Look, I'm sick of the spammers, and im sure all of you are too.
And if you think about it there is really no way to stop them. They are going to join. And for all we know, these spammers are bots, computers, or just guys going around completely random popular forums and posting this crap.
why not have all users under 25 posts unable to access all forums exept a new users forum? that way they have to at least spend some time to get to their targets. Then when the guys get to 25, the forums unlock. That way all the spam goes to the new dudes.
Pro's
_______________
-No more spammers
-Site is free of the 1 time post guys that come in to forums, make a post, then never post again
Con's
________________
-Turn off to football intelligent applicants who just want to have a damn conversation
-Might reduce the # of new posters per day

eh, the spam isnt all that bad here. It doesnt bother me to be honest. If it is a pain for the mods, then this could be an idea, but as a regular user i dont think its a big deal.

I completely agree.

And that definitely wouldn't change anything for the mods/admins. The mods have been doing an excellent job with spam, as always, we are looking into new ways to stop them.
IF YOU DON'T POST IN SPAM THREADS, THEY WILL DIE. Your Posts get deleted anyways.

A better way would be not to let people start threads till they get to 25 or so posts. But people sometimes register toask a draft question, so that wouldn't really work either.

What, don't you like dog on girl action? Whats wrong with you? beastiality porn is my bag baby. These spammers give you links to what you really want, and you know it.

The mods have done a good job policing. I tend to not look at threads unless they're started by known posters or if there are more than 5 responses. If you stick with this, you should be okay. Or, if there's spam, just report it to the mods and move on. It's not that much of a crisis that it affects my enjoyment of the site.

Then spammers would find ways to post in existing threads, no? Or are bots not be able to do that?

They actually aren't bots, they are real people (usually from different countries,) paid to copy and paste this kind of crap.

Yeah, they would just post 25 times in that forum, and then come spam here. It's all the same.

Spam didnt bother me either until you have to deal with it like I do. It seems easy enough to move it etc but it gets old quick. I think thats a good idea to do something like this. They do it at another forum im on, You have to have 30 posts to access all of the forums.

Yeah I dont understand why people post in them. Its like every spam thread has the same 3-4 posters who post in them. Are people trying to make it known that they seen the spam before a mod got to it or what.

The current system works great. The new board setup allows people to report spam, and the mods clear it out and ban IP addresses incredibly quickly. I am fine with the current setup, and I praise the mods and admins for the job they're doing.

It's usually me, and I'm holding out for the one day when one of them actually reply to whatever the hell I said to them.
One day...

Im opposed to this idea. Alot of posters join the board after lurking for a month or so, then they start contributing. I did this. I didn't join immediately, rather joining in on the convos after lurking for a month. I think you could be potentially losing out on some board members if you take away the forum from the mass public.

You are making this more complicated than it already is. Just don't click the threads that say PILLS!!!!!

Yeah, I was the same.
Imagine a NFLDC without BBD and me? Disastrous!
...wait, who am I kidding? There wouldn't even be a forum left to be a disaster. We're holding this damn place together by the threads.

I did the same as you guys. And that's two team leaders and a guy who should be one soon. So obvy we're important!
I like when spammers post jokes with their spam though. They get original. I also usually post in their threads, just to E-yell at them, mostly.
Spammers really don't bother me. We get about 5 spams a day and the threads show up for around 5 minutes untill it gets moved. It's pretty obvious to tell when the thread is spam. Just don't click on it and it won't effect you.

I joined right away, but I never poster for like the first month. I read a lot through the forums, but didn't reply.

You might even find something that intrigues you in the spam threads.
there are several ways to get these guys to stop posting spam, but the suggestion was completely ignored as far as i can tell. essentially, most of the spam is posted in order to push a page up the google ranks. so as has been said, you're making it worse if you're one of the idiots who posts in those threads because you're creating several new links to that post and getting the spammers closer to their goal. realistically, if the title of the thread is "****** ******* ******* *********" and you don't recognize the poster, don't bloody click on it. that seems to be the only suggestion i can make to stop this that anyone will actually listen to.
and just in case, adding rel="nofollow" to any and all links posted should cut the spam basically in half, as it would no longer be worth the spammer's time.

I joined in april but didnt really post until June, and I am a Mod go figure. That may be the quickest turn around ever.

I think a post quota would be the best decision. You cannot start a thread, until you reach number of posts. This cuts down on spam, and idiotic threads, at the same time.

But a lot of new users come in because "These guys look cool and I have a question" They ask, they stay, and they become productive. If they knew they couldn't ask their question right off, they may just screw it and never come back.
Scott had the thing to pay $1 to join and to give the money to charity to cut down on this. We ultimately all shot it down because we may lose the new users who could be excellent. That could do the same thing.

My idea:
When you first register, you have to "introduce yourself" in a thread specifically for new users, possibly on its own board. Once you have that 1 post, you are free to do whatever you want.
