Nate Davis has reportedly been elevated to #2 QB for the remainder or preseason. Coach Sing and Raye want to see if Davis' success is because of his progress at the position or a product of the #3 and #4 defenses he has been faced with.

Mike Newton tackling Naaman Roosevelt. Awesome. I love seeing Buffalo players in the league, most are usually on the Colts. I really hope both can make something for themselves.

And speaking of popping boners over college players, Eric Foster had a great sack early on the drive.

I'm so pissed the Bills didn't bring Aaron Schobel back, I completely understand being respectful to a guy who gave you so much and letting him move on to a team that can play in the playoffs, but he could be so helpful to Maybin. The kid's so raw that like JPP you need to have not just a very good DE coach but also a good vet to learn from/get mentored by.

That seems a lot for the second game but i think they need some cohesion, especially up front on that offense. I wouldnt push some of the defenders (Bradley) too much this early.

My ideal night would be Kolb looks great, Graham gets a couple of sacks and Riley Cooper catches a bomb behind the defense. All doable.

Everything involving Aaron Maybin pisses me off. For being a speed rusher, Maybin is about as far from Schobel as you can get, as both a person and a player. It's really sad, because Schobel was exactly what you want in both.

Wasn't he willing to come back to the Bills if they wanted him? At least that's the story I remember reading, then again it's been a crazy summer so I might be mis-remembering that wrong...

I really wish the Bills could've worked into Maybin's contract that he had to live with and learn from Schobel until he got double digit sacks. Now the Bills are stuck hoping they can find a psychic to channel Aaron Schobel into Maybin's body. It's such a shame to because with good coaching and mentorship Maybin has all the tools to be a dominant pass rusher.

The Texans were talking to him and reported that instead of signing somewhere else, Schobel was calling it a career after 9 seasons. It's certainly possible it was just a ploy to get out of training camp, but camp's over, so you'd think if he was going somewhere, he'd be doing it now.

I've been watching them all online when I can. I was at my parent's house the last two days where they get NFLN and watched several of the replays too....I'd rather have NFLN than even ESPN 10 times over. And thanks to Comcast, I get neither. Double :( :(

You bet your sweet ass I enjoy paying less (cable bill) than what I payed in Albany without NFLN

edit: What sports package?!

Last time I looked at Comcast's different packages, about a year ago at this time, NFLN still wasn't included in any of their lower level (aka college student affordable) packages. It was in some high priced sports tier with like golf, racing and regional crap.

That's the big stink over regular season games that are on it. Unless you have satellite or are paying for the real expensive packages, you can't get it. And that's something like half the nation last time I read up on it.

Nalej
08-20-2010, 04:54 PM
I don't know. I did very little research.
I asked for their basic package (1 HD DVR box and a basic non-HD DVR box for the bedroom), asked if NFLN was included (yup!)
...asked for a price and it was helleva lot cheaper than Time Warner in upstate NY.

So I'm happy with my services. Maybe we have different definitions for expensive.

But zomg.....the Eagles are one of the best run franchises and they've had two years to prepare Kolb for this spot. The absolutely wouldn't have traded McNabb unless they were 100% confident in Kolb!

Please tell me the sarcasm is obvious on that...

Key operative phrase here... being overly critical during a preseason game is just as bad as being effusive in praise after beating the Chiefs. I'm not saying you're wrong and he won't have his struggles, but let's not be hasty here.

I thought it was a telling sign that Kolb was being forced onto Reid by management. Reid absolutely did not want to let go of McNabb.

But hey, it's still early. I won't write him off entirely just yet. But I wasn't sold on him then, and I'm not sold on him now. I've been watching a bunch of tape on this guy, and I just don't see it.

No doubt, I won't write him off entirely just yet.

But let's also not forget, he's been in the league for 4 years now. Compare his progress to Aaron Rodgers at this point, and it's not even close.

You expect a qb to look off safeties after 4 years.

Everyone thinks that just bc Rodgers was a success, that Kolb will be too bc he sat behind a great qb and is part of a model franchise as well. It's never that simple.

He has accuracy. He has mobility. He has good pocket presence and footwork. I'll give him that. But he lacks arm strength, he stares down his targets, he hasn't mastered adjusting of protections yet.

He checks down too often as well.

I think the absence of Todd Herremans is starting to show. Even though Stacy Andrews is extremely lackluster in pass protection, he gets a solid push in the run game. The offensive line just needs to be consistent. One play they get a solid push in the run game, the next you have Tank Johnson camping out in the backfield.

His best year was the year he got hit in the knee. He doesn't get hurt, the Bengals win that game and were a real contender to win that Superbowl.

He had as just a good a year the following season. It wasn't his knee that has led to lower velocity and inaccuracy on his passes. He may have just ran out of steam at this point in his career. He's only 30, but it can happen sooner than we think to some folks.

We'll see. I'm not ready to throw the hammer on this guy yet. He is still a decent starter in the NFL in my opinion (would love him on the 49ers), but his days as an elite quarterback seem over. It would be a miracle of he had the arm from five years ago. And his velocity isn't that awful. Excuse me. But his accuracy has suffered.

While Kolb didn't have his best game last night, I'm not too worried about it. How many QBs would play well with 4 guys in their face every time they drop back trying to throw against arguably the best CB tandem in the league? He also didn't throw any picks while Vick and Kafka combined for 4 picks in the 2nd half alone I believe. The O-Line was absolutely terrible, we need Todd Herremans and Jamaal Jackson back. Kolb does still have to improve his decision making but like I said in the eagles thread, that should come with experience.

The problem with Dunlap in college is that he had zero clue on how to use his physical gifts. For all of his legendary athletic feats, he was a ******* vagina on the field. He'd get tossed around like a rag doll in the run game. He'd completely vacate his gaps in order to go try to kill the QB. I emphasize "try" because he didn't get there that often. He benefited from a great secondary and a good overall defense. Can he change it in the pros? Sure. But as a prospect, he was wildly overrated by those who freak out anytime they see a workout warrior.

I'm not sure what his assignment was there on defense as far as vacating his gaps, not sure anyone outside the team and coaching staff might know that for sure. As for being tossed around like a rag doll i saw 6-8 Gator games and didnt see that.

Is that the same Giants D that gave up "35-40 points" against the Patriots in the Super Bowl :((((

I could dream right?

Heheh, probably a very new defense. Just 3 years and a whole lot has changed. We are on our second DC since that superbowl win.

Panthers special teams are god awful so far. 2 fumbles in the 1st qtr and the Jets have recovered both times.

Too bad the Jets offense has looked lethargic and the Panthers D have gotten to Sanchez pretty much so far.

God Thesimann is such a ****** idiot.

Ed Dickerson from Oraygon. And Dennis Pittai. LOL and he just said the Skins have the best safeties in the NFL. Someone shoot him now.

Sam Bradford sucks and his coaching staff has no confidence in him whatsoever.

1:00 to go in the half with 3 timeouts at their own 20 and the Rams are content to just give the ball back to the Browns

I liked when he said "Larry Johnson has looked incredible this pre season....he may only have one carry but he looked great on it." And he was being dead serious.

Steelers second team O is gashing the Giants D. Dixon keeps his hat in for starting QB.

How is he not already the starter? I don't get that at all.

I know it's the Raiders and preseason, but Forte with a 89 yard TD makes me happy in the pants.

He's still raw. Also, IIRC, he still doesn't know the full playbook. Coaches believe that Lefty will give the team the best chance to win. Even if DD doesn't start, I'm sure they'll involve him one way or another in the game.

I'd expect him to have a much better year than last year. He should be completely healthy, and is a good back for a Martz offense. Might not rack up the most rushing yards, but he will have a strong receiving year which is especially good in a ppr league.

The Raiders have a pretty good defense, so if it was their starters, that's an impressive achievement

Yea he had Miller wide open and all he had to do was lob it over Tillman into the endzone and shorted it by a lot. It looked like the type of throw where the QB gets hit and can't follow through on his throw. Otherwise, it was just a terrible throw.
