Simple enough will a 16 ever beat a 1 in the NCAA tourney?

It'll probably happen eventually.

Yes, I think it would be a good chance if Memphis is a #1 seed.
I guess it could happen, but that chances of that are slim to none.

"Ever" is a very long time frame. That's why I have to say yes, because flukes are bound to happen.

It would be tough. Any small conference team that would have a shot at beating a 1 seed probably would never be given the 16th seed.

I think we will see it in our lifetime(people around 18-30).. the tournament hasn't been its 64 team form very long.

if you get a number one seed that lives by the three and has a cold night and they play a 16 that lives by the three and gets hot its possible

That's a big if.
Look, no team gets to be a number one seed by fraud. They earn it throughout the season and never slip up. These big teams are too dominat for the smaller schools.

Has to happen some time. The law of averages says so.
One day, someone will have a bad game, but it is nearly impossible.

If Duke loses their first game in the ACC tourney, and they still get a 1 seed, I could see them lose, and I'm even a Duke fan.

remember that movie they made about that one country's hockey team that was all college players and were just there to show up for their country not win, and they played this team of full grown men, who had been proffesional players for years, in what could be the most dominant hockey country ever, and then after that the kids won, and defeated that other country that i can't think of, damn.....what was the name of that movie? seems like it would fit here.

one problem. The kids on USA were actually pretty good. Name one guy on Iona who is good.
I think it will eventually. Holy Cross gave Kansas a really good run for their money a few years ago, they were actually winning with less than 10 to go in the 2nd half
Honestly I don't think it is going to happen. Teams who get in and put at #16 just arent good enough to beat a #1. A lot of time the #16's are teams in smaller conferences who were actually mediocre in their small conference but made a run to win the tourney.
Only way I see this happening is in a Kenyon Martin like situation, where a team loses their star right before the tourney but retains a #1 spot.

I think the key player on the 1 seed would have to suffer some kind of an injury.

Not nearly as good as the kids on the #1 seed.

Yeah, it will happen. It will be a bubble team from a larger conference one day. One time it will be like a Syracuse this year or something, and the committee gets cute and puts them as a 16 seed. They get hot, have good enough coaching and win it.

I don't think the committee will ever select a team from a major conference for a 16 seed. It wouldn't be fair to 1 seeds who played well all year to give them a tough first round game.

Okay smokealot, Find a player who has been as good as a Emeka Okafor/Michael Joradan/Patrick Ewing/Chris Webber on a 16 seed and I will believe that you know anything about sports.

IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. 16 seeds are teams from like the smallest conferences who win there championship and are usually like .500 teams who by fluke won. 1 seed bench players could beat a 16 seed.

it WILL happen. but ill never pick it in my bracket again. I picked the 16, i forgot who it was, to upset St. Joe's when they were 1. boy was that a mistake. funny though cause i still came in 3rd in that pool.

yes because it can happen like last year fairly dickens (16) was down by like two in the half against illinois (1). Then Illonois destroyed the game in the second half. Like if a teams best players are injured and they have a bad record and there players come back before march madness its possible.

it will never happen unles there is a major flaw in the seeding

It will happen, but it will because the team got into a car accident or lost their 2 best players in the conference tourney or something

it could happen if the number 1 seed team almost has their best player go blind 4 days before they play the 16 seed.
