Win or go home.

Nothing else sums it up better.

Prediction; 42-27. I feel like Rodgers comes out with a fire, we beat them on some deep passes and a surprisingly decent run game to take an early lead. They fight back a bit in the 3rd, then we knife them in the 4th.

The Giants are missing Steve Smith, and Mathias Kiwanuka, so they actually have 2 good guys out for the year.
Not as bad as us, but those hurt.

Ahmad Bradshaw is the #1 worry I have on their offense.

I think we'll do fine stopping Jacobs, although we really really miss Cullen Jenkins. That guy needs a new calf.

I Think we'll do fine with Hakeem Nicks. We contained Roddy White, Miles Austin, and DeSean Jackson this year, probably the best 3 receivers we faced.
Brandon Marshall did good though, but he's huge.

But Bradshaw, the same little b*st*rd who scored the key TD in the NFCCG against us as a rookie, is a guy who can break our guys arm tackles and then score.

You never root for injuries, or wish them on anyone. But they happen.
I can tell you that if his ankle is the one that gets a high sprain on early in the game, it won't hurt my feelings.

Still, their DL and that blitzing ****** linebacker Michael Boley, who took out Romo are the ones who worry me. I think he's only 225 pounds, but he's hurt a few QBs.

I want to see Brandon Jackson stick that guy on his first blitz, right in the chin helmet to helmet with a block, and send him to seeing stars.

Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora are the big worries. I don't have faith in Bulaga because he seems to have one or two total F-ups every game, and in our games where every loss is a 3-4 point loss, those one or two plays are often enough to help kill us.

Giants 20
Packers 17

(My attempt at jinxing those **** Giants)

I'm OK with this match up. I expect a game plan that takes into consideration the Giants blitz and we'll be able to neutralize it well enough. If we spread out their defense like we are capable of doing I like the match ups we will draw against their 3rd/4th/5th cover guys and Rodgers will get the ball out fast enough. Also, Rodgers always does better against a 4-3 because he can buy time a lot easier being chased by a DE than a OLB.

Defensively, we have done a great job against the run except for 2 games. Atlanta we had trouble in the dome and bringing down Turner. Jacobs/Bradshaw will go down a lot faster if we hit him like we did Turner because they aren't as strong lower bodied and they are playing in Lambeau, not a stupid dome. The other game was Miami which was right in the thick of the front 7 injuries and before we adjusted.

In the passing game, Eli will give us chances to get turnovers and when we get turnovers we usually win. If just 1 interception or fumble recovery went our way vs. NE or ATL we probably would have won those games. Woodson and co. are going to be extremely amped up looking for redemption and they will get their chances. I expect them to take advantage and that will be the difference in the game.

This is a bold prediction: we win a close one 24-21

I'm definitely getting sick of bringing up injuries, but what # ROLB are we down to at this point?

Brad Jones - out
Brandon Chillar - out
Frank Zombo - doubtful
Eric Walden - quest
Diyral Briggs - quest
Robert Fancois - maybe moves
Curtis Young - might get promoted from PS but probably not since it's Sunday and we haven't heard about it

so we went from last year's 7th round pick to moving an ILB outside to a rookie UDFA to a street FA in the middle of the year to another of the same to probably moving whatever Francois was, probably a UDFA last year who we cut this year out of position or considering promoting another UDFA who didn't make the roster...talk about pitiful

edit: forgot to throw Brady Poppinga in that mix somewhere as well

that puts us at our #7 guy starting, which is like 2 rosters worth of ROLBs have gone down

This game is going to hinge on turnovers and big plays. If we can force some turnovers I think we have a chance. This is also a big game to start form tackling in. Jacobs could plow over some people like Michael Turner did to us, Bradshaw has some speed to take it the distance if he breaks one, and Nicks is a tough guy to bring down himself.

IMO its a 50/50 toss up but I don't think we'll win. I could see us beating ourselves yet again for the 7th time this season.

Couldn't agree more. Just about every game we've lost this year it's because we didn't force a single turnover. I'm pretty sure against NE and the Bears and definitely against ATL we didn't force a turnover and lost by 1 possession. They also all had 1 or 2 big plays more than we did.

NYG throws interceptions and Bradshaw (Jacobs to a lesser extent) have fumbling problems. If we can take advantage of that we will win. Their weaknesses in ball security are the top reason I like GB to win this game.

All that above, really I think that's a testament to AJ Hawk & his durability so far as a Packer. A lot of people take that for granted.

McCarthy & Thompson do not. They mention "availability" all the time.

Hawk doesn't light it up with big loud plays and showboating, etc. but he's pretty solid, and he's just been very reliable for us. Wish we could say the same thing for Cullen Jenkins, Nick Barnett, Brad Jones, and Atari Bigby.

This backfield is actually looking decent with how it's fallen into place. Nance, Kuhn and Jackson are all running hard and capable of doing different things. This could be a dangerous team if we can run the ball. We are seeing it in quarter 1 against the Giants.

I have CB as our #1 need solely because of Woodson's dropoff in play. I'd say move him to safety but I'd hate to hinder the progress of Burnett.

12-26-2010, 04:20 PM
Bad fumble by Jordy but I'm not going to blame him too much. Stretching the ball right over the 1st down marker was a good decision, bad execution, and unlucky.

This team is beautiful to watch when it's clicking on all cylinders. They play so much better with the lead. The defense has more confidence. The offensive playbook gets opened up and the playcalling is better.

umphrey

Nice 21-14! Maybe we can get a pick in these last 2 minutes while the Giants are in hurry up.

Rodgers is dialed in. This is as high a level as I've ever seen out of him. Aside from the 1st or 2nd play he's been perfect. Jennings is making the Giants secondary his whipping boy.

umphrey
12-26-2010, 04:48 PM
I wish Nick Collins could have held on to that INT giving us a 2 score lead when we kick off to the Giants but I'm not going to complain. It feels so good to be a score ahead in a big, close game instead of the score behind we usually are. It looks a lot easier for us to move the ball than the Giants and their special teams look as bad as ours. Speaking of, can we just take touchbacks from now on? Seems like half the time we are inside our own 20 and never out past the 30.

Sportsfan486
12-26-2010, 04:53 PM
I still can't believe Collins whiffed on that INT, that was probably six. Damn.

Playing DUMB football so far. Both TD passes have been AWFUL plays by the CB to give them wide open TDs. Jordy.. sigh.

They definitely lied. Either that or thousands of others who studied the situation including myself are wrong.

Rants & Raves

Raves:
-Aaron Rodgers, just outstanding today. Over 400 yards, 4 touchdowns, and would have been 5 if James Jones had the same golves as Jennings and Driver did today.

-Donald Driver, not a lot of catches today, but all 3 were noteworthy. The first was a tough catch but then he drew the personal foul on the thug Terrelle Thomas. Then DD had 2 great catches.

-Greg Jennings, except for dropping the pass in the Lions game which helped lose that game, he's been on fire the past 2 months. His route running is crisp and precise, and he's a threat for YAC to the house every time he catches it. Great deep catch the play after Donald made his diving catch.

-The whole Offensive Line, which was the concern coming in. They made the Giants DL look like the Seahawks or Broncos.

-Brandon Jackson. What? No not his running, but he picked up some blitzes from the same guy that came in and knocked out 2 QBs earlier in the season, including Tony Romo. Sometimes a coach is more willing to sacrifice a little gamebreaking running to have a sure blocker.

-Dimitri Nance and John Kuhn. Of course Kuhn was great, but Nance ran hard too... especially behind his fellow dreadlocked brother Quinn Johnson.

-BJ Raji, Clay Matthews, AJ Hawk... Hawk keeps doing his job quietly, has been very durable. Raji stuffed that pocket all afternoon long, and Matthews... what an animal. Sad that he didn't get any sacks, but he worked his ass off and attracts so much attention, helping others. Also, his hustle and speed on that important fumble strip.

Desmond Bishop for being quick thinking and scooping that fumble back in bounds, which Nick Collins brilliantly recovered.

Rants:
Jordyzzz speed on the opening 80-yard TD was awesome, running right past Antrel Rolle. But his fumble with the score 14-7 cost us at least 3 points, and a 17-7 or 21-7 lead. One play later it was 14-14. That's how we have lost some games this year. We have to stop those horrible errors that turn the momentum around.

James Jones hands.... what the hell? We saw Donald make a phenomenal left handed stick catch, and Jennings a great fingertip catch, but Jones dropped 2 great passes from Rodgers which would have been another TD and about 100 yards.

Tramon Williams and Charles Woodson's cleats. What the hell happened on those 2 touchdown passes? Woodson just slipped, and Tramon, he looked like he got dizzy or something.

MY GAMEBALL:
Mike McCarthy.
What a great game he called on offense.... the Giants couldn't stop us at all. We stopped ourselves the only time they did stop us.
We've had a chance to win every single game this year, and as we all know, all of our losses were close ones where usually we outplayed the other team.
But 3 horrible calls in the Bears game by the refs on us, plus letting Hester score with 2 blocks in the back, and James Jones fumbling late.... a fumbled sneak in Atlanta, a fluke 80-yard kick return by an offensive linemen.... a hit post on a game-winning FG in Washington, a bullschit penalty call on us on a Dolphins punt late in a tie game..... all this with a beat up defense and missing our key TE and RB all year long.

And some fans think McCarthy should be fired?

He can't control those flukey things or bad zebra calls. He's made some mistakes, but no coach is perfect even Belichick, whom McCarthy outcoached last week by the way.

That was just a fun game to watch. The crowd was amazing today. They were very loud from start to finish, and were cracking me up with all the KUUUUUHN chants whenever they got inside the 5 yard line. Loved when it was 31-17, Packers have 1st and goal at around the 5, and Jackson runs for 1 yard. Crowd starts booing, then it shows the Pack offense huddling up, and you suddenly hear a loud cheer from the crowd, which obviously meant that Kuhn was coming off the sideline into the game. Next play, TD to Kuhn and the crowd is just going wild

Also loved the "Bears Still Suck" chant towards the end of the game. I couldn't make out what they were saying at first, but I'm pretty confident it was that

Packers are basically playing in playoff mode now. This was the first playoff game. They got 5 more left.

Desmond Bishop for being quick thinking and scooping that fumble back in bounds, which Nick Collins brilliantly recovered.

Bishop(on his tipping the ball back inbounds on Green Bay’s late fumble recovery) “I seen it, I wanted to get it so bad. My momentum was taking me out of bounds and I didn’t want to go out of bounds because it would be a dead ball, so I just tipped it back, kept it in play and hopefully one of our guys get it, and I was fortunate enough that we got it.”

Great awareness by Des. I really hope the Packers bring him back. Guy has been awesome this year

James Jones hands.... what the hell? We saw Donald make a phenomenal left handed stick catch, and Jennings a great fingertip catch, but Jones dropped 2 great passes from Rodgers which would have been another TD and about 100 yards.

This is why I just don't want to see Jones back next season. The guy is just too inconsistent to rely upon. He has great skills, and he'll make a great play or 2...then follow it up with just a horrendous drop or critical fumble. He also comes off as a bit lazy, as I've seen him just not even fight the DB for a jumpball. At least try to knock it down and don't give up the INT. I'm ready to move on from him

J-Mike88
12-27-2010, 08:02 AM
We drafted Jones in the 3rd round, and he's been up & down.
Rodgers has some chemistry with him and Jordy, and Donald is slowly starting to slide down the pecking order.

I like James a lot personally. I agree he doesn't have that fire out there, and screws up too often. Still, unless we could get a pick higher than we used on him, I wouldn't want to trade him. I can't imagine anyone would give a 2nd rounder for him. Maybe St Louis or Cleveland would, or Washington. They have holes at WR. Jones has some good film. Just a lot of bad film too.

This is a game that just shows how capable we are playing like every week. If we played like this or even 20% less than this I still feel like we'd be undefeated right now.
That's true. Think about each of the 6 losses.... a post in Washington, a ridiculous penalty call on a punt in the Miami game. Jennings dropping an easy TD in Detroit that turned into an Int, then Rodgers getting hurt.
Dominating the Bears but the refs calling 18 penalties on us, letting them clip us on Hester's PR TD, dominating the Patriots more than 2-1 in time of possession, with our backup QB, and outplaying the Falcons in Atlanta... one damn fumbled sneak and a bad KR allowed late.

All this with more significant injuries than any other team in the NFL.

When we play our game, don't screw up, and don't get screwed by the zebra's, we are as good as anyone from Atlanta to New England. The Saints are the team that I respect the most.
