Matt Schaub - ATL
Damon Huard - KC
Charlie Batch - PIT
Mostly veteran guys that can be relied on to step in and win a few games if needed. I don't really see them ever being franchise QB's with the exception of Schaub, he has a slight chance to if he ever goes to a place where he can start.

This is a fairly good question...
1) Schaub
2) Garrard
3) Huard
4) Rodgers
5) It wouldve been Harrington, but now Batch

Kerry Collins?
I'd say Damon Huard has been the best of all current backups recently.

1. Matt Schuab
2. Damon Huard
3. Jim Sorgi- I am a fan of this guy. underrated to the extreme. Doesnt get a chance cause Peyton never gets hurt, but imo he could be a decent starter....

I don't understand how all of you have Schaub #1. Schuab hasn't had to come in and play half the season like Huard. Huard came in and dominated while Green was out.

i dont see how schuab or huard are even in the discussion
a good back up qb needs to be half coach / half qb, be able to teach from the sidelines and still be able to manage a game
which is why i would much rather have a proven vet on the downside of his career as a back up than some young guy who may get an oppurtunity at some time

but seriously, based on performance last year, it'd have to be Garcia. Based on potential, I'd say Boller or Garrard, that is until after the draft.

In all fairness, Collins came into a totally unacceptable situation early last season with very minimal time to get acquainted with the offense and receivers. I think he is a serviceable backup, but no where near the best.

I gotta go with Garrard, he's not the quality starter Del Rio mistook him to be but he is a guy who can come in and makes plays and win games.

Huard then probably Jake Plummer, last year, now its probably Huard, Schaub and then aaron Brooks.

Batch isn't the best but he stepped up and played well over the last two years while Ben was out some.

He has hardly even played in either college or the NFL. How can you say he is the best?
My best. Charlie Batch, Jeff Garcia.

Jeff Garcia?
Garcia will likely be the starter, meaning Simms is the backup. While he had a poor showing as the starter last year, he had a very good year as the backup to Griese in 2005.

While he also can make plays to lose games.
If he ever was the best backup at a point in time (which I think he wasn't), he certainly isn't now.
I gotta go with Huard. He may be a starter, what with Trent Green being now openly shopped around the league.

In terms of backup QB's you could do a lot worse than Mark Brunell and Billy Volek.
I think Huard is still #1 though.

Matt Schaub, easily. From a Pat Kirwan article;
The Falcons will not give the guy away, but after evaluating the 2007 prospects' performances, Schaub probably is no worse than third in this class, and for a few teams, he's probably second. As one personnel director with an interest in a quarterback said, "The Falcons know that Schaub's value is probably close to the 15th pick in the first round, but putting a deal together that works for all parties is the tricky part."

It was Garcia, but he will most likely start now.
Schaubb is up there I guess, I'm not really sold on him being the exceptional player people make him out to be. Garrard has been decent for Jacksonville. And now the homer pick, BROOKS BOLLINGER! In 2005 when we caught the injury plague, Bollinger was actually pretty solid toward the end of the season.

He isn't the best, but Matt Cassell has been solid in his 2 seasons in New England. He has the size, speed, and the arm to be a great QB. As mentioned before, he didn't get much playing time at USC because he backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. He actually was penciled in as the starter over Leinart when Palmer left, but I beleieve he got hurt and Leinart then took over for good.
The best backup QB in the NFL now is Damon Huard, we saw what he did in KC last year.

If he's applicable, Drew Bledsoe.

as far as Cassell its been said that if you take away their #s, Cassell and Brady look very similar (in stance, throwing, and all size)
Cassell has played a bit and hes done well and did well in preseason. I think he can definatley become a Schaub like player in value if he gets some playing time god forbid Brady gets hurt
Got to go with Jeff Garcia (for now) & Bruce Gradkowski....

I think anyone who doesn't say Huard or Garcia is a complete idiot! Schaub hasn't proven himself as a good backup. When has Vick been injured and then Schaub steps in?
