#1 Oakland Raiders- WR Calvin Johnson
The first pick of the draft sums up how this whole draft will be. Like me I am sure Oakland is going back and forth on this pick. Right now JaMarcus Russell has the momentum. But I think come mid-April Johnson will be the guy. I think they will trade Randy Moss and their QB will be either Aaron Rogers or David Carr, maybe both. If that happens then CJ is a lock to be their pick.
#2 Detroit Lions- QB JaMarcus Russell
Detroit right is looking into possibly trading down and getting more picks, but if Oak passes on Russell than they stay right where they are and get Russell. Russell will come in and already have a top 3 QB arm, as far as strength. Lions would have a savior, and Roy Williams will have a QB who can give him the ball a lot. Matt Millen will be okay after this offseason.
#3 Cleveland Browns- QB Brady Quinn
Brady Quinn and Cleveland are both happy with this pick. Cleveland really wants Quinn and is glad they don't have to move up for him, and Quinn is estatic because he gets to play for his team. Charlie Frye is a solid QB, but he doesn't bring to the table what Quinn does. This pick makes sense, and with Crennel being good friends with Wies the Browns will know what to expect out of Quinn. Don't buy into the hype that Quinn will be a bust. He will be a very good NFL QB, and will be the face of the Cleveland Browns Franchise.
#4 Tampa Bay Bucs- DT Amobi Okoye
This is the first shocker of the draft. Some may view it as a reach, but the Bucs are better off staying put and taking Okoye. Okoye in some eyes has become the #1 DT in the draft. He has unlimited potential, and some have compared him to Warren Sapp(who played for guess who). Oh yeah, he's 19. The Bucs have a need for him, and Gruden fell in love with him at the Senoir Bowl. If Calvin Johnson isn't here, the Bucs will pass on Joe Thomas and take Amobi Okoye
#5 Arizona Cardinals- OT Joe Thomas
If Joe Thomas falls to the fifth spot in the draft, the Cardinals FO will simply be overwhelmed with happiness. And after the Bucs make their pick don't be surprised if within a minute Commisioner Goodell is back at podium to annouce the Cardinals selection of Joe Thomas. He is a need, and this really doesn't need much explanation.
#6 Washington Redskins- DT Alan Branch
The Redskins make the selection of Branch over Adams because they feel that Branch will make more of an impact. He gives them not only a great run-stopper, but a good pass rush as well. He sures up the defensive line for now, and helps return the Redskins back to their '05 form when they were a top 5 defense.
#7 Minnesota Vikings- DE Gaines Adams
Vikings get their guy here. Adams gives the Vikings the pass rush they lacked last year. Since they feel no WR is worthy of the 7th pick, they go with #2 on the list. He is a need since they lost their starting corner, Fred Smoot. The Vikings feel a need and don't have to move to get him.
#8 Atlanta Falcons (from Hou)- S Laron Landry
Falcons move up to the 8th spot from the Schaub trade. Landry was #1 on the board at pick #10, but the Dolphins were probably going to take him. So the Falcons move in front of the Dolphins and get their guy at #8. He feels a real need, and makes their secondary look good. The Falcons, though, spend most of their 15 minutes deciding between Adrian Peterson and Laron Landry, but at the end they decide that Laron Landry is more of a need and go with him.
#9 Miami Dolphins- CB Leon Hall
This is the hardest pick in the draft to determine. Its not that the Dolphins don't have any needs, its that their needs aren't glaring. And with the 9th pick, most of the elite prospects are gone. They don't like Levi Brown from reports. Landry would be their guy, but since Atl took him before them they settle with Hall. Hall has reassured himself as the best CB in this draft by running a 4.3. Since the Dolphins CB's are either old or not that great, Hall is a good pick.
#10 Houston Texans (from Atl)- OT Levi Brown
The Texans have been needing a OT for about 3 years. They finally draft one with the 10th pick in the draft. Although he's not the #1 tackle, Brown is a very good one. The Texans need to protect their new QB Matt Schaub, and Brown is the best way to go. Too bad they didn't do this with Carr.
#11 San Francisco 49ers- WR Dwayne Jarrett
The 49ers give Alex Smith a new toy. Jarrett is a good pick because the 49ers released their best WR from last season, and newly acquired Lelie isn't going to make heads turn. If Jarrett runs a 4.5 at his Pro Day, Jarrett will cement his status as a top 3 WR in this draft. Jarrett is great for Smith because he has the best hands in the draft and can make difficult catches. Smith to Jarrett will become a good tandem.
#12 Buffalo Bills- RB Adrian Peterson
This is the only pick in my mock that I am unsure about. My mind says there is no way AP slips this far, but if you look at the first eleven picks everybody has a good, if not great RB on their roster or just simply have a greater need. The Browns who may want him just got Jamal Lewis and they would rather have Quinn then Peterson. The Vikings could use him, but don't need him, and the Falcons would like to have him but they have Dunn and Norwood. I think someone will trade into the top 10 to get AP, but if the draft stays as is the Bills will come out very lucky because they get BPA and fill a big need by selecting a top 5, great franchise back, at pick #12.
#13 St. Louis Rams- DE Adam Carriker
Apparently the Rams really like this guy. Adam brings a lot to the table, he is a great player, versatile, and has a great motor. He helps their defense, and will be a good run stopper and and pass rusher.
#14 Carolina Panthers- S Reggie Nelson
The Panthers luck out, and get a fantasic prospect Reggie Nelson. Nelson will come in and be a starter. He is a phenomanal player, who many think is the #1 safety prospect. He somehow falls to 14, but the Panthers are glad he does. Perfect fit.
#15 Pittsburgh Steelers- LB Patrick Willis
Patrick Willis is the best LB in this draft. The Steelers are happy that he is theirs. And he may just be a steal, especially after his pro day performance. After they just released Porter, the Steelers sure up the MLB spot with Willis. He reminds many of Jonathan Vilma, and with the way he plays don't be surprised if he gets DROY honors. This pick would be a great startoff for the Tomlin Era in Pittsburgh, and Tomlin's defense will be centered around Willis.
#16 Green Bay Packers- RB Marshawn Lynch
Marshawn Lynch would be a great replacement for Ahman Green. Lynch brings a lot to the table, he's a complete back. Many have compared him to Curtis Martin, some have compared him to LaDainian Tomlison. He will come in and is likely to get the starting job. With him, Jennings, Driver, and Farve the offense's future looks bright. He's a good fit for the Packers.
#17 Jacksonville Jaguars- S Michael Griffin
Reach a little bit here for Griffin, but he is the best player available for them that feels a need. Griffin is a very good safety from Texas, he is a good player all around. He will come in and fill in the void left by Deon Grant. Good pick by Jacksonville here.
#18 Cincinnati Bengals- DE Jammal Anderson
Bengals select this guy because he's BPA. Anderson stock is slipping a bit, and the Bengals are happy he slipped to them. He's not a need, but since he is a great prospect he will get to play. And since Smith is getting old, Anderson may not be a bad pick.
#19 Tennessee Titans- WR Ted Ginn Jr.
Tennessee is mad that Anderson is selected right before them, and may actually move up to the Jags to get Anderson. But right they pick up dynamic playmaker Ted Ginn Jr. Tennessee has been trying to get a speedy WR all offseason, and will be happy with Ginn. He will also return kicks since Pacman Jones is likely to recieve a 4 game suspension. VY is estatic with this pick as he now has a go-to guy who can make the unbelivalbe play. VY and Ginn would make maybe the most playmaking-ability duo in the NFL.
#20 New York Giants- CB Chris Houston
The Giants get to choose the best out of a great pool of 1st round of CB's after Hall. They choose Houston, who can play in any system of defense. Some view him as the best CB in the draft, and the Giants fill in a need with a great CB in Houston who has shutdown some of the top WR's in this year's draft.
#21 Denver Broncos- DE Jarvis Moss
Right now, my bet is the Broncos trade out of the 1st round, right now they just don't have too many weaknesses. But if they do stay look for them to possibly get a DE, especially since they just released Courtney Brown. On the board Moss is the best DE avialable, and he has loads of potential. Many have compared him to Jevon Kearse. In Denver he will finally bring that pass rush they have been looking. Another great pick by Shannahan.
#22 Dallas Cowboys- CB Aaron Ross
The Cowboys have fixed many of their needs through FA. This means the Cowboys could have a great draft because a lot of their picks will be off of BPA. Right here they tie in BPA and need with CB Ross. Ross is a hometown product, and many of the Dallas fans will be happy with him. Ross is one of the best DB's in the draft, and can play in many types of system. He also helps sure of that Dallas defensive backfield, to make that defense complete. If the Cowboys can sign Hamlin, look out. With Ross they will become one of the best backfields in the NFL, and one of the best defenses. Newman+Ross+Hamlin+Williams= Scary Defensive Backfield!
#23 Kansas City Chiefs- WR Robert Meachem
Many consider Meachem as the 2nd best WR in this draft. The Chiefs get a steal by selecting the talented Vol WR. He's a big time playmaker, who has all the tools to become a very good WR in the NFL. He's big, fast, and very athletic. He also put up monster stats in the SEC last season. The Chiefs finally get a big time WR for their offense that they have lacked for years.
#24 New England Patriots (from Sea)- CB Darrelle Revis
The Patriots always manage to come up with a steal in a draft. Drafting Revis would be just that. Revis is a great CB, who many consider the best in the draft, and after his 4.38 40 its hard to see why. Revis slides a little, but he could actually come in and start for the New England Patriots. He also serves as a assurance just in case Asante Samuel holds out. The Patriots have built there dynasty by drafting defense in the 1st day. Its no different here, and with Revis it will assure them to have a great CB for years to come.
#25 New York Jets- DE Anthony Spencer
The Jets are like the Patriots, they don't have the sexiest picks, but their players are always good (based off of last year). Here is a little shocker, but Spencer is a very good defensive player with a great motor and great abilities. He's built for a 3-4 defense, and Mangini could make him great. Maybe a small reach, but the Jets get what they want.
#26 Philadelphia Eagles- LB Lawerence Timmons
The Eagles have a need at LB, and Timmons helps feel that need. Outside of Trotter the Eagles don't have much else. Many Eagles fans are disappointed with Dhani Jones play, so some help is needed. Timmons adds size and athleticism to their LB corps. And will probably start from day one. A good pick for the Eagles, who fill a need.
#27 New Orleans Saints- LB Paul Poslunzy
Even though the Saints just signed Brian Simmons, their LB's still need some help. Besides Simmons is up there in age, and the Saints should add youth to their defense. They would like to get one of the top CB's, but since they are gone they settle with Poslunzy, who many consider a safe choice in the draft. Poslunzy could come in and start for the Saints, and help their defense.
#28 New England Patriots- S Eric Weddle
Like I explained earlier, the Patriots sometimes make the picks that make you go, "Wow!" But this pick actually makes sense. Weddle is a great football player and fits the Patriots mold and style of player. He will get to play just because of what he brings to the table. He's versatile, athletic, a fearless player, and can play CB and S. He's can either start alongside Harrison in the Patriots backfield, or replace Harrison when he retires. By drafting Revis and Weddle the Patriots add youth and athleticism to an aging group. The Patriots could strengthen their backfield and defense just through their 1st two picks. Samuel, Revis, Harrison, and Weddle could become a great backfield.
#29 Baltimore Ravens- OG Justin Blalock
The Ravens pick Blalock who can either play OG or OT. He adds youth to an old Oline, and could play a lot for the Ravens. Blalock may not be great at anything, but he's good at everything. He's a safe pick, and could become starting OG for the Ravens for the next 10 years.
#30 San Diego Chargers- WR Dwayne Bowe
The Chargers are estatic that Bowe slips to them at 30. Bowe is the most physical reciever in the draft who many consider a top 20 prospect. He loves to block, which can mean more long runs for LT. His size a physicality is perfect for the NFL game. Even though many Chargers fans think Vincent Jackson will be good Bowe feels a need and he gives the Chargers a threat at the WR position.
#31 Chicago Bears- TE Greg Olson
Greg Olson is next on the Miami Hurricanes Great TE's in the NFL list. He's a freak athlete, and can do many things. He has great hands and blocks well. The best and most complete TE in the draft. Although the Bears have Desmond Clark, he doesn't bring to the table what Olson does. After running a 4.4, Olson could possibly become the Jeremy Shockey. That would help out Rex Grossman a lot.
#32 Indianapolis Colts- LB Jon Beason
The Superbowl Champs still have a problem. They don't have the best defense, but their defense does step when it needs to. But after losing Cato June, their group became considerably weaker. Getting a LB on the first day is a must, and Beason is the BPA and feels a huge need for the Colts. Many say he is next in line to become another great Miami Hurricane defender. He may not have the speed of June, but he does have good speed, and he is a better run stopper and tackler than June. He'll come in and start for the Colts.
The first pick of the draft sums up how this whole draft will be. Like me I am sure Oakland is going back and forth on this pick. Right now JaMarcus Russell has the momentum.
