Hmmmm......very interesting indeed. I don't know what to make of it.

If they are using a cell-phone, they are surely calling in their pick of Vince Lombardi into an "Intellectuals" draft.

Hahaha yes.

Someone said it could possibly be a hearing device that they used back in the day.

Seriously though, this reminds me of one of the greatest Star Trek episodes ever

No question, time traveler.

Rick Gosselin has been exposed!

Only way he could mock better than Scott.

The time traveler decided to dress up in the 1928 dress code, so they would fit in, but then decided they would use their cell phone on a movie set. Obviously shooped.

Saw this the other day. Orson Wells, anyone?

I have "The Circus" DVD at home. I gotta see this for myself.

It does look weird.

Thats craazy

Would cell phones work if you went back before there were towers though?

10-30-2010, 04:15 AM
i dont trust bald people

and **** no, no cell phone would work without towers/satellites

I think if we could find a way to make time travel work, we could probably find a way to make mobile communication devices work as well.

10-30-2010, 08:48 AM

look familiar? gebus, we already had this discussion in RDT

His hand looks empty to me.

It could not have been Sonotone in 1928

Prior to 1931 people using hearing aids actually wore headphones.

Edit: Just for the record, I am not advocating that this person is a time traveler. I do however feel that if we could become an advanced enough civilization to travel back in time, creating a mobile communication device that would work when ever we traveled to would not be a problem.

On the Siemens website they explain the technology of the 1924 hearing aid technology as this:

For a while, the carbon amplifier patented by Siemens played a major role in hearing aid technology and significantly raised the volume of hearing aids.

The electrical energy controlled by the carbon microphone was not fed to the receiver directly. It first drove the diaphragm of an electromagnetic system connected to a carbon-granule chamber. Current was transmitted across this chamber from the vibrating diaphragm electrode to the fixed electrode plate.

The amplified current produced mechanical vibrations in the electromagnetic hearing diaphragm that were then transmitted to the ear as sound.

This really does create an interesting set of events. What if a time traveler did find out they had been caught? Their only solution would be to travel back in time again and help create a company that made hearing aids that looked like cellular devices, thus covering their proverbial tracks.

as I said in another thread:
There were no cell towers, and there were would not be a way for her to charge said phone. You know what would happen if someone saw you back in that time walking around with something like that? They would think you were a ******* spy.

And even if that, how on earth would you get by not knowing local points of interest, not having any of their money (good luck buying US currency circa-1924) and having no immunities to the micro-organisms in the foods/water we are accustomed to?

Time travel is something I love to discuss, but let's be honest: the range at which it would be safe/logical to move forward or backwards in time would be limited and the act of traveling through time is dangerous on a level I cannot comprehend.

Your idea would, however, be trumped by the fact that the time traveler had gone back a second time and created a reason for someone to be holding a device to their ear like that.

I like how no one thinks its an ice pack.

It's either a time traveler or the person is a freakin' loon.

10-30-2010, 04:13 PM
Dont tell me any of you honestly believe its possible to time travel. You cant go back or change what's already done.

10-30-2010, 04:19 PM
Theoretically Possible :Yes
Pragmatically Feasible: No
