Mock v1.7

ROUND 1

1. Oakland Raiders – QB Jamarcus Russell – LSU
I keep going back and forth on this pick as both Calvin Johnson and Russell would make great picks for the Raiders. After Russell’s impressive pro day, he has probably moved himself a little bit ahead of Johnson on the Raiders’ list. However, if Johnson comes through with an equally impressive pro day tomorrow, he could steal Russell’s momentum.

2. Detroit Lions – QB Brady Quinn – Notre Dame
The Lions are trying to trade down but we all know how hard it is to trade down from this high of a pick. Quinn seems to have a lot of momentum going into the draft and he is a guy who could be the face of the franchise whereas Joe Thomas seems like he will be a solid OT but maybe not much more.

3. Cleveland Browns – HB Adrian Peterson – Oklahoma
With both QBs off the board, this pick becomes a lot easier for the Browns, who need major help in their backfield. Peterson is a rare prospect who should be an elite running back at the NFL level and rejuvenate a stagnant Cleveland offense.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – WR Calvin Johnson – Georgia Tech
Calvin is the best prospect in this draft, yet it looks like he could fall to 4th based on the needs of the top 3 teams. The Bucs wouldn’t even imagine passing on him.

5. Arizona Cardinals – OT Joe Thomas – Wisconsin
The Cardinals have to be just hoping Thomas falls to them. He is a blue chip LT prospect and fills what is by far the Cards biggest need.

6. Washington Redskins – DE Gaines Adams – Clemson
The Redskins’ pass-rush was the worst in the league last year and a pure pass-rusher like Adams is exactly what they need.

7. Minnesota Vikings – DE Jamaal Anderson – Arkansas
Bottom line the Vikings need to improve their pass-rush and Anderson is the best DE available. While Anderson is not an ideal fit because he is not a pure pass-rusher like Adams, he is the best option available to the Vikings.

8. Atlanta Falcons (f/ HOU) – S Laron Landry – LSU
Its known the Falcons are looking to add a playmaker at safety, and Landry is likely the guy they moved up to get.

9. Miami Dolphins – CB Leon Hall – Michigan
This seems a little high for Hall, but after all he has been the top CB prospect all along and he ran a sub 4.4 at the combine so he could go top 10. CB is always looked at as a premium position and the Dolphins need one and I’m hearing more and more buzz that Hall will go in this area of the draft.

10. Houston Texans (f/ ATL) – DT Amobi Okoye – Louisville
The Texans have a need at DT and Okoye is one of the top players available.

11. San Francisco 49ers – LB Patrick Willis – Ole Miss
Willis was the best LB prospect when he was expected to run a 4.6. He just ran a 4.37 at his pro day and would be extremely hard to pass up here for a 49er team that needs help at ILB.

12. Buffalo Bills – HB Marshawn Lynch – California
The Bills lost McGahee and will need to bring in a new feature back, as they have no talent on their roster to speak of right now at the position.

13. St. Louis Rams – DT Alan Branch – Michigan
Branch’s stop appears to be slipping, mainly due to questions about his work ethic. However, the Rams won’t be able to pass on talent like that at a position of need.

14. Carolina Panthers – TE Greg Olsen - Miami
Olsen has been one of the most impressive prospects in post-season workouts and with the Panthers making major changes to their offensive system and needing a pass-catching TE, Olsen is hard to pass on.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers – DE Adam Carriker – Nebraska
The Steelers get themselves a talented DE who fits into both the 3-4 and the 4-3. Carriker would be very hard to pass up here and gives them the versatility they need as they make changes to their defensive scheme.

16. Green Bay Packers – WR Dwayne Bowe – LSU
If the Packers don’t pull off a trade for Randy Moss, WR is major need for them and with Lynch off the board, they’ll likely look to take advantage of a strong WR class.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars – FS Reggie Nelson – Florida
The Jaguars let Deon Grant walk in FA and need to bring in a playmaking FS and Nelson certainly fits the bill.

18. Cincinnati Bengals – CB Darrelle Revis – Pittsburgh
The Bengals are in need of another starter at CB and Revis has the talent and skills to come in and start.

19. Tennessee Titans – WR Ted Ginn – Ohio St.
The Titans have been trying all off-season to bring in a speedy WR but they have failed to bring one in. Ginn can stretch the field as well as anyone and he figures to be a premier big play threat for an offense that lacks one.

20. New York Giants – OLB Paul Poluzny – Penn St.
Everything I’m hearing is that the Giants will be looking for an OLB in the first round and while this may seem a little early for Poluzny, he is exactly the type of player Coughlin likes and if you look at his combine numbers and his junior season, he is worth the pick.

21. Denver Broncos – DE Jarvis Moss – Florida
The Broncos need to add a pass-rusher above all else and Moss is the top edge rusher available. While the Broncos host a rotation of capable ends, none can wreak havoc like Moss.

22. Dallas Cowboys – WR Robert Meachem – Tennessee
Owens and Glenn are both aging and there’s good reason to believe Owens will only play one more year in Dallas. The Cowboys don’t have any major needs outside of safety, but unless they want to make a move for Merriweather or Griffin, they might end up picking a good young WR who can help them in the future.

23. Kansas City Chiefs – OT Levi Brown – Penn St.
The Chiefs need to rebuild their line and it starts at LT, where the team is hurting after losing Willie Roaf to retirement.

24. New England Patriots – S Michael Griffin – Texas
Griffin is a good fit for the Patriots who need help at safety and it will help that Griffin has the versatility to play both safety positions. He would be the successor to Rodney Harrison, who won’t be playing too much longer.

25. New York Jets – CB Aaron Ross – Texas
One thing the Jets are looking for is a top flight corner as they currently have an abundance of mediocre players at the position. They also need to add a pass-rusher but there are a number of potential hybrid backers who can be had in the 2nd round so it’s best for them to move for a CB now.

26. Philadelphia Eagles – OLB Lawrence Timmons – Florida St.
The Eagles need help at LB and Timmons gives the Eagles a playmaker at LB, something they’ve been lacking for some time.

27. New Orleans Saints – CB Chris Houston – Arkansas
Houston is probably the best man-to-man corner in this league which makes him a great fit for the Saints who often leave their CBs in single coverage and badly need to replace Fred Thomas.

28. New England Patriots – HB Brian Leonard – Rutgers
The Patriots are suddenly thin at HB after giving Dillon his walking papers. Leonard would bring a power running game and is the kind of versatile player the Patriots like. This is obviously a little bit of a reach but the Patriots don’t pick again until the third round and they have never been afraid to reach for a player they wanted.

29. Baltimore Ravens – OT Tony Ugoh – Arkansas
Tony Pashos walked in FA and Ogden is unlikely to play more than one more season. Adam Terry will likely assume a starting role, but OT is still a pressing need for the Ravens.

30. San Diego Chargers – FS Brandon Merriweather – Miami
The Chargers need a playmaking safety and that is exactly what Merriweather is. While he has character concerns, Merriweather is arguably the most dynamic playmaker on defense in this draft.

31. Chicago Bears – WR Dwayne Jarrett – USC
Muhsin Muhammad doesn’t have much left in the tank and the Bears’ receivers as a group are solid but unspectacular. They could use a go-to player like Muhammad.

32. Indianapolis Colts – DT Justin Harrell – Tennessee
Even though they tightened it up in the playoffs, the Colts’ run D was a major problem and they will be looking to add a player to the interior of their line to help the cause. Word is they are high on Harrell, whose stock is very high right now.

ROUND 2

33. Oakland Raiders – OT Joe Staley – Central Michigan
The Raiders didn’t sign any OTs in this draft and need help there. They are switching to the ZBS and moving Gallery to RT, meaning they need to add an athletic LT prospect, which is exactly what Staley is.

34. Detroit Lions – DE Anthony Spencer – Purdue
The Lions are looking to improve their pass-rush and Spencer is an excellent edge-rusher who should fit into the cover 2 quite nicely.

35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – C Ryan Kalil – USC
The Bucs continue their O-line overhaul by picking up this stud center.

36. Cleveland Browns – OL Aaron Sears – Tennessee
The Browns have been working hard to upgrade their OL in FA, but it still needs some work and Sears could give some immediate help at both OG and RT.

37. Chicago Bears (f/ WAS thru NYJ) – OLB Jon Beason – Miami
Briggs says he has played his last snap for the Bears and depth at LB will be needed and possibly a replacement for Briggs. Beason is a perfect fit for the cover 2 and would be a great pickup for the Bears.

38. Arizona Cardinals – DE Charles Johnson – Georgia
The Cardinals need to add a pass-rusher and Crowder is a player who has been exceptional in workouts and I believe he will go higher than most expect.

39. Atlanta Falcons (f/ HOU) – OG Ben Grubbs – Auburn
The Falcons need to add a LG and they will probably use one of their first day picks on a lineman after acquiring extra picks from the Texans.

40. Miami Dolphins – QB Drew Stanton – Michigan St.
Culpepper is a question mark and unless they pull off a trade for Trent Green or David Carr, the depth isn’t there. The Dolphins could easily be looking to the draft for help at QB.

41. Minnesota Vikings – WR Anthony Gonzalez – Ohio St.
WR is the Vikings biggest need and Gonzalez is the kind of high character guy Childress likes and he would be a great fit in their offense.

42. San Francisco 49ers – WR Sidney Rice – South Carolina
This is a solid value here for the 49ers if Rice lasts this long and he would give them a very nice option in the passing game and while he doesn’t have blazing speed he has the ball skills to make plays downfield.

43. Buffalo Bills – MLB David Harris – Michigan
The Bills need a MLB and they are looking for one who is tough against the run but also has the range to play in the cover 2. They could move Crowell to MLB, but either way they need help at LB.

44. Atlanta Falcons – DE Tim Crowder – Texas
The Falcons lost Kerney and Abraham can’t seem to stay healthy so help is needed at DE.

45. Carolina Panthers – FS Eric Weddle – Utah
The Panthers need help at S with Shaun Williams on his way out and Mike Minter aging.

46. Pittsburgh Steelers – OG Kevin Blalock – Texas
The Steelers offensive line needs a bit of an overhaul and Blalock is the kind of powerful run blocker the Steelers like.

47. Green Bay Packers – HB Antonio Pittman – Ohio St.
The Packers find themselves with a major hole to fill at HB after losing Green and missing out on Lynch in the first. Pittman is a balanced runner who should thrive in the ZBS.

48. Jacksonville Jaguars – DE Victor Abiamiri – Notre Dame
The Jaguars could really benefit by adding another pass-rusher and Abiamiri would be a very solid pick here.

49. Cincinnati Bengals – OLB Justin Durant – Hampton
This may seem a little high for Durant but after Willis, Timmons, Posluszny and Beason, any LB could be the next to go. Durant is a great fit at WLB for the Bengals and he has the speed Marvin Lewis likes. The Bengals also have no 3rd round pick so now is the time to address LB. If Durant is their guy, now is the time to take him.

50. Tennessee Titans – DE Lamarr Woodley – Michigan
Woodley is undersized but has proven he can get it done and he can be an extremely disruptive player for a team that lacks any player who has proven to be a force rushing the passer.

51. New York Giants – CB Eric Wright – UNLV
The Giants have a big need at CB where they lack depth and their starters are both coming off disappointing seasons.

52. St. Louis Rams – CB Marcus McCauley – Fresno St.
The Rams have a need to fill at CB where they are thin and need a long-term upgrade over Fakhir Brown. McCauley has all the measurables you look for and his potential is through the roof.

53. Dallas Cowboys – CB Tarell Brown – Texas
The Cowboys need to add a DB of some kind on day one of this draft. There’s a lot of uncertainty about how their lineup will be, as Pat Watkins may or may not be starting and Anthony Henry might move to FS, but its clear that improving the secondary is a top priority for the Cowboys.

54. Kansas City Chiefs – WR Craig Davis – LSU
The Chiefs need to bring in help at WR and Davis is potential steal who could become a no. 1 WR in this league.

55. Seattle Seahawks – DT Quinn Pittock – Ohio St.
The Seahawks had some problems at DT last year and could use a run-stopper in the middle.

56. Denver Broncos – S John Wendling – Wyoming
The Broncos need to bring in help to their secondary and Wendling has all the physical tools you look for and with some coaching he could become a real playmaker.

57. Philadelphia Eagles – DE Ray McDonald – Florida.
The Eagles are looking to bolster depth at DE and McDonald is a solid all-around performer who can play the run and rush the passer.

58. New Orleans Saints – OLB Stewart Bradley – Nebraska
The Saints signed Brian Simmons and resigned Shanle but still have a need a SLB.

59. New York Jets – DT DeMarcus Tyler – NC State
The Jets need a NT and Tyler is the best NT prospect in this draft and he would be a great fit for the Jets.

60. Miami Dolphins (f/ NE) – WR Aundrae Allison – East Carolina
The Dolphins lost their RS and slot receiver Welker to the Patriots and need to replace him. Allison would be a good fit and has a higher ceiling than Welker.

61. Baltimore Ravens – CB Josh Wilson – Maryland
The Ravens need to add some young talent at CB and Wilson is exactly the kind of tough, athletic player the Ravens like.

62. San Diego Chargers – WR Jason Hill – Washington St.
The Chargers need help at the WR position and Hill could be an immediate starter and contributor for this super bowl contender.

63. New York Jets (f/ CHI) – OLB Quentin Moses – Georgia
The Jets need to add a rush-backer and Moses seems like he’s destined for that role.

64. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (f/ IND) – DE Brian Robinson – Texas
The Buccaneers need to add a pass-rushing end and Robinson is a player who worked out well and could go higher expected.

ROUND 3

65. Oakland Raiders – TE Ben Patrick – Delaware
The Raiders failed to address the TE position in FA and with all the top pass-rushers off the board, they could opt to address a somewhat lesser need.

66. Detroit Lions – CB Daymeion Hughes – California
The Lions need to overhaul their CB position as they switch to the cover 2 and after running a 4.65 in the 40, it seems like Hughes will have to play in the cover 2.

68. Cleveland Browns – CB Fred Bennett – South Carolina
Depth is a major issue for the Browns at CB as Gary Baxter can’t shake the injury bug and they lack good backups.

68. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – DT Brandon Mebane – California
The Bucs front 4 is not what it once was and they badly need to improve its talent level. Mebane is an excellent fit for the cover 2 and could be an immediate starter.

69. Arizona Cardinals – OLB Rufus Alexander – Oklahoma
The Cardinals need to bring in an OLB to start next to Dansby and Hayes and Alexander would be a good fit at WLB.

70. Denver Broncos (f/ WAS) – OT James Marten – Boston College
After trading the disappointing George Foster, the Broncos will need a new starter at RT and Marten could be a good be a good fit.

71. Miami Dolphins – DE Ryan McBean – Oklahoma St.
The Dolphins’ DL is thin and if Cameron intends to install the same kind of 3-4 defense the Chargers run, McBean would be a great fit.

72. Minnesota Vikings – MLB Buster Davis – Florida St.
The Vikings don’t have any true MLB on their roster and Davis, with his range and speed to the ball, would be a great fit in the cover 2.

73. Houston Texans – CB Jonathan Wade – Tennessee
The Texans need help at DB and must address it day 1 and Wade is probably the best DB available.

74. Buffalo Bills – WR Steve Smith – USC
Steve Smith could be an immediate starter for the Bills and a nice complement to Evans. He showed the speed in workouts to play in the Bills’ offense.

75. Atlanta Falcons – HB Michael Bush – Louisville
Bush is Petrino’s guy from college and with the Falcons in need of a power back we can expect the Falcons to target him.

76. San Francisco 49ers – DE Ikaika Alama-Francis – Hawaii
The 49ers need to improve their defensive frontline and Francis is a good fit for the 3-4.

77. Pittsburgh Steelers – HB Tony Hunt – Penn St.
The Steelers re-signed Davenport but he was unimpressive last season and the Steelers will be looking to add a better power back.

78. Green Bay Packers – SS Aaron Rouse – Virginia Tech
The Packers need an upgrade at SS, where Marquand Manuel didn’t show that he was anything more than an adequate backup last year.

79. Jacksonville Jaguars – OLB Tim Shaw – Penn St.
Shaw is a gifted athlete who upside will tempt someone like the Jaguars with no major needs to take a flyer on him sometime in the 3rd round.

Cincinnati Bengals – Forfeited Pick

80. Tennessee Titans – HB Lorenzo Booker – Florida St.
The Titans don’t have anyone behind Lendale White at HB and Booker would be an excellent complement to him.

81. New York Giants – WR Courtney Taylor – Auburn
Amani Toomer won’t be playing much longer and it seems like Sinorice Moss is destined to be a slot receiver. Taylor could be a good no. 2 option for this team at WR.

82. St. Louis Rams – WR Johnnie Lee Higgins – UTEP
The Rams are in the market for a WR after losing Curtis and McDonald. A speedy, playmaking receiver like Higgins would be useful because he brings new skills to the table.

83. Carolina Panthers – QB Trent Edwards – Stanford
The Panthers’ QB situation is ugly with Delhomme coming off an awful season and there not being a good backup in place. They need to spend a day 1 pick on a QB.

85. Kansas City Chiefs – HB Kenny Irons – Auburn
If the Chiefs continue at their current pace, they will run Larry Johnson into the ground in a very short time. They need to bring in some relief with a mid round back.

86. Seattle Seahawks – OG Josh Beekman – Boston College
The Seahawks are thin at OG and there are questions about if either Rob Sims are Floyd Womack are starting quality.

87. Denver Broncos – HB Brandon Jackson - Nebraska
The Broncos signed Henry but still need additional depth at HB and Jackson is a runner who would fit very will into their scheme.

88. Dallas Cowboys – K Justin Medlock – UCLA
After losing games last season on account of problems in their kicking game, the Cowboys need to address the position.

89. New Orleans Saints – TE Zach Miller – Arizona St.
The Saints signed Eric Johnson to a 1 year contract but they could really use a good young TE to add to their offense.

90. New York Jets – OG Marshall Yanda – Iowa
The Jets need to add an OG and Yanda would be a nice addition to the interior of their line.

91. Philadelphia Eagles – CB David Irons – Auburn
The Eagles are very thin at CB after losing Rod Hood and need to replenish themselves at the position.

92. New England Patriots – LB Zack DeOssie – Brown
DeOssie is a smart, versatile player who would fit well into the 3-4 and give the Patriots needed depth at LB.

93. Buffalo Bills (f/ BAL) – CB Tanard Jackson – Syracuse
Jackson is a great fit for the cover 2 and after losing Clements the Bills need to bring in some talent at CB.

94. San Diego Chargers – ILB Anthony Waters – Clemson
With Donnie Edwards gone and Godfrey soon to retire, help is needed at ILB.

95. Chicago Bears – OG Manuel Ramirez – Texas Tech
The Bears could use some youth and depth at RG and RT and Ramirez is a great run-blocker, making him a good fit for the Bears’ offense.

96. Indianapolis Colts – HB Darius Walker – Notre Dame
The Colts need to bring in a back to share the load with Addai, who is not a workhorse back. Walker is a good receiver and blocker, which is key to playing in the Colt offense, making him a good fit.

You dont think youre a little thin at WR? Sure, Holt Bennett and Bruce is a nice trio but Bruce is almost done and Bennett is 29 and Holt over 30 and depth isnt good after that and they dont have any of the fast WRs they usually like. I could be wrong.

Seriously..these guys are getting up in age and Curtis and McDonald are on their way out. These guys aren't exactly the youngest in the NFL. Bruce will be on his way out in another season or 3. Its time for some youth on this team at WR.

Thats the way Im lookin at it. They may not adress it day 1, but I feel like they will go WR at some point in this draft.

First round pick for KC is outstanding and I pray it happens. 2nd round is also a great pick. 3rd round is bad though. We have LJ and Micheal Bennett, plus Priest might come back as a backup.
KC would take a DT there. Jay Alford would be perfect!

Bennett blows, I kind of doubt Holmes makes a comeback. Unless he does, they need to spend a mid rounder on a HB, maybe not a 3rd rounder and maybe not Irons, but they need to spend a pick on one or they are gonna end up running LJ right into the ground.

Good first round pick for the Eagles considering the situation, we do need help with our LBs. In the second we may go with a few other DEs over McDonald or we may go CB or TE with Ben Patrick, or we may address SS here. In the third, we may address SS with Sabby Piscatelli or LB again with Anthony Waters.
