He's had alot of drops against everyone not named the Chicago Bears haha

Drops are what's preventing him from being on the Gronk/Graham pedestal of TEs. The ability is there. But he has to catch the damn ball.

It will be interesting to see if Fewell runs more man vs you guys this time around. The last time our teams met Fewell was in full flown rush 3 cover 2 mode, unleashing what I call "the Perry Fewell special" all game long. Since then he's simplified the defense and has run more man coverages and basic cover 2 zones, without his complicated checks that require players to drop into different zones depending on the packages, formations, and motions.

He hasn't rushed 3 in a couple of games now, hopefully we don't see that garbage ever again.

I think we're going to see something similar to what he threw at the Pats in the SB even though that wasn't Fewell. Lots of press coverage and limited blitzing if the front 4 can do it's job. We need to hit Rodgers early and often even if it doesn't result in a sack.

Let's not get caught up in the moment. I love Chase, and hope he never puts on another uniform, but spending money on both of these guys would be foolish.

Giving out bad contracts gets you in cap hell. Can't do it.

psssh, they wouldn't be making over 2 mil combine a year haha. i'm not saying give 'em each 5 mil a year...I just want them hear forever. it's just that

I think we are silent in anticipation at this point.

Pretty much, I still expect Perry Fewell to go full ****** at any moment, for JPP to stop being able ot just dominate the way he has, for the running game to shove its head back up it's own ass and for some receivers to start getting confused...but god damn it do I want the giants to win this game. i didn't mind losing to the Falcons, or Saints, or even 49ers, but **** the god damn packers.

I'm concerned we are getting too much love in the media this week. The Packers are 15-1, yet a good amount of people are picking us to win. I don't like that at all, because we always seem to be better the fewer people believe in us.

I'm not expecting much this sunday, just please don't get blown out. Make it a close game at least.

Eli will. He uses Ballard and Ballard is slower than a 1 legged turtle. Let's get one and go from there. After seeing all these TEs working the middle of the field and doing damage, I want that! Passing league, and if we have a shot at one, then pull the trigger.

I like our balance. I'm not one to waste such a high pick on a TE like that when we can strengthen other areas. If Fleener is there in the late 2nd ok but after him I'd rather just gamble late on someone else in the draft.

I would really like to see Eli in a completely different offense, and a potent TE that gets utilized in the passing game primarily. I always felt it would drop his INT numbers down. I think in a different offense more people would recognize Eli's skills.

Brees threw the ball like 65 times for goodness sakes lol. That's nuts, but that's the era we are in now.

A different system would benefit a lot of our players but it's also hard to fault the system when we score the way we do. I used to absolutely hate it but now I 90% hate the system because it does work. The biggest benefactor would be Manningham and as you said Eli's INT's would drop a tad and his completion percentage would also go up. As Giants fans though we know what we have so it's all good.

If we do draft a TE this year I am hoping for Ladarius Green or Michael Egnew. Green is 6-6, 235, Egnew is 6-5, 245, and they both run about 4.6 40's. Adding either one of them opposite of Ballard would open up this offense a lot. Also, they could both be had in round 3-4.

I've only seen bits and pieces of Egnew, but I love the things he does. He has the potential to be a really good TE in the league. Would definetly be down with him in round 3 or 4.

I would love that! Look at all these passing systems! Amazing TEs we saw yesterday. Well they just don't run the ball. Granted they were down, but they still threw the ball when they stabalized the game.

Coughlin has a boner for balance. I understand that, but in this new era, screw it! It's nice to run the ball, but that's where our identity gets interesting. I always said from day 1, I would love to see Eli in a different system. That's when we had Hufangel. He got fired, thank god. Now we have Gilbride/Coughlin, and I wish we can change it.

I think Eli would be even more productive in a different system.

Good win guys. Giants took it to the Pack. Very disappointed in their play. 12 turnovers all year and had 4 yesterday + 8 or so drops. Giants showed what having a pass rush means. They forced that fumble on Rodgers...and if he just got a split second more time he had Jennings open for a TD

Pack's pass rush was a huge issue all year and it's no surprise the lack of it hurt them in the playoffs vs a good QB. It is what it is. Giants showed up and punched them in the mouth and GB didn't answer back

good luck the rest of the way.

Those are the guys I definitely want back. Grant and Ross depend on their price tags. I'd like McKenzie back but realistically they won't resign him, he'll retire and he's really not that good anymore anyway. Plus it would be a bad contract, and I hate giving out bad contracts.

With Luke Keuchly pretty much out of sight at this point, I want us to go after Curtis Lofton in FA.

Then we can draft Konz at 29 (our current draft position barring a SB appearance). I want Baas either moved to G or benched or cut. He's been awful. That was a bad FA signing.

This game in SF is going to be tough. I think it's a 50/50 thing that we go in there and win.

I know it's cliche to say, but this game is going to be determined by turnovers and redzone offense.

Whoever scores touchdowns and doesn't turn it over wins.

bigbluedefense

Initially, I was opposed to bringing Mario back bc I thought he'd demand more money than he's worth.

But then I starting thinking about it, and I realized that with our system on offense, chemistry is so important that you want to keep this 3 man core around as long as possible. This isn't a system that a rookie can step into and dominate right away. It takes years to master. Hell, none of our WRs are entirely great in it yet, the only WR we had that understood the system to a T was Smith.

So bringing Mario back and having that 3 man core of him, Cruz, and Nicks develop together with Manning is a smart move. And all 3 can take it to the house, that vertical ability of our WR core is pretty valuable.

We need to upgrade our oline and RB though. We need a pass catching RB and a new Jacobs type of bruising RB as our change up.

Jughead10
01-17-2012, 12:44 PM
You think Smith could be cheaper than bringing back Mario. Just something to consider to free up room elsewhere. I'd also like a veteran CB on this team if Ross leaves.

bigbluedefense
01-17-2012, 12:47 PM
Smith would be my plan B in case Mario demands too much. But that's a wildcard too bc you don't know how healthy Smith is and if he'll ever be healthy again.

Plus, while I love Smith, and Lord knows I love Smith, Cruz has gotten so good in the slot that I rather keep Cruz in the slot and have another vertical guy on the outside in our 3 WR sets.

If we bring Smith back, he'll be slot and Cruz will be on the outside. Cruz started the season out better on the outside than in the slot, but he's developed so much over the year that he's definitely a more dangerous slot guy now.

I think we have to give Prince a shot as our 3rd CB next year if we can't afford to keep Ross. Fwiw, Prince has looked great the past 2 weeks when we asked him to play press man. He can't play zone for ****, but he looked damn good in press man out there.

Jughead10
01-17-2012, 12:49 PM
I agree about Prince as our nickel. But I still want a veteran 4 option. I would like to actually see Rolle play safety eventually. And one injury and he'll be right back there unless we have a veteran option. That RW McQuarters type. A guy who has been around the league and knows he isn't signing to start. Depth and special teams, but experience if he needs to be called on.

I don't see us re-signing Bernard. Which means we'd only have 3 DTs worth a damn on defense: Canty, Joseph, and Austin. And to be fair, I'm not the biggest Austin fan. So we really only have 2 dependable DTs on the roster as far as I'm concerned.

I wouldn't mind drafting a 4th guy to push the other 3 for playing time. Depth can't hurt. I'm not saying draft 1 in the first 3 rounds, but a guy in the 4th would be nice.

There's a ton of turnover every year though. Compare our starting roster at the end of the 2010 season to our roster right now. We had a ton of turnover this year compared to last year.

And next year will be no different. And the year after that and the year after that etc. It's why drafting well is so important to having a consistently great team.

: P

That's what we need. Catch a pass and drop into the fetal position! What makes us cash money is that all 3 guys can take to the hizzy at any given time. Smith isn't going to break tackles and take it 86 yards. We can sign him as depth, but if MM leaves I want someone explosive to replace him. We can't slack off just because one guy leaves.

I can agree with that. But it depends on the board as always. If the best available DT is significantly better than the best available player in all those above positions, I say we take him. It all depends on the board like always.

We have a logjam inside, we need OTs. Im ok with Diehl playing LT again next year. He's good ol reliable. He's not great, but he doesn't suck either. That's good enough with Eli at qb.

Petrus should start next year at LG. I want Konz at C but I know that's wishful thinking bc we had the horrible mistake of signing Baas, so we're stuck with him unfortunately, Snee has a couple of years left in the tank at RG even though he's not nearly as good as he used to be. We need a RT. I wouldn't bet on Brewer, we need another guy to compete for that spot. I don't like Beatty at RT bc he's soft. He's just a bust, let's face it.

In a perfect world, we draft Konz, cut Baas, start Petrus at LG, move Diehl to RT and find a great LT from somewhere, but that's not happening. We have to mix and match and see what we can piece together.

I think Baas has been pretty good since the Jets game. I'd like to give him a full offseason with his teammates as well. C is a very difficult position to play with no training camps and learning a whole new system. Throw some of the injuries and he's been behind the 8 ball all year.

The next game is going to be a 1980's style slugg it out type game that I will love. Its sort of sad that Samurai Mike built that D and he didn't get a chance to taste success. He also was instrumental in getting Vernon Davis to step up his game. His handling of the QB position did him in.

I really like the idea of bringing in Curtis Lofton, however I'm not sure that the Falcons allow him to walk. How are we on Burfict? His draft stock has been taking a pounding. It seems like he will be around by the time we pick. Do any of you think Geno Hayes would workout for us. He is a Tampa 2 guy that can run.

As for the dynamic HB, it appears that you want Lamar Miller.

I would be happy with a RT/LT tweener. A guy who can slot in at Lt for Kareem, and could also challenge Beatty at LT. Deihl then moves back to beasting at G.

This is where I'm at with Baas aswell. Especially if we're bringing one kid into the mix in Petrus already. Let him play between Diehl and Baas for a year and I think our inside will be just fine. I do agree that getting another young OT with top end upside to polish would be huge whether to replace McKenzie immediately or to groom behind Diehl for a bit, but another youngin needs to be brought in. I still have hope that Beatty can put it together this next year but that's all it is, hope, I have no expectations for him although I do think he could still prove me wrong, but either way we need a guy to develop and if Beatty turns it on then we have one of them good problems.

Other than that we need an MLB, S (replace grant) and TE

Let's keep him as a backup swing tackle and move on.

I think the take home message in this year's Beatty experiment is that Diehl isn't really that bad of a LT. We can manage with Diehl. We don't have to have to upgrade the position. We all probably took him for granted all these years.

In fact, I'd say Diehl is better at LT than LG now. He's probably so used to it that he's just better at it.

Giantsfan1080

I've always said Diehl has been one of the most underrated Giants of the Coughlin/Manning era. He's never missed a game, plays his ass off, and at worst has been an average OL. He'll be missed when gone. I'm fine with Diehl sticking at LT until then. Maybe next year we see Diehl/Petrus/Baas/Snee/Beatty(Brewer).

The 49ers' scoring drives this season started at their 46 yard line on average.

Stat given by Coughlin

amazing stat!

Eli confirms all our suspicions about the NY Oilers offense
gmenhq : 11:35 am
Q: Talk about the impact Kevin Gilbride has had on your career.

A: Coach Gilbride and I have a very close relationship. When I first got here, he was the quarterbacks coach, so I sat in all the meetings with him. A lot of the plays we were running then, even though he wasnít the offensive coordinator, were his plays and stuff he knew very well. So I got to kind of learn from him, and hearing him directly and watching old film of the Oilers and different things when they were running it. Itís the only offense Iíve been in, itís what I know. We think the same way on a lot of things and certain looks. A lot of times he doesnít even need to finish his sentence, because Iím already on the same page. I feel very comfortable with him and telling him my thoughts and listening to him. Itís a great relationship and we work well together.

Q: Whatís the best thing you like about his play calls?
gmenhq : 12:05 pm
A: I think with Coach Gilbride, he wants to throw the ball, I think. He has a quarterback mentality. He also knows, heís going to be smart and if weíre running it, weíre going to continue to run it. Itís kind of whatever is working. On Sundays if weíre not running it really well and weíre throwing it well, Iíll just go up to him and say, ĎHey, they canít stop us throwing it, letís just keep throwing it.í And he kind of gets a smile, I think thatís what he likes to hear. He wants to throw it and he wants to be consistent and find completions, but he likes to get the ball downfield and hit some big plays.

Stat given by Coughlin

Yeah they led on both ends. I wish we had good special teams. But a lot of that is from holding opposing offenses to 3 and outs.

Bottom line is the 49ers offense is fairly simplistic. There is no beating around the bush. But with everything else they have going for them, it has been enough. We just can't allow broken plays and free men running around. Because when you let that happen, you are just giving them the game. I like to think if we had Boley for a full game last time, we'd have gone have won or at least gone to OT. It's impossible to say, but with him out our defense was swiss cheese. And any QB would have torn it apart.

I think it's pretty amazing. However, I did like the Eli and offensive system thing with Gilbride I wish we throw more in the red zone. Stick with what works, don't call a running play just because of balance sake. But the WR rules have some of the run and shoot element of it, specifically with the option and choice routes.

SMH....I dont understand where opposing fans get the this notion that Singletary built this defense. Singletary had NOTHING to do with personel, aside for beating the drum for Baalke to draft the stiff known as Taylor Mays. Mike Nolan deserves the credit for assembling most of the talent for this defense. Ray McDonald, Sopoaga, Haralson, Willis, T. Brown, and Goldson were all draft picks that were groomed under his watch. And he made signing J. Smith a top priority when he was a free agent.

No question about that. Our O-line royally sucked in the second half as well. Eli was hit 20 times and sacked six more. That's WAAY to much. Luckily for us, Eli didn't get picked of a couple of times like Drew Brees was last week, and that was a major factor because it seemed like the entire 49ers team was waiting for a defensive turnover so they could feed off of that momentum and put the game out of reach.

I recall being upset, If we lost we should lose both, if we won, we'll see in the playoffs because as we know, anything can happen. I am glad we won, not only because we won, but because our young players are developing very well and our team finally developed great chemistry. (edit: somehow I read that comment and thought it was talking about the regular season matchup... oh well)

The Giants muffed a punt leading to a field goal and Eli was picked in the endzone (kyle arrington) which lead to a long TD drive.

I really didn't want the Giants to win because they are built to beat teams like the Patriots. The only real good that might come out of this game (outside of a Super Bowl) is maybe Bill Belichick finally breaks down and realizes how important it is to over invest in the DL.

After re-watching it, I came away feeling the Giants should have won that game by significantly more. 10 points in dumb turnovers and at least 1 dropped INT in Patriots territory. Plus, the Giants had the field position advantage all game long. The Patriots never started in plus territory while the Giants started with very good field position almost every drive.

Vegas is nuts. The early line should be Giants-3.5 (maybe even Giants-7), not Giants+3.5.

After watching this I have less respect for Vernon Davis. He didn't see to give a flying you know what that he cost his team 30 yards. It's all about him. He hasn't changed at all. Selfish. And Harbaugh for all the demonstrative crap he does on the sideline, did absolutely jack **** about it. Either his bark is bigger than his bite, or he knows he's dealing with a moron but deals with it because the rest of his offense are scrubs. He has to talk to Vernon like he's a child.

Ok guys, so I need your help in deciding what to wear this sunday. No seriously. Because over the course of the playoffs, I have had a pretty strict code for what to wear and eat on gameday. Against the Falcons I wore a red sweather without thinking much of it. I also ate a Bacon cheeseburger from a take-out store.

That obviously worked out brilliantly, so half-jokingly I wore a green t-shirt against the Packers since the trend of wearing a shirt with the same color theme as our opponents' jerseys worked out the week before. I ate the exact same food.

And what do you know, it worked again! So against the 49ers I wore that same red sweather again, and ate the exact same burger for the third week in a row. And here we are.

Now, normally i'm not a superstitious guy. I've always scoffed at the idea. But this is starting to mess with my head now, because I don't want to mess with the unknown here. So what do you think?

Should I wear the red sweather, because we won two playoff games when i wore it? should I switch back to the green t-shirt, so as to gain a rotation symmetry? Or should i wear a blue sweather to continue the theme of wearing clothes that matches the opponents' jerseys?

It goes without saying that I order the burger again. And sorry for sounding ridicolus, But again, I'm not taking any chances with this game.

I know we suck and all, but I live in chicago, my best friend loves her bulls and we're planning on going to the two match ups here in march and april. I've been so worried about the knicks just making a game of it, that I haven't been able to freak about the superbowl yet because I'm still just glad to be here. The stars aligned for the giants and if that's not enough to beat Bellicheck again then at least we got a fantastic run out of a 9-7 team that could be much better next year.

Plus it doesn't hurt that Germany will win the European Cup so I'm guaranteed some hardware from one of my teams.

I wonder if we use Kiwi to jam and reroute Gronk at the line. With his size and long arms, he should be successful with that. And with his strength, his jam on the line should put some stress on that ankle.

Maybe jam him on the line with Kiwi and and have a safety pick him up in man coverage behind him?

The problem with having Kiwi out there is we can't go Jacquan in a big nickel package. And we still need a guy who can cover Hernandez.

We probably go single high safety with a safety on Hernandez, and the Kiwi jam+ safety on Gronk the whole game.

Giantsfan1080
02-02-2012, 01:05 PM
They'll def. use JPP to know the TE's off the line. It would help even more wiyth Gronk because it's going to take him a while to get going because of the injury.

bigbluedefense
02-02-2012, 01:07 PM
They used JPP to chip JMike in the playoffs. It worked very well, but also hurt our pass rush.

I think with the Pats being a 3 step drop quick throw team, we should sacrifice some pass rush to redirect these guys. Have JPP chip one guy, have Kiwi jam and redirect the other. Get on the line and press their WRs.

Safeties should creep up and play more robber zones and crowd the middle of the field to get rid of those crossing routes.

That's been the blueprint on beating them. The Jets used it last year in the playoffs, and the Ravens used it in the AFCCG with great success.

gpngc
02-02-2012, 01:11 PM
Problem is, Gronk and Hernandez start in a two-point stance a lot and not with their hand in the dirt. JPP can't jam them then...

The more I think about it, the more I suspect the Pats are going to try to establish the run early and often...

If they do that, they leave Light 1 on 1 with JPP with no chip. Good luck with that.

Or if they chip him with the RB, then that leaves Tuck 1 on 1 with Solder or Volmer with no chip. Again, good luck with that.

Giantsfan1080
02-02-2012, 01:46 PM
And in passing situations Osi is going to eat Light up like usual. Their RB's don't scare me so it's going to be up that O-Line to puss our D-Line off the ball. Linval is going to be a huge factor in this game if he could hold the LOS and occupy 2 blockers.

well, off of what we did last time (I know its not really the same with Gronk injured, emergence of Hernandez, and emergence of JWill) Antrell played 1 on 1 with Welker, KP was deep safety, Gronk was 1on1 with Grant a lot or Boley, and Hernandez got the other one (of grant or boley).

Yeah, my best friend is a huge bulls fan and doesn't follow any other sports. I've explained some football to her, but the european cup and soccer is really the only sport I think might actually click, so I've been following the basketball season far too closely.

I really think we'll try to get pressure out of the big nickel and attack Brady the way we did in the first game. Gronk is still a beast depending on how hurt he is, but I think that if we can take Hernandez and Welker out of the game and attack Brady we've got a great chance to win this game. If Gronk's tearing us up we'll have to start chipping him at the line with kiwi or one of the DEs, but I think you've gotta go into the game with the mindset that he's gotta force you to ease up on the rush and hit him at the line.

They showed some film on ESPN, and the package with Osi & Kiwi at the ends, JPP & Tuck on the inside, and the two tackles stunting, really gave Brady some trouble right away. I loved that front from you guys. It's exotic, and seemed like more of what I saw when Spags was there. From what the Patriots are doing transaction-wise I think that they are going to be more run-oriented and playing the clock and field position rather than just putting up points.

They added Lousaka Polite (FB) a week ago, who hasn't played a down all season after being cut by the Dolphins in September. Cut Underwood, who actually wasn't bad but it must be because they anticipate using Ochocinco and more 2 WR sets. They also put Alex Silvestro on the active roster as a DL/LB probably just for special team purposes.

eh i thought you outplayed us until the very end. your offensive line absolutely dominated our pass rush until the very end of that game, it was a joke. our coverage was very shakey (especially with all that time brady had) and your awful pass rushers looked passable somehow with how our line was playing. wilfork didnt have his best game though and it somehow stayed close giving us a shot. im really not sure how that happened, we were down by 2 but it felt like 2 touchdowns because of how badly our O was struggling to score.

while this is true, we made your pass rush look like ours and your o line absolutely handled ours. if you told me before the game brady would regularly have over 5 seconds to throw the ball and would be able to easily eat our coverage alive with the underneath game, i wouldve said we would most certainly lose.

If the Patriots win the SB then whoever accepts will have to use a sig of my choosing until post-draft.

If the Giants win the SB then I will use any sig made for me until post-draft.

Let's have some online forum fun lol.

Hey guys, so does anyone have a sig or want to make a sig for our friend here to wear?

Way to go Giants!!!! Gave a great Super Bowl to all of us that didn't get to watch our team. And you some how kept the championship in the NFC East!!! Everyone I know that is a Cowboys fan was rooting against you. But not me. I would rather you guys keep the championship in the NFC East. I am proud of you guys.

Quick notes.

I am tired of a debate about Eli being an elite QB. He has won two SB's. It can't be argued anymore.

After watching the Giants, seems to me that when in doubt draft a pass rusher.

I can't believe Welker dropped that pass. I guess it was meant to be. This loss for the patriots does not tarnish Tom Brady's legacy. He just lost a game to a team that brought it. I thought he played well. He just happened to be playing a team that was complete.

Again-way to go! I am very jealous. Not a Giants fan by any means. But gosh darn it, you found a way to get it done!

Eli has finally removed the "other than Tom Brady" from the phrase I'd rather have Eli going into a big game than QB in the league, other than Tom Brady.

PS I think I'm superstitious now. I was working out in the first quarter, stopped working out in the second and started working out again at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Just woke up after last night! We are Super bowl champions!! What a great game last night. Eli did it again, that throw to Manningham is one of his best throws ever!

The good thing for us fans is that I think this team will be better next year. We can get healthier in the secondary, and our Rookies gets one more year under their belts. Just imagine Victor Cruz starting for the full season! Man, I'm going to enjoy this offseason! So happy to be here and kind of share this moment with you guys!

YES!

Skipped school today in honor of the amazing victory!

It's been a pleasure riding this up and down roller coaster known as the New York Giants with you guys.

What a fantastic ending to the season; it's still so surreal.
