These people are puppets not musicians. If you were truly talented you would write your OWN songs and music and make it the real way. Not being handed a huge record deal by signing songs written by other people, and millions of TV watchers(who probably have no musical talent) vote for you. Me too. Only watched it season 4 & 5, except I did watch the auditions for this season and last season. I watched him last night and he was pretty bad. Simon summed it up by saying, "Look at the little girl over there." or something along those lines. And you know you did bad when only Randy and Simon critique you. Paula couldn't come up with her usual ********. I hope Sanjaya wins. Then the show would be ruined. I only like the show for the auditions anyways.

Ya know, even if Sanjaya wins, Idol isn't going anywhere. Sanjaya will probably get a temporary surge for record sales for listeners who want to get a kick out of it, a la Willaims Hung, but when he bombs down the stretch, the good runner-ups would pick up the pace.

I'm really tempted to agree with you bsaza2358 but I think the music industry has illustrated to us pretty clearly over the last decade or so that talent isn't the determining factor in star-power anymore. Real ability without a really good connect to the industry results in a job waiting tables at the local greasy spoon. The music industry isn't interested in "discovering" or "developing" talent anymore.

Very, very true. Packaged music and the like have taken over. You don't need talent, but you need image and airplay on stuff like MTV. The music doesn't matter, but the sales do. It's not the best music show around, but it doesn't allow rap. so that is a plus for me.

I was in Britain recently and I believe the fans vote at first. And then the judges choose from the two or three with the lowest amount of votes. Also the voting happens on the same night. They have the hour long show with the performances. Then another show comes on for an hour. Then Idol comes back on for a half hour show with the results.

I saw on one of those stupid Access Hollywood type shows that this year in England they are strictly judge voted. They went as far as to cancel the onld show and rename it as to avoid confusion

I could be wrong. I know its called "X Factor" or "Factor X". Sharon Osbourne is one of the judges along with Simon and some old guy. And you are allowed to audition and be in the show as a group or duo as well.

As you INSULT someone on a message board might be a better way to say it. This guy is probably still in high school, so he spends one night a week(probably a school night where he can't really go out anyway) calling a number while he is bored. How does that make him not have a life? Admittedly, that's probably true. Sanjaya has no chance of winning. He's getting enough of the vote to stay in it....but as the vote becomes less divided as people get kicked off, the amount he's getting won't be enough. Still, it's fun while it lasts. It isn't helping it, but it isnt hurting it either. American Idol doesn't get more viewers because of this, and hell, it already gets all the publicity it needs, regardless of Sanjaya or not.
