Eagles Sign DT Reagor to 3 year 8.25 mil contract

As an Eagles fan, I'm not particularly excited about this signing. I would have liked the Eagles to address the LB situation, how many guys can you have in the trenches? Now we have Kearse, Howard, Cole, Thomas, Patterson, Bunkley, Walker, Rayburn, Ramsey, Reagor. That is way too many guys to have there when at LB you have Trotter, Gocong, McCoy, Jones, Gaither.

Well, they like using a rotation. And they like having depth on the line. We just saw the Giants dline get completely destroyed this past year, so maybe theyre taking precaution and getting another body.

Plus, who knows, maybe someone is on his way out, ie will get cut from the current roster.

As for the LBs, Philly never built their defense around that position, especially OLB. As far as I can remember, they built around the dline and secondary. The OLBs in this scheme aren't that important.

Slow down there, guys. Signing Reagor is not an indication about Bunkley's success or failure. While he wasn't a big contributor last year, Bunk is going to be a huge piece in the coming years. He has been in Philly all offseason working out and working on technique. He will be much improved next season.

If anything, I would say this signing does not bode well for Darwin Walker and/or Sam Rayburn. Bunkley, Patterson, and now Reagor are a lock to make the roster. Ramsey will likely make it because he is a low cost option. That means Walker and Rayburn are battling for 1 roster spot total. It is also not out of the question for both to be either traded or cut.

There is nothing wrong with having DLine depth. Reagor is a good 1-gap style DT, and he will do well in the Eagles' scheme working in a rotation. I think it was a solid signing, and the value is certainly there. I like the move.

Personally i'm a fan of having depth at the D-Line. Some of the bigger DT's get tired later in the game and it's always nice to know you have a quality backup to replace them. Reagor's a solid player, and they didn't sign him for too much money. This does nothing but add to a pretty good Eagles defense.

The Eagles ideally would like to have 8 or 9 productive DLinemen. For the first 2 games last season, they were using Kearse and Howard at DE with Walker and Patterson for 4 plays or so, then bringing in J Thomas, Cole, Ramsey, and Rayburn 4 plays later, then rotating back. They were getting a killer push from that kind of a rotation. When Kearse got injured, that pretty much killed that idea. Adding Reagor adds depth and push up the middle. I will never argue with that.

yeah Im a major fan of using a rotational DL. IMO, a rotating group of solid players can be just as effective as a line with all-pros who play every down. Not a major signing, but a solid pickup.

For the Colts, this reinforces their need at DT...Any word on Corey Simon and if they have any plans of bringing him back?

I'm a big fan of depth at every position. Reagor is a good penetrator at DT, but his ability to stuff the run is somewhat questionable. I think he's better at this point than Darwin Walker was last season. Given Walker's age and salary, he could be cut or traded very soon.

The Colts have predictably lost a lot of players from their Super Bowl winning roster. They need a DT, and I am sure they will address the matter in either FA or in the draft.

For the Eagles, a rotational guy will still get 30-40 snaps a game. They rotate early and often in every game, when they are able. If Reagor can get sacks and hold up at the point of attack, he will earn his salary. He is a borderline starting caliber DT IMO. For the Eagles to get him, they had to pay him. I'm perfectly fine using him for many snaps and in obvious passing situations.

I think the eagles are definately going to use Walker for trade bait on draft day but I don't think we can get a 3rd rounder for him at all.

I agree with Toon. There is little chance Walker nets a third rounder. Fourth is more likely, and even that's a stretch in some quarters.

Walker would be worth a fourth or fifth straight up, but I beleive he was talking about moving up in the third to get a prospect in the middle of the third. That I find as a possibility.

I am pretty sure that Walker will be trade at some point, but if we are unable to trade him, we will most likely keep him and release Rayburn.

I see no reason to keep Walker at this point. There are now 2 better options on the roster in Patterson and Reagor. I don't mention Bunkley because Walker is more of an Under Tackle. The team could still add a stout run stuffer at some point. I wouldn't mind that in the least.

Well Reagor didn't play during the SB. But you're right, DT is the biggest need for us.
