NT Jerrell Powe, Ole Miss
6'2 - 330 lbs. - Senior

No highlights.

Big, big man who can play both 4-3 and 3-4, though I think he'll wind up being a 3-4 NT. What do you guys think of him?

i like him as a 34 NT, not as disruptive as dan williams but a better 34 NT prospect imo....not quite sure where to place him or any NT this year quite yet though.

doesnt he have a learning disability or something? maybe hes just a dum dum i dont remember the story.

He wasn't taught to read until late in high school IIRC. I forgot what the full story was thought.

A beast and moves well for someone with his size...given his ability to fit in both a 4-3 and 3-4 I can't see him falling out of the 2nd round unless he falls flat on his face this year, might even make a run at the first round.

He has incredible talent, he is as explosive and as disruptive as they come at his size. Last year was his first real season of college football and he had a great year, he is a monster and has been tearing up practice in Oxford. He should have a huge year.

well you dont have to be smart to play 34 NT anyway lol

I'd love Powe on the Vikings to take over for Pat Williams, he'd be a perfect fit for that role.

Yeah his intelligence will definitely be questioned, but as far as football is concerned he is an amazing DT prospect. He gave an interview at the SEC media days and he is definitely slow but he can at least speak (somewhat)-

Yeah, it's bad but I've seen worse. It's real big time you know what I mean?

he looks like a bowling ball in that OP picture.

If he keeps his intensity up this year, I think he can move up boards. Just tough to do at his size with his position, and if he takes plays/games off, it can hurt his stock like Cam Thomas.

Good, true 3-4 NTs are hard to find, and i think it will definitely help his stock as long as he doesn't look awful next year.

He really has a great motor and is a great guy, he just is not an intelligent person. He is one of the most beloved guys ever to put on the Ole Miss uniform (no joke) and is an incredibly hard worker, you don't have to worry about him taking plays off. He isn't bright and he is still a bit raw but he is incredibly talented and works very hard.

A guy I definitely like a lot right now as a potential NT prospect and will be watching as much as I can on Saturdays. Think he'd be a great addition to the Jets, although I'm sure a bunch of teams are going to be after this guy. May not be a Rhodes Scholar, but I really liked his attitude in that interview and he can play. Carries his weight pretty well for such a big guy, too. Hopefully he really gets after it his senior year, rooting for him to succeed.

I like him as a late rd 1 at this moment. I dont think hes better than dan williams or cody, but with the proliferation of the 3-4 and 3 man interior lines in general,a middle clogger with some athletic ability could definitely be worth a rd 1 pick. Not the best ive seen recently, but shows some nice traits. Will be watching closely this year as i love nose tackles think they are generally undervalued, but not as good as the two guys this year and likely to slip into rd 2 unless he has a great statistical season.

I would love to groom him to be Casey Hampton's replacement. I love the comparision Don Vito(I think?) gave him, which was Vince Wilfork.

he'll be well in the first round if he can display dan williams or BJ raji like disruptiveness, he seems to be a pretty relentless player so i think hes one to watch climb the boards this season

I do like the Wilfork comparison because he can move so well for his size and they have nearly identical frames, that of a brick shithouse. He is very disruptive, watch him play whenever you get the chance this year. He was facing double teams all year last year and still played great, he is still a little raw but this should be his breakout season. I'd say he is a better athlete for his size than Williams and maybe Raji too, not a knock on them in any way but Powe really is gifted. He needs to have a very good year this season if he wants to get drafted where he has the ability to be, and I think he will (top 20 talent). 3-4 NT's are very valued now so he definitely could be off the board early if everything goes right for him.

didn't he have a weight issue which saw him lose playing time before last year? He has improved, but I would like to see if he can keep the weight off and stay on track

He was about 380 in the spring of 2009 and got down to 330 before last season, now he has been constant at 325. He has been on a diet and has stuck to it, his weight issue hasn't been a concern really. 325 is still immense but that is probably a good weight for him, he might even try to get lighter I hear.

In terms of measurables and body-type he looks like a 3-4 NT all the way. He's a short, squatty brickhouse.

The best NT prospect in a DT class that isn't lying about having NT prospects...he's better than Phil Taylor and more well known and battle tested than Kendrick Ellis...for now that's all there is to say. I'd be happy to see the Jets walk out of next year's draft with any of Powe, Ellis, or Taylor.
