View Full Version : 2011 SWDC Mock Draft Competition

04-27-2011, 08:50 PM
I contacted Caddy last week asking whether or not he'd be doing the mock draft contest this year, and he said he wouldn't, so I decided to score the mock drafts myself. I'm going to be copying his post from last year and making some slight revisions, so make sure to read the rules carefully before entering. I’m sure that most of you know how these contests work and have participated in the past so hopefully there aren’t too many concerns about the process. If you have any questions just post them in the thread. It is pretty self-explanatory so hopefully there isn’t too many problems. I will be posting my own entry in the topic just before Carolina goes on the clock. The highest point total wins the contest, and will receive a custom title from Shane P. Hallam!

2011 Mock Draft Competition Rules

The competition will consist of a full two round mock draft.
You are to submit only ONE mock draft to me by the due date.
You are free to submit your entry at any time before the Carolina Panthers are on the clock. If the mock is not submitted by the due date, it will be disregarded.
You may not copy the mock of anybody else, including Scott Wright’s. If I feel that you have plagiarized the work of somebody else, you will be excluded from this and future competitions. There are NO exceptions.
If you do not follow the rules that have been provided, I will not accept your mock.
You must follow the Official NFL Draft Order or your mock will not be accepted. Sorry, but if you misplace a team in the draft order, your mock will not count.
You MAY NOT incorporate your own trades into this contest. Only official trades will allow you to change the draft order of your mock.
Your mock will be graded on the points system previously created and outlined below.
Please do not ask me what point total you got prior to me letting you know. If you hound me about it, I’ll disregard your mock from the competition. The process is a long one so give me some time.
Your mock is to be EMAILED to me, not PMed, AIMed or IRCed. My email address will be provided at the bottom of the post. After receiving your mock I will reply with a confirmation message. Allow 24-48 hours for this message.

Guidelines

You must include your username in the upper left corner of the email.
You must clearly display Round 1 and 2 so that it is easier for me to grade.
You must number your picks 1-64. 1-32 will not cut it. Nor will 1A, 2A etc.
You must type out the player's full name. NO abbreviations (ex. Watt for J.J. Watt.) If a player goes by Joe or Chris, you do not have to write Joseph or Christopher.
You must include the player's school and position. Below I have included a key for positional abbreviations which can be used. You may not abbreviate the names of schools. tOSU will not count for Ohio State, and UM will not count for Michigan. Don’t worry about writing University or College, just the school name is fine.
For trades that have happened, please put the new team that is picking, and put the original team that it came from.

Here is an example of an acceptable mock draft:

RavenOfProphecy

April 27, 2011

Round 1

1. St. Louis Rams - QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
2. Detroit Lions - DT Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - DT Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma
4. Washington Redskins - OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma
5. Kansas City Chiefs - FS Eric Berry, Tennessee

Round 2

33. St. Louis Rams - OT Rodger Saffold, Indiana
34. Minnesota Vikings (from Detroit) - CB Chris Cook, Virginia

END OF MOCK

Key for Positions:

QB = Quarterback
RB = Running Back
FB = Fullback
WR = Wide Receiver
TE = Tight End
OT = Offensive Tackle
OG = Offensive Guard
C = Center

DE = Defensive End
DT = Defensive Tackle
LB = Linebacker
CB = Cornerback
S = Safety

K = Place Kicker
P = Punter

Point System: (According to pick numbers)

1-10: 5 points
11-20: 10 points
21-31: 15 points

32-43: 20 points
44-54: 25 points
55-63: 30 points

You will be assigned the number of points that corresponds to the draft slot you correctly predicted.

Example:

1. St. Louis selects Sam Bradford --->You will receive 5 points because it falls between picks 1-10.

20. Houston selects Kareem Jackson ---> You will receive 10 points because it falls between picks 11-20.

Other ways to get points for picks:

1) You get the player to the right team, but at the wrong draft position. Say you have Devin McCourty going to the Patriots, and the Patriots trade down from pick #22. And Devin McCourty ends up going to New England at pick #27. You get the points because you had Gresham to the Patriots in your original mock, even though you didn’t get the pick number correct. You receive the amount of points of the player's actual draft slot, not your predicted slot (ex. if you predicted someone would be selected at #10 and they are picked at #32 instead, you receive the amount of points from the #32 pick.)

2) You get the player at the right pick number, but for the wrong team (ex. you have Demaryius Thomas going #22 to New England, but he goes #22 to Denver.) Because you correctly predicted the player's draft position, you get the points, even though it is with the wrong team. You receive the point value for where the pick falls, which is between 21-31 (15 points.)

The Bonus System

If you get all the picks correct in any of the point zones you will receive 50 bonus points. So if you correctly predict picks #1-10, 50 points will be added to your score. Picks #32-43, you get 50 points, etc.

Will there be a prize given out this year like in year's past, such as the title given to me when I won in 09? And if so, what will it be?

I don't have the authority to say - I sent Shane a PM, so the ball is in his court at this point.

If you did not follow the rules listed in the original post, your mock draft has been disqualified from the contest. If you don't have time to look through the original post, I don't have time to read your submission. That said, I have a good amount of eligible submissions so far.

Just a note - if you predict a prospect to go to a team in the first or second round, and that team chooses him in the third round or later, that pick will not be counted. After the second round ends, teams will not be able to earn points for third round predictions.

thebow305

I have 70 points for the first round I think. I should have 85 though! What happens with that Baltimore/KC situation? I had Jon Baldwin going at 27 to Atlanta who traded with Cleveland, who traded with KC, so if in fact Baltimore did make their pick at 26 like they should have instead of letting the clock run out, the 27th pick would have been Jon Baldwin like I had predicted, regardless of team, (ala my selection of Ryan Kerrigan at 16). That's a technicality so I think I should def get points for that.

So what do you think ROP?

Sorry, the pick number wasn't correct, and the team wasn't either. There were a few people who got points for Baldwin going #26. It's unfortunate, but you'll have some opportunities to get points later on!

Ugh, I don't think I should be penalized for that, just for some faulty circumstances with a trade lose out on all those points? Those people should still get their points for 26, but I feel like I should get something for that, even if it's not the full 15.

Matthew Jones
04-29-2011, 10:48 AM
Jon Baldwin was the #26 overall pick to the Kansas City Chiefs. You didn't have Baldwin going #26, or to the Chiefs. It sucks, but it wasn't a correct pick.

10 Points - Ryan Kerrigan

15 Points - Phil Taylor, Cameron Jordan, Jimmy Smith, Derek Sherrod - 60 Points
