Scott still doesn't have the new content up. I've been very disappointed with the main site for the past 2 years. This site has so much potential, and it's just rotting away.

Scott's competitors have blown him away because he's been so half ass with the site the past 2 years. Other sites are growing and adding more content, and this site is actually getting worse. I don't get it.

Luckily these boards remain the best place on the net to talk draft. Some very good contributors here still. Hopefully Scott gets back to his work very soon, it would definitely give the site a boost... Lately there's only one link to click on from the home page & that's the forums.

bigbluedefense

The forums are the only reason why I'm still here. But at the end of the day, we all came here for the same reason: We wanted draft content. This site can be so much better than it is, and its disappointing. I mean wth, this is a draft website without scouting reports.

Thats like a porn website without the porno.

As I understand it, Scott has been a bit busy the past year and while I love the draft as much as anyone, I understand that there are some things that are just more important. That said, we have a strong stable of posters here who do a great job of keeping us all informed and doing their best to help carry the site in his absence. As someone who really only pays attention to draft-eligible players in college football, its useful to have others like Pudge, TACKLE, Jbond and some others to bounce ideas and scouting reports off of when the time comes. Personally, Ive always been involved in the forums here and even though the main site is lacking, my interest won't wane. Its a good group of people here for the most part, we know what we are talking about (again...for the most part)

It would be nice if Scott would at least post something on the forums stating if he's ever going to start running the site again. He hasn't been doing any type of radio or internet broadcast either. I miss listening to him talk football. In the past he would have been active again by this point in the preseason.

bigbluedefense
08-30-2010, 01:56 PM
Well, to be honest, it really all depends on whether this is a side thing he does, or if its his full time job to be a draft guy.

If he's working a day job 9-5 and does this for fun on the side, then I understand. But if its his job, then theres still no excuse.

Look, a lot of us work and are busy, but being occupied with other things isn't a valid excuse for us at our jobs. Job performance is job performance. None of the rest of it matters.

Thats if this is his full time gig. If its not, then I can understand.

I haven't looked at the main site in a long time....I figured if new stuff got posted, I would see it get talked about here and I would know to go check it out.

Yeah, the mainsite is a joke now. Sucks, cause it used to be the best draft site out there.
I'm fine with getting my draft info, mock drafts, rankings etc. from other sites, cause there's sites out there that update daily and have way better content. The shittiest thing is we're not going to attract new people to the forums now. It's us and that's it.
Itd be nice to keep attracting new people to the site, but its not going to happen anymore.

I know it's not much compensation, but I'll have DVR this year at my house & will be doing a whole lot of recording games for the sole purpose of scouting them. I hope to complete somewhere between 80-100 reports for this year. I'm also thinking about doing a little weekly watch list for players so everyone can know who's playing who & who to watch for. I think it'd increase discussion about draft prospects on a weekly basis quite a bit. Nothing wrong with having a bunch of eyes/opinions on the same player(s).

Yup. I came here because the mainsite used to be good. I used to check this site before any others for my mocks, rankings, opinion pieces etc. Then I checked out the forum and got hooked. Without the main site, new people aren't going to be attracted to the forum. Theres no reason for casual draft fans to come to this site. Theres sites that have mocks every week, rankings for future years already done, and nearly daily articles. Scott doesn't do anything.

Really sucks. This forum is fantastic. Lots of good, smart posters. If it dies, it's a shame.

Mr.Regular
08-30-2010, 02:26 PM
PS Id gladly help out however I can. I've written a couple articles for rookiedraft.com and I'll be starting up my blog again for draft season, if anyone cares enough.

The main issue though is attracting new people here IMO. Without the main site content up no one new will bother coming here.

Thats good and all, but the forums are already good.
Like BBD said, us doing more stuff around here won't change a thing. If the main site blows, no one ever new will come. Who checks out this site for content now? No one.

As good as the forums are, it's us and that's it. If people start to leave for whatever reasons in the future, the forums die. No one new is coming. There's no reason for a new fan to come to this site, the content is awful.

Yup. Shane is going to do all the work that makes the website exist in the first place, like scouting reports, player interviews, podcasts etc.

Scott sounds like he's just going to market the website now. He's become a promoter, and Shane is doing all the scouting work. It's like hiring an agent, Scott is the agent now.

From Shane's Twitter account:

And with that, the site is officially done. No offense to Shane, but you're not an analyst and you don't know what you're talking about. You don't have the time, the knowledge nor the game tape to scout and break down numerous players (there is nothing wrong with sharing your opinion on the forums or creating Youtube videos, but plaster your name on a web site and attaching draft analyst next to it is simply ridiculous). Not that Scott was really all that much different, but... this site has been quite worthless. I wouldn't even use the term bad, it's just worthless. It's really no different than the thing Day One Pick does where he has 750 players ranked that most people have never even heard of and players from schools that don't even televise games. There just hasn't been any reason to even look at the main site in quite some time. I like the forums, but I never even look at the main site. When Scott would update his rankings and put a link in the forums, I would look through them and read a few scouting reports. Now, there's no reason to even bother clicking on the link in the forums.

Pudge, to me, is by far the best armchair, wannabe draft analyst on this site. If there was anyone with any kind of potential to be even halfway respectable, I would say it's him. He should send Scott a PM and get his **** on the site. He has opinions and can actually articulate them with lengthy -- sometimes overly lengthy -- reviews on players. He also doesn't seem like he just throws out blanket statements from some kid that plays for Oakwoods, California division 4 school without watching him first.

The thing this site always lacked was individual opinion. Every top QB would be ranked in the top 10, every top rated OT would rated highly and there would never be any kind of individual opinions on players. I would rather say Sam Bradford sucks and be completely wrong then have him ranked #5 because everyone else had him ranked in the top 5. Too much formulaic, two-weeks-late-updates that are similar to anything on ESPN or NFLN.

I agree with the bold, and a bit of the other stuff about ThePudge also throwing in some help on the main site, but the other stuff is a little drastic. I think we should at least give JBond a chance before proclaiming the site as an utter failure. For the most part, you can tell he knows what he is talking about, I'm interested to see how his scouting reports compare to Scott Wright's old ones.

Now obviously JBond is no Mike Mayock, but I mean, who is? He won't have the time to watch all that game film and formulate all of his own opinions (he is still a teacher I believe) and like most analysts will probably take steal some of the main Pros and Cons from guys from Mayock and Kiper. That's why I respect a guy like Mayock so much, the guy forms his own opinions about each player after hours of footage and wasn't afraid to put a top prospect like McFadden as his third or fourth runningback.

Thanks for the support, but I'm not doing EVERYTHING. Scott is still doing the majority of the work. More blog posts, most of the scouting reports, interviewing the big names, his own articles and usual great insight, etc. I'll just be in the support role, filling in the gaps, and adding my own twist and flavor.

This makes sense. Should be fun to see what you add to the site. You've come a long way from making 2-man mocks with Creek and losing to me at Halo tournaments.

Can we get an ETA on the re-launch?

I feel really dirty for posting in this thread. This site has been an awesome part of my life for nearly five years. But I have to admit that the concerns you guys have expressed (except for most of Big Banger's post which was overly harsh) are very legitimate.

I've been more concerned about the general lack of an update from anyone in charge, not the content as I knew the re-launch was coming, it was just being kept in the dark that was making me a bit like WAHHHHH.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Every time Scott says an update is coming, like a mock or new rankings etc., he always says the time is earlier than it actually is (Im presuming so he can get more page hits from people checking). Maybe with Shane this'll change, but I'm sure it won't be for a little bit.

And with that, the site is officially done. No offense to Shane, but you're not an analyst and you don't know what you're talking about.

Shane is the same thing Scott was. I find it amusing that you never realized that.
