Received this in email today & had to share it.
On the night of Aug. 27th, stay up late & get out your cameras & telescopes. I hope the West Coast smog/smaze/atmosphere won't obscure it or block it:
2 Moons Visible on the Night of Aug. 27th
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 AM (PDT). It will look like the earth has two moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287 -- NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

I guarantee it will not look like a full moon. You've been had.
But I do enjoy when it is visible, though it's more like a bright star with a red tint. So I'll try to take a look.

That's awesome. I'll have to do a little research to make sure I don't miss it.
So it will look something like this?

Ya I doubt it will look like a full moon, but if its visible at all to the naked eye that will be pretty cool. I caught a couple of the meteors the other night, but it was too overcast to really see most. Will definitely give seeing Mars a shot though.

About 7 yrs. ago we got up at 3 AM to watch a rare West Coast meteor shower, got lucky for a break in the cloud cover & fog for it on a very cold winter night (you could see your breath).
What was unusual was that there were all these people out on their roofs at that hr. with cameras. I hope this phenomenon has a similar following.

It says Mars will be very close & very visible, another moon? IDK.
Also says it will be visible in the early morning hrs, on the west coast that's anytime after midnight. Again the cloud cover & smaze we get from the coastal fog & haze will be the big factor determining if we can see the big Mars planet that s/b appearing very big to all of N. America.
Mars coming within 35 miles of Earth is really, really, really, really, really, reallllllllllllllllllllllly close. That just can't happen.

Depending where you are (i.e. not close to a city), Mars is almost always visible to the naked eye. It's never really bigger than the stars around it though.

Well I was hoping for a bit more than a brighter than the rest dot in the sky, however.

No, a request sounds more like this.
"Hey descendency, can you please come over here and toss my salad again?"

Yeah it's a hoax -- my apologies. I received an email disclaimer from the source this morning.
Although Mars will be closer than before the sun is in the way. Like it wouldn't be a factor at 3 AM, lol.
