Discuss all week 8 games!

UCLA @ Oregon Thursday night should be a fun game. USF plays Cincy for some crappy Big East football Friday night. Michigan State/Northwestern, Syracuse/WVU, Notre Dame/Navy and Ole Miss/Arkansas are the early games. LSU plays Auburn in a huge SEC match up. Wisconsin/Iowa and Nebraska/Oklahoma State are two other top 20 match ups. GT also plays Clemson in the afternoon. Bama/Tenn, UNC/Miami, and OU/Mizzou are the late games. Washington plays Zona for the late west coast game.

Lol 2 point conversion, the Oregon offense is just not fair. Hope James is ok.

Uh-Oh... LaMichael James is on the turf. Does not look too serious, but it is his knee... This Oregon offense is incredible to watch. They are executing at a level that is better than any other team in the country by far. Chip Kelly has them in overdrive all the time.

Oregon is my #1 team. They have the best offense in the nation and while their defense isn't good they are an elite playmaking defense in college football and all they need is a coupe of big plays to support that offense. They have dynamite special teams as well. I know nobody likes Boise State, me included, but an Oregon vs Boise title game would be an absolute shoot out.

I agree, but I think there are a few matchups that would not be good for Oregon... A front 7 like Alabama or LSU would not be ideal for Oregon in a National title game... but overall I think they are the best team in the country. I don't think there is a dominant team this year by any means.

Man UCLA are being pathetic here, not even interested in trying to win this game, just trying to prevent a blowout, using the entire playclock on every single play so far, haven't snapped with more than 8 seconds left on it.

Honestly... If I'm a player and my coach says our offensive game plan is just to eat clock and try not to get blown out I tell him to **** off because I want to try and win. Rather get beaten by 100 trying to win than lose by 20 not even trying to win the game, what an embarrassing and pathetic approach to the game.

jnew76
10-21-2010, 08:58 PM

wogitalia
10-21-2010, 09:02 PM
And again... seriously... If I've spotted it surely the defense is, you are taking away your OLs advantage of knowing the snap if you wait until 2 seconds to snap every time, just asking for DL in the backfield...

Good article about their offense in the early part. Given, he still does have to actually make the throws, but it's still a gimmicky offense.

Pass patterns are minimal, which keeps the quarterback's mind from melting under the pace. Oregon runs hitch screens, then occasionally fakes a hitch screen and sends a receiver on the fake side deep. That's it -- that's the blur offense passing tree.

jnew76
10-21-2010, 09:14 PM
Reminds me of the 08-09 Oklahoma offense, only slightly more efficient. I mean in terms of efficiency, not necessarily style.

You guessed it!

They haven't snapped outside the 8 second mark on a single offensive play where the clock is running tonight... I get the idea of trying to rest the defense, but if something isn't working maybe mix it up. Basically they are telling the defense the snap count so it's no surprise that Oregon's front 7 is living in the backfield.

It just gets worse, OPI...

Disclaimer... the reason this is ******** me so much is I have Oregon on the line and over and the over is 62... Would be nice if UCLA isn't going to try and score if they would get off the field ;)

Still it's embarrassing watching a team that has no intention in trying to win play football...

Who knew that UCLA is just as bad as UNM?

Me ;).

Seriously though, I don't know what they expect when they aren't trying to win the game. Sends a clear message to the whole team because it was a clear game plan. You go out there on offense with the entire intention being to use up as much clock as possible and you are going to get smashed. Offense has to try and score, not run on 3rd and long just to ensure the clock is moving still for the punt...

Their defense didn't stand a chance and didn't know what hit them, but the offense compounded that by not even putting pressure on Oregon.

Only watched the 1st few mins. before I had to go but I have to give big kudos to Belotti & Helfrich for that gameplan. They were hitting on all cylinders in the 1st drive, every play for a 1st dn. & more.

It wasn't so much that UCLA's defense was tanking, they weren't out of position on those plays but did you notice how the Quack Attack effectively used downfield blocking? Every Bruin LB or DB close to the ballcarrier had a Duck in his face, & the running plays had huge holes opened.

I wondered why Masoli was dumb enough to smoke pot & steal & deal in stolen property or whatever else he did, to be thrown off this team with its A List offense, it may cost hm a NC ring. I have to lol at the preseason Steele mag & others that had SC taking it all in the Pac 10, that's what happens when you publish before the NCAA brings the hammer down on the Trojans with an ongoing investigation that everybody who follows college FB knew had been happening for yrs.

Everyone went gaga over Ohio St. after they beat this team last January in the Rose Bowl, I wonder if they would enjoy the same results in a rematch for the NC.

Auburn & Oklahoma St. both undefeated & home today, vs. LSU & Nebraska respectively.

Both formidable opponents for the unbeatens, opponents who have better defenses than offenses.

Predictions before kickoffs? I think Auburn wins by a hair, maybe a last second FG, but if LSU puts a spy on Newton & prevents his designed running plays they have a good chance for the upset.

Nebraska beats the Cowboys despite the $450M T. Boone Pickens poured into their athletic dept. & new stadium a yr ago.

I'm going to say it isnt uncommon. USC leads Cal 42-0 at the half and gets 2 FGs the rest of the way. UW jumps out to a 21-0 lead against the Beavers and doesnt score again till OT. Part of it is probably coaches going conservative and part just a letdown.
