I actually really like this mock draft. I could see every pick happening, however I'm not entirely sold on Mason Foster going in the 1st round and while I could certainly see Aldon Smith going to the Detroit Lions, I still think they'd give Akeem Ayers some strong consideration.

My Chiefs insider on this board (don't worry it wasn't Morton) pointed me in this direction. Richardson struggled down the stretch and could definitely be upgraded. He's okay as a swing tackle but shouldn't be starting. I can understand you're desire for a WR opposite of Bowe but I think that the team might address that need outside of the first round whether that's via trade or free agency. Pass rusher was certainly an option but Pioli has never gone with OLB/pass rushing type early in the draft and I think the team might try to continue to develop its young guys at that position. Also, there are no 3-4 NT's worth taking at this point. Sherrod is a solid pick, with solid value who could be able to come in and contribute right away.

Really? Nate Solder to the Phins? EPIC FAIL.

OT is absolutely not a first round need for us. Are you kidding me!? We may April with no running backs under contract AT ALL and we would pass on Mark Ingram for NATE SOLDER!? Yeah, that's gonna happen... :/

The Dolphins are always a tough pick for me this year. You guys don't have any pressing needs that match up with value and have a lot of young players at core positions. Could Ingram be an option? Sure. We'll have to see how Ronnie and Ricky's contract situation works out. Also I think Solder will be viewed as a better value among NFL people. I wasn't aware Dolphins fan were so comfortable with Vernon Carey at RT. Every team in your division runs a 3-4 and you're going to need someone who is athletic enough to handle those edge rushers. I know you guys have some issues on the interior of the line and thought this pick could kill two birds with one stone. Kick Carey inside to guard (where he's better suited imo) and let Solder be a bookend tackle opposite of Jake.

Lions don't really need a DE. KVB's injury isn't serious and he will be back. Avril had a break out season. Lawrence Jackson and Turk McBride played really well. Its hard to tell you who else to draft but I'd rather address a different position.

Well that's the issue with the Lions. Their needs don't match up with the value in the draft. I don't see any CB's or OLB's worth taking at #13. Possibly Von Miller but he still has a lot to prove in coverage, especially in a defense where he won't be asked to blitz very much. And Akeem Ayers is soft and I suspect he'll go lower than he's currently being projected.

I went DE because the value is good and you can never have enough quality pass rushers. The D-Line has always been very deep and a focal point of a Jim Schwartz coached team.

I really doubt he plays 4-3 DE in the pros. He has a prototypical size and skill set to play DE in a 3-4 and more than likely, that's where he'll end up playing in the NFL. He's a 6'5 290 and has rotated between DE and DT for the Buckeyes. The DE position was a revolving door for the Pats this year and they could upgrade the talent there.

Vernon Carey has turned out to be a very solid RT for us, not spectacular, but he gets the job done. Ricky and Ronnie are not expected back, so Ingram should be the pick there.

Locker has the more physical tools then Gabbert.Very mobile and has a stronger arm passing . Don't need insider info.I"m just saying Locker is the more no brainier pick to me.If we have to take a chance on a young QB I would rather do it with Locker who has more potential etc.

Or is it because you're from Washington, Locker is your favorite player and the 49ers are your favorite team? Mock drafts are about predicting and projecting what you think will happen, not what you want to happen.

I don't get why everyone keeps giving us Newton? Word out of DC (from someone known to on the inside with the team) says Shanahan isn't set on a QB this draft and must be really blown away to take one at 10. That said its not impossible but Gabbert and Locker fit what he would want based on prior QBs. I believe you don't take a player top 10 that doesn't fit what you are looking for and make him that, you take a sure fire fit and talent. That said id take Jones in that spot and be very happy.

Yea because reaching for a QB just to have one is necessary. We're way off from being a good team, we can sign a FA or wait until next year if need be. This pick needs to hit. If Shanny doesn't like any of the QB's then why would we reach?

i understand the rationale for giving us newton but at the same time this comment is absolutely ridiculous. just because we dont draft a QB at 10 doesnt make grossman our "franchise" qb. no one says we have to draft the qb of the future this year with the 10th pick. shanahan might look at a qb at the top of the 2nd or maybe he builds the trenches or fills other needs (we have a lot) this year before taking a franchise qb next year. bottom line, there are a lot of ways this could play out and grossman being the franchise qb isnt one of them.

I'm just if we have to take a chance on a QB in the top ten why not take Locker.I'm ok with a CB other wise .It is as big as need as a QB is really.I would just feel more at ease with taking Locker if we do .Not saying that SF will.I do like Stanzi or Dalton in later if SF goes that way too.Just saying.

Great insight

Anyone without a Brady or Manning or a Rodgers should select the first QB they see just so they have someone to label a franchise QB for a year or two?

Newton doesn't turn the team into a playoff team. Improved OL and DL play will improve this team. Not OL is worthy of #10. Dareus would be a great piece to add. If he isn't available then someone like Quinn, Jones or Watt even. For Grossman to play above expectations isnt out of the question but only asinine people like you label him a franchise QB.

A GM never has to do anything. That's how we got Alex Smithed.

What happens to a slant that isn't on target?

What happens when your west coast qb pulls the ball down on a three step drop instead of getting rid of it?

I think the answers to those questions are reasons to ease off your stance on Locker by a round.

If the Cowboys pick Jordan, do you foresee Rob Ryan keeping Ratliff at NT? Or if Ratliff moves to DE, is Jordan then a replacement for Olshansky?

There is still some uncertainty how the Rob Ryan hire will change the defense schematically. We know he likes to give a lot of different looks and should run a base 3-4. The question of what to do with Ratliff is a tricky one. I think often times we overthink and overanalyze position changes of established players but sometimes there is a 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality among NFL teams. On the same hand, we've seen Ryan utilize some huge bodies in the middle such as Shaun Rodgers and Atyba Rubin. But for all we think about Wade and his undersized, 1-gap penetrating NT's because of what Ratliff did, remember, he had a 340+ pound Jamal Williams back in San Diego. So with all that taken into consideration, I still don't know what the hell they're going to do with Jay Ratliff.

As for Jordan, the thing that he brings that is very appealing is versatility. He has shown the ability to play three different positions, 3-4 DE and both DE and DT in a 4-3. I think he can be an effective full time player at any of those positions. Also with the all 30/40/46/(?) type fronts in Ryan's defense, having a guy with that versatility becomes even more valuable. If I'm not mistaken, Spears is FA and might walk. The talent on that D-Line needed an upgrade regardless and Jordan can offer that.
