These two players seem very similar after reading several scouting reports on them. Both can collapse the pocket, both can create pressure in the backfield, both are stout against the run and both have drawn comparisons to Sedrick Ellis.

So, what separates them? What makes one better than the other?

WTF, MC Hammer?

I thought those are some good questions and I will check back to see what our resident-experts have to say about these 2 guys. We might need a replacement for Cullen Jenkins.

I haven't seen much of Liuget unfortunately, perhaps a couple of games at best, while I've seen more of but not a ton of Paea. Liuget seems more like a 3 tech prospect while Paea's more your classic run-stuffing nose. Really looking forward to Paea's bench numbers.

This sums it up pretty well. Liuget is more of an under tackle and Paea more of a nose tackle. I like Paea as the better prospect by a fairly substantial margin, I think he's going to be very good. The unfortunate injury he recently suffered is minor, but is really affecting his draft stock.

I like both a lot. But Liuget is my favorite prospect in this entire draft (personal preference). I think of all the DTs, he has the best ability to shoot the gap and get after the QB. I think both Liuget and Paea are 3-technique DTs. Paea has a really quick first step, and may be overall quicker than Liuget. May not be the pass rusher Liuget is, but will be a better run stopper that can also get to the QB.

Paea is also a powerhouse. A little shorter and stockier than Liuget. I keep seeing Liuget as a possible 3-4, 5-technique DE, but I don't see it. I think he's the definition of a 3-technique in the NFL. As a Bears fan, he reminds me of Tommie Harris coming out. Harris was probably a little more explosive though. Paea is more Sedrick Ellis than Liguet. Similar size and I think it will take him a couple years to really come into his own as a pass rusher.

Paea has the never-ending motor to get after the ball. Liuget has had previous conditioning issues and wore down a couple times in the 4th quarter this past year.

I think i still have some of those Hammer pants in the closet, might go put them on for the occasion. That slamming door sound will be my wife going to the mall to get away from me.

I like Paea better, has superior explosive ability and burst off the ball. Overall better upside. Unfortunately he has short arms and raw technique which may cause him to struggle in the NFL shedding blocks. Liuget is more polished as he's really good with his hand swipes and placement. Depends what you value more honestly

This is the top 6 list of the top finishers in the bench press in the last decade.
1.)Paea
2.)Jeff Owens
3.)Broderick Bunkley
4.)Scott Young
5.)Tank Tyler
6.)Isaac Sopoaga
Thats some pretty elite company right there.

You're right it would be much better if he did poorly on the bench press.

There really isn't that much to separate them, IMO.

Both are best suited to the 3-tech. Both could play as a 1-gap NT for teams like SF and Dallas. I think Paea is a little quicker off the snap and has better COD. I think Liuget is better with using his hands and gaining leverage. I see both of them as good value in the first round.

Hmmm, I find their type of play to be very different. Paea uses his strength as his primary weapon, moving interior linemen into the backfield to collapse the pocket. Liuget uses his athleticism and quick step to get into the backfield and impact the run game. Liuget better at TFL, Paea more stout in the middle. I think Liuget's pure athletic ability puts him above Paea for me. Paea will struggle early in the NFL until he can adjust to O-lineman with proper technique and leverage. I believe Liuget will make the easier transition.
