In what can only be described as a banner day for the Pac-12 Conference, commissioner Larry Scott continued taking bold steps to heighten the national status of the conference with two announcements Wednesday in Phoenix.

The first, that the Pac-12 brought longtime sports TV progamming competitors ESPN and FOX together for a broadcasting rights deal that extends and expands the conference's partnerships with two giants of the industry. The second, that a new media company, Pac-12 Media Enterprises, will be comprised of a Pac-12 TV network, the Pac-12 Digital Network and Pac-12 Properties.

In other words, more outlets and ways to see a ton of Pac-12 games (including Olympic sports) and other conference-related programming. While Scott didn't confirm the reported 12-year, $2.7 billion deal with ESPN and FOX to carry the best football and basketball games of those networks' choice, he was only too happy to trumpet the soon-to-be exposure/saturation of the Pac-12 nationwide.http://arizona.sbnation.com/arizona-wildcats/2011/5/4/2153504/pac-12-lands-espn-and-fox-announces-creation-of-pac-12-network

I played against him in high school, was a big time match up between my high school and him.

Hes got a big time arm, but he isnt the smartest kid in the world. Gets flustered really easily. He has everything you look for in a big QB prospect, the size, the arm, all of that....but his footwork scares me. Reminds me a lot of Mallett (not as great of arm), and prolly doesnt have the character problems Mallett has.

fenikz
05-06-2011, 04:27 PM
He doesn't have Mallett's arm but his is a much much better athlete and has shown ability to move around in the pocket and scramble. Sun Devils were 2-0 under him, scoring 44 PPG, including winning the Duel in the Desert at Tucson.

I would imagine if he had started all year the Sun Devils likely win a lot of their close games

I am surprised that those teams would rather be associated with the PAC 12 than the sec or the big10, but I'd they're open to it, so am I.

On another note, sc, cal, and Oregon looked sloppy yesterday. This is not going to be a good year for the PAC12. Did anyone from the PAC12 look ok yesterday?

niel89
09-04-2011, 04:08 PM
It would be nuts to add those teams to the Pac 12. Texas and Oklahoma are top programs and the other two are not bad at all. It would really make the conference easy #2 and could compete with the SEC in terms of quality.

Stanford also looked sloppy as hell. The defense put the offense if good positions to score, but Stanford's run game just wasn't there at all. They just didn't run it with authority like the have the past 2 years. Stanford still can't stop the pass for the life of them either. Luck was good but didn't have to do much.

hawkeye123
09-04-2011, 04:20 PM
Ya yesterday was not a good day at all for the Pac 12.

Oregon State lost to a Div II team, UCLA and Colorado lost to teams they should have beaten, USC got shut down in the 2nd half and almost lost, Oregon got shut down offensively, and Arizona and Washington struggled with the teams they should have crushed. Washington State and Arizona State looked best...

Also, why doesn't the Pac-12 consider Boise State?

Yeah, cal looked pretty good on d, our new qb has the jets, but his arm is wild like I have not seen during the Tedford era. Run game was below average. Lots of penalties. Fledman has an article on sportsline how weak the PAC looks, but that Cal won in impressive fashion. Clearly, he did not actually watch the cal game.

The pac12 looks wide open right now.

Also, why doesn't the Pac-12 consider Boise State?

because the Pac-12 isn't only a football conference, Boise would need to become much better academically & then get some sort of respectable sports program outside of football which just won't happen.

I'd almost be shocked at this point if Texas doesn't go independent, but OU & OSU fit perfectly maybe Texas Tech would still go and then someone like Nevada, Fresno St or SDSU

My initial impression would be that Texas is actually the best fit of the four. I am guessing that they are the strongest of the four academically, plus have a pretty diverse student body.

from the Pac-12's side most definitely but they could just make far more money as a independent instead of evenly splitting cash with 15 other teamsThe Longhorn network is $300M for 20 years, or $15M per year. In the Pac 12, teams are now expected to receive over $20M+/year. If the Pac12 were to add Oklahoma, Ok. St., Texas, and Texas Tech, I would think the per team $ number is going to be even higher. Not sure how Texas going independent helps them financially. If USC was unable to negotiate a separate deal, I don't see how Texas will be able to do so.

I would be just as happy to only add Oklahoma & Ok. State as they seem to be on board with the idea.

Utah & Colorado really hit the jackpot coming into the Pac12.

If Barkley stays next year I think they are a legitimate contender for a NC. That offense would awful tough to stop and the defense that is already making huge strides gets a year older.

So UCLA is going hard after Chris Petersen. Is he even going to be that good outside of Boise? I doubt his recruiting will be that good too.

Peterson doesn't get the top flashy recruits. He recruits stud football players that are underrated. He already does a nice job of recruiting Southern Cal, he'll have no problem geting talent at UCLA.

Does Robert Woods remind anyone else of Pierre Garcon? (styles of play)

By the way, the Mike Leach hire scares me. I can't stand that guy, but I watched his team pick apart an Aaron Rodgers led Cal team in 2004 at the Holiday Bowl. Plus, we know that with the crappy talent he had at TT, he was still competing with the powerhouses. He puts Wash St. on the map immediately. The North division is no joke.

Well every Pac-12 team finally has their HC

New coaches are:
Washington State - Mike Leach
UCLA - Jim Mora Jr
Arizona State - Todd Graham
Arizona - Rich Rodriquez

Not a bad set of hires...

Even more offense in an already offensive conference.

I'm gonna be sad next year when Stanford loses everyone and were back to hopefully being average.

Yeah, those are some good coaches for currently suck or always have been sucky programs. Overall, I'm impressed.

I think if RichRod learned his lesson about defense at Michigan, he has a chance to be very successful.

Leach & Rich Rodriquez are solid hires, but I'm not sold on Jim Mora Jr. or Graham. UCLA should have just admitted they were wrong to fire Karl Dorrell and hired him back. With a bigger budget now, Dorrell could have attracted even better assistant coaches than he had(Jon Embree, Tom Cable, Eric Bieniemy, DeWayne Walker, etc). I never realized how cheap UCLA was in terms of compensation to their coaches.
