. 3 snaps, one fumbled exchance and one ****** shotgun snap.
