Is Drake Nevis a 1st round pick?

His tape and his explosion are both very impressive, but his size at what I will guess comes in at 6'1" 295lbs. at the combine is a concern.

To me he looks a lot like Brandon Mebane and if he plays like Mebane he would be worth a late 1st round pick.

The problem is that he is a rotational 4-3 DT at best in the NFL, and you typically don't want to spend a first round pick on a rotational DT.

I doubt it. Other than maybe Seattle at 25 I don't know who would take him that early.

Indy? Seems like a classic Colts DT.

Doubt it. There are more pressing needs and Polian doesn't really value DTs enough to take a guy like Nevis in the mid-1st round.

I think he is underrated. The Mebane comparison is very astute, but I think he might even be quicker and stronger then Mebane.

As far as draft stock goes though, I think he has about a 30 percent chance of landing in Round 1.

Cover 2 teams like the Bears at 29 might look at him?

love him from 25-32 hes probably in discussion for 3-5 best DT in the draft. IMO hes better than Liuget and a step behind paea. very explosive 3 tech and 3rd down pass rusher. he doesnt seem to be getting much praise from mayock which raises a red flag though.

If I had to guess, I'd say no. The demand for 4-3 DT in the first round just isn't very high.

Talented prospect, but I still think his stock is in the 2nd right now

The 4-3 isn't popular enough and most of the good 4-3 teams have more pressing needs, so probably not a first-rounder, but on a team like Indianapolis I could see him developing into a very valuable player. Maybe a team like Tennessee would take a chance on him in the second round assuming they don't sign or trade Albert Haynesworth for that three-technique role. It's possible that Mike Munchak won't want to take on a risky personality like Haynesworth in his first year of coaching - he's already going to have his hands full.

I dont see Seattle taking a DT that early, in order they would probably grab:

Jake Locker
Jimmy Smith
Ryan Kerrigan
Gabe Carimi
Jon Balwdwin

I would love it if Nevis fell to the Colts in 2nd round but that would be wishful thinking for most Indy fans.

I know that CJ is drooling over the Saints drafting him in the 1st.

As a Bears-fan this is a guy I'd love with the 29th pick. I could see him start day one, and with him and Peppers on the same line I can see hell coming for Aaron Rodgers (me like)
